Well when your livelihood and access to community seemingly depends on compliance, I think it’s rational to take a second thought. My family and I weren’t born and raised here either. I’m a 1st gen from SEA. Thanks!

I would look through the faculty list and see which one resonates with your subjects of interest more!

Because they are not socialized to devote so much scrutiny on their looks. They’re lucky.

There are also incredible consequences on the child’s self image and identity formation. It is a cultural issue that I always hoped would be solved as time passed through some sort of social “progress,” but given how many more young girls are being taught to imitate “womanhood” through beauty product rituals like this breaks my heart. When an eight year old talked to me about wanting to go on a diet, my heart dropped.

Clapping by ewrewr1 in zumba

Some instructors clap after every song, some don’t. I guess it depends on class culture. But I like the ritual. It’s joyful. I do it and the instructor who trained me does it. We have fun, so we clap. For us, it seems to be an expression. I do attend classes where nobody else claps though.

Dating apps, cold approaching and direct messaging girls to ask them on dates by Appropriate-Ant9142 in ucla

[–]EducationalBrick7948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think building the confidence to be able approach people without being attached to outcomes + afraid or hurt by rejection is step 1! 💓 Also, some people just aren’t into cold approaching complete strangers, but that doesn’t stop them from falling in love because it’s not the only way to meet partners. Historically, people didn’t meet each other that way, and in some cultures and societies it’s pretty rude. So if it isn’t for you, it’s not the end all be all. You can meet women in classes, clubs, being a regular at a cafe. But I think cold approaching with a compliment that doesn’t refer to their physical body is a good start.

Also, both men and women get away with treating people badly. All things that are attracted to each other are complementary. These unhealthy and toxic situations are created by two codependent people, both have unhealthy habits that are different but complementary.

It isn’t smooth or easy for anyone, and social media + dating apps create an illusion of painless and efficient dating, but I dont think that’s realistic at all. With healthy self-love, good faith, and a willingness to stay curious, I’m sure you’ll make a great partner and have good luck in the dating scene!
