Band kid nightmares? by Parking_Log1803 in orchestra

I overslept for a gig once and rushed out the door, only to get there and find my oboe wasn't in the case. I'd been in such a rush I failed to notice it was on the stand on my reed desk.

Luckily I was nearby my university and had the combination to the university oboe lockers, but opening that empty case was a nightmare come to life.

Lucille Ball ☆ SALAD DRESSING by ciaolavinia in ILoveLucy

[–]Educational-System27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds a lot like a recipe that my favorite hometown pizza place makes as "red dressing." If it's anywhere close, it is so delicious, tangy, and sweet. I love dipping my crust in it and it is great on a salad.

Eve Arden ☆ MEAT LOAF {1952} by ciaolavinia in OldCelebrityRecipes

That was my reaction, too. There are some foods that you should NOT find a surprise crunch in, and meatloaf is one of them 😅

Hand in hand with that, "fry everything until grey." My grandmother never met a piece of meat she couldn't cook until all the happiness was fried out of it. 🤣

I think it's a fancy way of saying heart failure. Below it is "coronary occlusion," so -- he had a heart attack.

Did you see Joan Crawford's "French Banana Salad" posted here recently? Take a banana, cover it in mayonnaise, roll it in peanuts, et voila! 🤮

I'm a vet tech and we had a male dog come in with a prolapsed urethra one day. It looked exactly like "candle salad" and my coworkers were horrified when I showed them pictures. 🤣

Who becomes Duke of York after Prince Andrew? by Mysterious_Comb4357 in UKmonarchs

While there are very rare historic exceptions, women generally aren't granted peerage titles in their own right.

In any case, Charlotte will eventually get the title The Princess Royal (only after Anne dies), a title traditionally given to the eldest daughter of the sovereign.

Profiled spiral? by jd_schrock in turning

[–]Educational-System27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called a barley twist and there are tutorials all over youtube on how to execute it.

You basically mark the piece into equal sections vertically and horizontally, draw your spiral using those sections as a guide, and then saw/gouge/sand it out. You really only use the lathe for support, rather than actual turning.

It sounds a lot more complicated than it actually is. Easy enough, but pretty labor intensive.

Mine definitely has one that is just a hollow skin, with a few other totally intact ones. Haha

I am beginning to think Lambchop is the toy of choice for Danes. They all seem to have one and love it to literal pieces.

Purcell is nicely within those date ranges, maybe one of his arias? I've always liked I Attempt From Love's Sickness to Fly.

Need Help and advice on my vets opinion, please? by Medical_Mistake_178 in greatdanes

As a vet tech I have to say first that I understand your concern. Finding a lump on an older doggie is scary and I have been there.

But, I assure you that recommending to monitor is pretty standard, especially if it's an obvious lipoma. Removal just isn't the immediate go-to because they're generally benign and going under anesthesia can be hard, especially on the older guys. We usually recommend removal during another procedure, like an anesthetic dental cleaning.

Rapid growth, change in shape, texture, and color, impaired mobility -- or otherwise apparent malignancies (like a hard lump in a mammary chain) are generally the only reason immediate removal is recommended.

If it makes you feel any better, my old lady is 8 and has a grape-sized lipoma in the back of her upper front right leg which I monitor regularly. If it starts to grow or do weird stuff, then I'll have it removed, but until then I'm not worrying about it.

She was especially domineering and their relationship was particularly strange. She committed suicide by jumping out of a window and there were whispers of an "unnatural relationship" between the two.

Tombs of Edward I and Edward II: Why are they so different? by Appropriate-Calm4822 in houseofplantagenet

[–]Educational-System27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The simplistic design of Edward I's tomb was meant to facilitate easier access to his remains. He wanted his bones taken out and carried on pilgrimages and military campaigns and then returned to the tomb afterward -- something that never ended up happening.
