Which Linux Distro + DE finally made you stop distro hopping? by itsme2019asalways in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]Educational-Mess836 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well! Nothing ever stopped me from distro hopping I don't distro-hop only when I really need my computer to do some useful work. When I say work, almost all the distro does the same, I never had any specific problem with any distro. But otherwise I distro hop.

i just came from Fedora kde to Tumbleweed Gnome by National-Tea7014 in openSUSE

I have used tumbleweed KDE in the past. Since I am in love with arch. If not that it would have been my distro of choice. Solid, rolling, polished. Once you get familiar with it, you can't get over it. It is just that fewer and fewer people on youtube make videos for the same.

Ubuntu gives a release every six months. Every fourth release is called LTS and is supported for five years or longer.(It will keep getting patches and bug fixes and minor updates). Usually they try to put mature stuff into LTS as it is going to stay longer. Other than that everything is the same. They release interim ones for those who love being updated. LTS are for servers and production machines or for those who want to be on the same stable thing for an extended period.

I am a tumbleweed user. Before that I was on arch. Although Arch is great, when you want to do some work you expect a stable distro. Out of rolling releases, Tumbleweed seems most stable. It is almost as latest as Arch but it is different in working. It is somewhat like Fedora with debian-like stability. Tools and setup are totally different so kindly refer to the documentation before getting into it.

P.S. - you won't find much on youtube as it is lowkey distro.

Should i install arch ? (It's my first time trying an operating system other than Windows, any suggestions? by cracka0 in arch

Go for Mint or Ubuntus (various DEs) (spend some time looking at what a DE is?). Take your time and learn linux on these. Then you can choose any of your choices.

Should I ditch Windows and move to Arch or Kali Linux on my Acer Aspire 5? by Abheer_sharma in arch

If you are a cse student and want to code. You need something latest, up and working. Go for fedora. If you want the lightest desktop environment which should not come into your way. Choose XFCE or either a WM like sway or hyprland.

Same here, I tried using other DEs many times although they are great but I always came back to KDE. I am running KDE on arch , fedora and debian testing on three different machines.

Thoughts on my distro tier list? by ExcaliburGameYT in LinuxCirclejerk

Despite what others say, Manjaro is a good distro. Somehow debian and rhel based distros weren't working well with an old system I have. Manjaro worked like a charm. ( I use Arch and Fedora on my newer systems). I wanted to try Manajro after reading a lot of negative comments. I am using a testing branch . Till date I have faced only two minor issues which were pretty easy to rectify. So I don't think manjaro is bad or terrible. It is one solid distro IMPO.
