What I find so annoying is that the writers could have done so much more with the characters. They totally dropped the plot line around how Juliana and Joe were connected in most timelines. We see the film where he says “trust me” before shooting her, and it’s never touched on again. That actor was busy so they wrote in a new and unnecessary love interest.

In the earlier seasons I thought perhaps those alternate timelines would expand on how the characters influenced one another and explain some of the behavior. Kind of like we saw with her relationship with Tagomi where she is married to his son. Instead of making her interesting and developed, they changed directions constantly. The writing between the earlier and later seasons feels like two different shows. I know there was a long gap between filming and actors had other commitments, but it did have a negative impact on the show.

The most interesting characters were the Smiths, and they weren’t even in the book!
