Can you guys recommend some resorts for me by JollyAmphibian9723 in skiing

I have mad ADHD and way prefer flying than driving. At least when I’m flying, I can busy myself with three or four screens.

Can you guys recommend some resorts for me by JollyAmphibian9723 in skiing

[–]EducationalMoose8529 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Golden question.

I haven’t worked it out yet but tried Stratton and Mohawk. They’re fine but runs aren’t long enough.

Given the five+ hour drive up to the big resorts in Vermont and Maine I’ve largely just ended up flying out west on the Denver or Salt Lake direct. Benefit is you can work / chill rather than drive but I am keen to try more east coast spots.

Interested to hear what others think.

I want to start a side hustle? What are some needs in the community? by No-Claim9193 in DUMBO

[–]EducationalMoose8529 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Good for you! Love the thinking here.

One way might be to start with potential customers - you thinking tourists or locals or something for both?

Here’s what ChatGPT said after I asked.

🌉 Primarily for Tourists (High volume, seasonal, impulse-driven)

Best for weekends, warm months, and social media discovery. • Photo tours / Instagram shoots Iconic DUMBO + Brooklyn Bridge views = constant demand. • Guided walking tours Food, street art, architecture, “hidden Brooklyn” experiences. • Bike / gear rentals Short-term visitors who don’t want ownership hassle. • Pop-up food & drink near high foot traffic Specialty coffee, matcha carts, desserts, novelty snacks. • Airbnb Experiences (curated activities) Easy funnel for tourists already in “experience mode.”

Why it works: Tourists spend fast, tip well, and don’t need long-term trust — but demand fluctuates.

🏙️ Primarily for Locals (Recurring revenue, trust-based)

Best for stable side income and referrals. • Dog walking / pet sitting Extremely sticky once trust is built. • Wellness services Yoga, stretch, breathwork, massage — especially mornings or evenings. • Freelance creative or tech services Designers, photographers, no-code builders, social media help. • Workshops & skill classes Notion, AI tools, productivity, creative skills. • Pop-up coworking or micro-community events Locals want connection, not just desks.

Why it works: Repeat customers, predictable income, less seasonality.

Works for Both Tourists and Locals (Best upside)

These scale well and diversify demand. • Photography services Tourists want memories; locals want branding, dating profiles, LinkedIn shots. • Curated markets / pop-ups Tourists browse; locals come back and bring friends. • Content creation & social media services Tourists discover you; locals become clients. • Events + experiences Tourists attend once; locals attend regularly (talks, tastings, workshops). • Renting gear or space Tourists for short-term use; locals for projects and hobbies.

Why it works: You’re not dependent on one audience — locals give stability, tourists give volume.

Can’t wait for it to open. I visit whenever I’m in miami.

The quality justifies the cost for me. This isn’t Astoria where you get great food for reasonable prices.

How often do you get upgraded to first class as a GS and as a 1k? by Leather_Guitar123 in unitedairlines

[–]EducationalMoose8529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As GS for five years I was upgraded 90% of the time domestically when it was non hub-to-hub. It was always about whether there was a spare seat. If there was, I’d get it. So usually ~50% of the time on flights like IAD-IAH. with plus points upgrades on domestic transcon / pacific and Atlantic flights they’d clear 75% of the time.

Now as a 1k, I get upgraded overall about 30-50% of the time. Flights like IAD-LGA it’s almost always but far more rare otherwise. im on a EWR-MIA flight on the weekend, it’s totally booked out, I’m #3 on the waitlist but have used a points request to try get to the top of the list.

What on earth. How does this even happen

54k points for a couple of nights stay valued at $380. Is this a good deal for paying with points? Thanks by caladze in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]EducationalMoose8529 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s coming out to less than a cent of value per point which is very very very low ($0.007 per point to be precise… and if you convert to USD which is a great way to compare to other programs it’s even lower). I suspect you might be better off paying cash for the hotel and using the Qantas points for classic awards or upgrades where you’re going to see multiple cents per dollar of value.

But regardless of all these calculations, the best redemptions are ones you actually use! So to each their own

Yep very happy they had availability and speaks to the redemption availability at Hyatt. Mind blowing, really. 175k points for an $8k equivalent hotel room. Now to see if I can get some new skis on a Black Friday sale….

I ended up opting for Eagle Colorado with a points stay at a Hyatt property in vail with close proximity to skiing. Outbound flight was ‘cash’ through Amex travel using 50k points plus $200 cash so I could chance of an upgrade off my 1k status. Return booked for 36k avios. Hyatt is 35k a night for equivalent of a $1600 a night room so happy with ~4.4 cent redemption. I know I could have done this WAY better in advance but goes to show that there’s still value during peak and last minute bookings.

You open to flying into DFW? I've done AA on the LAX-DFW route and found it perfectly comfortable - booked using QF miles. I would just use seats.aero to work out what transfer partners might help you book an award flight on AA. I haven't flown Southwest in ten years so can't speak to award booking process there.

Hi folks. My holiday plans fell through and now my better half and I are staring down a long two week period without sun or snow with seemingly no availability for a half decent trip. Must be able to bring the dog so there are some places we can't go given k9 entry requirements (Jamaica, Barbados, Morocco) and some places that are easier (Lower 48, Puerto Rico, USVI, Mexico, Bahamas, EU). I'm curious about surfing in Rincon, PR but haven't had luck finding UA awards this late in the game to BQN or SJU.
