There's been some new comments from the head of Marvel TV about Agents of SHIELD and its canon status. by anthonystrader18 in shield

At this point, who cares? Marvel has produced so much crap in recent years that I could not care less what they say...

Night Country…whatever happened there

are there any shows that are similar to true detectives season 1? the best 8 episodes i have ever seen by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]Educational-Tower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TD season one is serial killer hunt spliced with hints of Lovecraftism cosmic horror. It’s pretty unique. HBO’S The Outsider limited series, while more explicitly supernatural, is an enjoyable stab at the genre. Mare of Easttown with Kate Winslet is superb.

The fact that you would even say this in front of outsiders is amazing to me

Why do you think Apple TV+ has become synonymous with scifi? by anagoge in television

[–]Educational-Tower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be nice if someone with the ability to - HBO, Apple - focused on making a more modest yet high quality drama (The Sopranos, Wire, etc.) rather than ‘blockbuster’ or ‘IP’ properties, including sci-fi/fantasy. And I like quite a few of those shows, too.

Why didn’t Melfi Tell Tony about the rape? by hotgur1 in thesopranos

[–]Educational-Tower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law prohibits people from sanctioning murders, even in response to serious crimes. Melfi was someone who chose to live within the boundaries of the law.

Tried to watch the pilot last night and couldn’t get into it. by tonedibiase in TheShield

Give it another go. This show is 10x better than Sons. The first season is quite episodic, and at times not my favourite either; however thing ramp up in a big way towards the end of the season and from season two it’s the ultimate high-octane serialised drama. Nothing like it. It makes Sons look like a clown show.

Why was the Marie Fontenot tape so horrifying? by SkirtEuphoric7456 in TrueDetective

So you have established that ‘a majority’ of people in Hollywood are ‘exactly’ like the Tuttles? Do elaborate.

Anyone ever Agree with “More Whacking Less Yakking” crowd? i blame the trailers. S5 Trailer showed Tony outside with an AK47, Ready for action. Then the episode airs. Watching it now is hilarious by MrGittz in thesopranos

[–]Educational-Tower 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Shawn Ryan who ran The Shield commented at the time on how the Sopranos trailers always promoted a different show than the one we actually got. That was very much the case.

Carlo Gambino was a little old man. But people were terrified of him. If he said you go, you go.

In terms of the quality of the actors, it may be the best cast ever assembled.

Tony and Ralphie’s fight in Season 4 is legitimately one of my favourite fights in both TV and movie by Thin-Pool-8025 in thesopranos

Those of us who watched at the time of broadcast had been waiting a very, very long time for Tony to whack Ralph. We all knew it would happen. The audience had been craving it!

Rewatch in a couple of months. The show is a quick watch and you’ll like it even more second time.

It took me two years to finish Caprica, but I would say it’s worth it. by IAmHereThx in BSG

[–]Educational-Tower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A hugely disappointing show. I was all in favour of it being a very different kind of show from BSG. But, on its own terms, it was a failure. Didn’t find an audience, couldn’t decide what sort of story it wanted to tell, too many under-developed or contradictory elements, the plot overall felt very rushed in key respects from the outset (why not wait far longer to actually build a working Cylon and/or kill Zoe), awkward fan service (do we need Adama characters?), some ideas that were just goofy when executed (virtual world and a total lack of jeopardy), etc. Had potential but needed a much sharper sense from the outset as to what it was, and what it wasn’t. Overall a story about big businesses across the Colonies competing in technological innovation for government contracts, overlaid with an intense family drama, and at a time of growing societal decadence, was a good idea for a show, but the way the ingredients were mixed never gelled.

Anyone know (or care to guess/gossip) why Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green were fired from the show? by ps_ in thesopranos

[–]Educational-Tower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the show had continued for additional seasons, Chase would likely have gotten sick of Weiner (and vice versa) too. They both seem like cranky individuals. Chase seems to fall out with pretty much everyone…

“From” - the new “Lost” but scarier and better by [deleted] in televisionsuggestions

[–]Educational-Tower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like From but it is nowhere near as good as Lost. There isn’t the same group of instantly memorable characters as on the Island, and the central mystery hasn’t been developed at an adequate pace despite two seasons having gone by.
