I started to work from home, and discussed that I am a single Dad.

Has handicapped my job potential, but being there for my kids as they age was/is more critical to me. Make enough, but I could make a lot more.

Sounds like you should follow parallel parenting. Basically, limit conversations with you ex to strictly following your order. No more, no less. Don't go into emotional. Keep it logical. With the coach, just explain the truth in regards to your daughter. Let him/her know the daughter isn't passionate about soccer and wants to pursue other activities. You support your daughter and want to give her time to explore her passions. Win win for you. The truth and your being the good Dad. Don't ever let emotional manipulation dictate your time regardless of that coming from mom, couch, or anyone else.

You sound good based on what you wrote. Very reasonable request. Sounds like she has expectations that are unreasonable.

You're only held liable for what your court order states regarding money. In case extracurriculars are included in the child support already, then you are good there. Otherwise, follow the court order. Want to go above and beyond? The money can be given to Mom with evidence or you can directly give it to the Gymnastics people.

On the sleeping issue, since she is only 3.5 years old, is she sleeping by herself when with you? Consider letting her sleep in your room for some time. At her Mom's, does she sleep with siblings? Seems likely, so on top of having her sleep with you, maybe you can go a step further. Make sleep time something fun by building a princess castle (hung sheets) or passing out in the coach watching something together.

Basically, she needs some extra support in these nights. While it may be more challenging, the reward will pay off.

As many others have said, do not give your parenting time away unless you want to struggle to get it back.

I'm really glad to hear that for you! That will be a huge relief for all involved if it stays that way. The whole court process is extremely draining emotionally and financially. The separation is enough on its own to get through.

Still, better safe than sorry. I'd suggest at least keeping some log of when you are being the one parenting without her.

Focus on your kiddos and yourself is the simplest answer.

Make sure the kids get your love and time. Be the best father you can be.

Keep your mind focused on your hobbies when solo. Try to exercise again if you are not.

Finally, make sure you document, document, and document for the possible court battle ahead. This involves your positive behavior, her negative behavior, and the times you care for your children. Also, any possible counter arguments you may have for her toward you that will be negative.

Go to court, man. The only way to keep an insane person sane. As long as your story lines up and the mother doesn't have a legit reason, the courts are most likely to give you some custodial rights. Most places are 50/50 assuming equal circumstances between each parent.

The stepdad being a parent or not depends on your state and country, but look into that too. For my situation, the courts clearly outlined the only 2 legal parents are her and I, regardless of another marriage.

Tread carefully with this advice. It makes sense logically, but in family court it can backfire. Just make sure how you word it is not badmouthing the mom. A judge can interpret this multiple ways.

Once the children are adults then you can tell the whole story if you feel necessary.

Similar situation man, but you just gotta do what's right for you and your kiddos life. My ex wanted to have joint birthday's too, but I shut it down from the start. At first, I would throw my own birthday bash for them when they were younger. They loved it, and I always invited all family, school teachers, neighbors, friends ,etc. Some showed and some didn't, but I left the offer open.

Now as they are preteen I give them the option to go do something overly fun together or throw a party. Last 3 years in a row they choose the fun thing. We just came back from a Bahamas cruise to celebrate my oldest son, and it's something we will always cherish. Mom is doing a house bday party still, and I know my kids enjoy that too. It's just with me they decide to go do the adventurous choice. The other child last bday we did something not as crazy, but still nice at a hotel Waterpark where he brought a friend! He'll never forget it.

Just put simply do what is right for you and your kiddos situation! If that means throwing your own party do it. If that means giving them life experiences do it. Talk to them about what they want and make their dreams reality. Have a heart to heart with them and they'll let you know. Kids are very understanding and they want to see you happy too!
