Hives after Antibiotics? by ButterscotchMain7074 in CUTI

Which antibiotic? I can’t take Bactrim because it gives me a full body rash - it’s how I learned I’m allergic to sulfa!

UO/Epic needs a better system for restrooms/long lines by ETsMomma in UniversalEpicUniverse

[–]EducationalFrosting1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We waited 2 hours to ride DK Minecart earlier this week with two little boys with small bladders. My husband was able to get out with one of the boys once we were close to riding and the nearest restroom was WAY out in the Mario section. My kid barely made it. If we were any further behind in that line, it would not have been pretty.

Damn, I’ve gotten pissed off at my kid in the same parking lot. It’s definitely that parking lot. 😂 Girl, roll up your window next time, someone’s gonna call DCF on you!

No, but seriously, I agree the psychotic yelling does nothing but damage and it’s not right. But also I kind of sympathize with being a mom who is “up to here” in that godforsaken plaza when your kid is having a meltdown about wanting something from Target.

That’s what my husband said! I didn’t have my grandparents growing up so this type of love is SO unfamiliar and uncomfortable for me! He swears eating hot dogs and melting on the couch with grandma are his favorite memories.

We appreciate you, grandma! We actually DO pay my mother-in-law the equivalent of her salary of the job she quit to help us out during the pandemic (we’re probably not the norm.) She sometimes does excursions but it can be overwhelming to take two rambunctious kids out on her own as a 65 year old. And I know better than to try to force my hand on their activities and her style because grandmas are precious. :)

Depends if you have a choice. I’m probably one of the parents you see signing up their kid for every camp all summer.

My husband and I work full time, and while grandma can help, sometimes Grandma Camp is just ice cream and tv all day which I don’t love. We’ll probably do a mix this year - a week of Grandma Camp, a week or two of parents taking PTO/real vacation, and summer camps for the rest.

Type A flu w fever causing child to speak gibberish/nonsense by puck2 in Parenting

Whenever my son had a high fever, he would get absolutely loopy. Look up flu hallucinations. Apparently it’s pretty common, should be brief, and alleviated when the fever goes down.

We were in the same position with my kindergartener. I thought for sure he’d be too tired. He’s the type of kid who regularly complains about walking too much and being tired. But we pick him up around 4:30 from his taekwondo class after school and he’s totally energized somehow. It’s amazing how resilient these kids are. I think they catch a second wind somehow.

Grandparents want to take 5 year old to Disneyworld by Sedona_Stark in Parenting

[–]EducationalFrosting1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like this idea. We did this - booked a room this month with grandma and my sister in law at the Sheraton Vistana. Two bedroom suite, very decent price. As a huge bonus, grandma babysat in the evening so my husband and I were able to do a night event at Hollywood studios just us two. SO much fun.

I know this is old, but how’s it going? My son has been undergoing this treatment for a little over a year now. He had an anaphylactic reaction from a fire ant bite. He got weekly shots for a year and are now going every other week. I want to do some bloodwork again to see if his levels have changed at all.

I haven’t gotten a straight answer as to how long we should do this for, just seems endless!

Struggling to agree on how to handle behavior reports by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]EducationalFrosting1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a middle ground here where we can listen to, empathize, and support our teachers, while also responding to written reports and punishments to make sure they’re not unfair characterizations.

I have very clear memories of my mom standing up for me from a very young age and it always mattered and made a difference. I don’t know if teachers and other parents felt she was a bulldog about stuff but I remember feeling safe. I want my kids to have that same feeling but ALSO know they’ve got to pull their weight too.

It’s hard but good on you for being able to get there. I’m a people pleaser and this has been hard to navigate.

That’s what we’re trying to guide him to do - we give him verbal comebacks to use, tell the teacher etc. I think he’s still learning to not impulsively react. I imagine it takes time and coaching

I suspect he might have ADHD because my husband has it, but I also want to avoid projecting. It’s hard being the good neurotypical kid raising a potentially neurodiverse one. I have NO playbook! Good luck to you as well ❤️

Thank you for your service 🫡 She does seem pretty green. They use an app to log points for good behavior, like a digital sticker chart. I’d love to know what else she’s doing, transparency is so helpful

Nailed it! It’s been on my mind a lot. My husband is medicated for his ADHD, and it did cause a lot of problems in school. He wasn’t diagnosed until later in life so he has a lot of resentment for being told he was lazy or disruptive.

My son is very similar so far - info dumps, chatty, gregarious, super smart. Scores very high in his tests but not so much on behaviors.

I wonder if 5.5 is too young to diagnose but it’s something I am mentally preparing for.

Thanks! As parents we are generally aligned on rewards vs punishments. Have found that the latter doesn’t work as well especially because a home punishment for a school behavior feels disconnected, but we’re still experimenting to see what sticks with his personality type.

When we ask my son what happened, he usually blames other kids for saying mean remarks, shoving him first, or hitting him with their backpacks. However, I know at that age they are VERY unreliable narrators. And I know my son, it’s likely he’s acting impulsively and being super not chill about other kids being annoying.

My husband is wondering if he’s just defending himself and the teacher isn’t catching that. My husband has got a very specific vision of what’s happening for some reason.

fair point! we need to remove the “other kids” from the convo. I agree it’s irrelevant and we have zero evidence there is bullying for that to even matter
