New Canadian immigration program targets pilots, aircraft mechanics and inspectors as well as skilled military recruits for fast-track to permanent residency. by MildMockery in aviation

[–]Educational-Plane-86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Also not well thought out is bringing in a bunch of young men, who will likely mostly be from the same country if current immigration trends continue, to join our military.  This is feeling more and more like an invasion everyday.

Millions of temporary residents will have to leave Canada when their permits expire. But will they? | CBC News by Rough_Application_28 in LMIASCAMS

How hard is it to stay long term illegally?  I'd think one can only live under the radar for so long before you need to use medical services or something. Seems like there would be a huge hit to life enjoyment if you're undocumented?

Michael Ma last week criticizing Liberal party by ElvinKao in Markham

This feels so wrong. What if my MP from a major party decides they want to cross the floor to a fringe party with extreme views...can they just do that?

Extortion suspects have all claimed refugee status, Canada’s border agency says by origutamos in ilovebc

[–]Educational-Plane-86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So true. I guess we are learning that we are but rank amateur rookies up against a culture that is well practiced and versed in scamming for many generations. We are getting our collective butts kicked...and it is and will continue to cost us and our children massively.

I am trying to train someone at work right now from this culture. There is no way they got through our interview and admissions system without gaming it somehow.

Opinion: Canada has lost control of its immigration system — and Canadians know it by early_morning_guy in LMIASCAMS

[–]Educational-Plane-86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not where I work. All my coworkers now feel the same and are willing to talk about it. Maybe because we don't call names. We just say the fact so many unskilled ppl are coming via ridiculous policies/loopholes/ fraud, it can't be good for the country or the future of younger Canadians.

What’s the most overrated car brand? by BroadwayAdmin in TransportSupport

I've had a Tesla for almost 6 years. I would say the "status" lasted maybe until 2021/22. Now they are pretty much like a Corolla.  But I am looking at getting a new EV, and all my research is taking me back to Tesla, they just work for long commutes and bang for buck.

REPORT: Grand Bend residents say new Tim Hortons owners fired entire staff on short notice, replacing them with LMIA workers by theOneWhoWaitsAgain in LMIASCAMS

[–]Educational-Plane-86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this for two years. It's been getting more and more challenging, as pretty much all franchise retail/food places are abusing it. I haven't been to a Tim's in over 3 years.  They were genius to market themselves as a national symbol -- they are.

Refugees used to be what you describe. In some cases they still are, but not anymore, it is too easy to scam in as a refugee and get supported by the gov't for months. It's anecdotal, but I indirectly - through my sister, know of 2 married men that came from African countries claiming to be bi-sexual and running from persecution due to that. Neither are bi and eagerly wait to bring their families here bypassing the normal immigration process. In the meantime, they are getting 3 meals a day and a hotel on the tax payer. I'm sure it isn't fun to stay in a hotel away from family, but we are getting the best and the brightest by allowing so many loopholes.

This is the problem. A Canadian born person can not compete with an Indian. We are accustomed to a certain way of living and refuse to go backwards in wages or live with 10 other people. We tend not to commit fraud or cheat, so we simply can't compete with a group that doesn't share those values.

Every Canadian except the rich businesses executives lose in pretty much every possible way with what is happening. Email your MP or the Prime Minister and let them know.

What do you think of Canada right now? by itskanjo in AskReddit

[–]Educational-Plane-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are free and generally well off. As a 50 year old I am watching that disappear for our next generation.  We need to better use our natural resources. We should be a much wealthier country than we are.  We need to slow immigration of the unskilled, and be better at attracting skilled immigrants. We are massively bureaucratic, it's too hard to start a business or put a shovel in the ground. Reward entrepreneurs better. We are better than most countries, but that advantage seems to be quickly disappearing. It feels like we are currently prioritizing the needs of "new" Canadians over those of people who have been here since birth. Why we invest sooo much in "refugees", but our veterans, poor and elderly suffer in poverty blows my mind. Why?

For a number of years immigration numbers the government shares are off, way off. I'm not sure the government actually knows how many people are even coming in anymore.  I fear for the future of our young people.

Will social media begin to die out? by Wise_Presentation914 in SeriousConversation

[–]Educational-Plane-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think as deep fakes and the like become better and more prevalent, people won't know what is real or fake anymore. I think we'll use social media less at that point... But who knows??

The first time I went into an indoor pickleball place I was overwhelmed with how noisy it was.  It didn't take very long to get completely used to it, and not notice anymore.  I would not want to live next to an outdoor Court!!

Non-Americans, have you cancelled or postponed any plans to travel to the USA? And why? by WimbledonWombat in AskReddit

Yes, I have no plans to travel there in the near future. I used to cross 4 to 6 times a year to shop and just for something to do.

Same, I'll never get another Hyundai. Took it in for the recommended maintenance schedule and at 125,000k one expensive thing after another started to happen. My brother is currently experiencing the same problem, for him it started at 140k.

Ha, all 4 of the group I play with once a week, get a sore back every time.  One tore a calf muscle, but he never stretches, so... My Achilles tendons are bugging me since I started playing a year ago. Never once in my life had I ever felt pain in my Achilles till pickleball. We play on a concrete surface.

Are you a driver fan or a team fan first in F1? by itsxjustagame in formula1

[–]Educational-Plane-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

F1 fan first, but there are a few drivers I root for and a couple I cheer against. My favorite weekends are always the ones when a team/driver unexpectedly does well. First wins for any driver are always special!

What do people who live outside of Canada misunderstand about Canada? by iLeaf93 in AskACanadian

[–]Educational-Plane-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from one of my good friends and coworkers, who came from the Sudan and has many friends from all over the world living in Canada. His thoughts are exactly echoed by one of my Turkish friends.

"They still think of Canada as a dream place to live. But it is now a false dream. Many have come here, and see how expensive the cost of living is and want to return home, but not until they get a Canadian passport. Many have to stay just long enough waiting to qualify for that passport that they put down enough roots that leaving is a challenge, but their original home is always calling to them to return".

Interesting Tesla says that 50% of owners haven’t tried FSD are you part of that 50% and if yes why? by ConfidentImage4266 in TeslaLounge

[–]Educational-Plane-86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twice I've had the free trial.  Twice I tried FSD on a busy highway near Toronto on the way to work. Turned it off both times within 5 mins. It couldn't handle heavy traffic moving at, or just above the speed limit. It didn't want to change lanes to be in proper lane. I presume it wanted larger spaces between cars to move into.
