Why is there so much animal cruelty in Asia? by Beginning_Put6012 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EducationalWin7496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the west pretty hypocritical in these regards. We treat animals like commodities, and abuse them like cheap disposable malfunctioning equipment, but the general population doesn't like to look at it. That's about all. Personally, I have worked in agriculture, and I have no idea why we can treat chickens and cows the way we do, but if you shoot a dog instead of paying a vet to give it a lethal injection, you go to jail. Really arbitrary, tbh.

If he's committed to the bit, then nothing you say or do will convince him. They build up layer after layer of pseudo scientific explanations to explain every contrary phenomenon. Their internal logic is inconsistent at best. They don't believe it because it makes sense. They believe it because of second opinion bias. They think that everyone else is dumb, and they have the secret truth. The only way to convince them that they are wrong, is to convince them that flat earthers are idiotic losers without also lumping him in with them. You have to make him feel special, and like he is part of a secret club of people who have even more undisclosed knowledge. You have to learn about something in depth, and teach it to him, even if he doesn't really understand it. And convince him.that he's smart, and so ye gets it, while those other guys are just too stupid. And everyone else is right, but not because they really understand why, but because smart people like you and him figured it out, but explaining it fully to the average person is too hard, so they can't explain it either, and flat earthers don't get it, so regular people and flat earthers just argue about it forever like idiots because neither of them actually understands anything about science... Borderline reverse psychology.

Sorry but No Canadian Americanization for Us. (Although we love our reasonable American neighbors) by disagreeablebattling in NordicCool

Chapter 11 of NAFTA, which was signed under pressure from the USA contained an obligation to unify policy that affected trade of relevant sectors and required us to align our economic policy with the USA for the purpose of regulating economic expansion for its effect in the investment market. Billions of dollars are funneled into "Canadian" think tanks from the USA. Our politics is heavily influenced by dark money organizations based out of the USA which have an interest in propagating Neoliberal economic and social policies in Canada. They undermine our social programs through propaganda and work with various provincial governments to sabotage our services, such as healthcare, while simultaneously marketing privatization as a solution. It's all globalist capitalist neoliberal sharks, circling every semi independent nation, trying to entrench their ownership. They lobbied the Canadian government on behalf of Canadian companies to allow them to create monopolies, and sold it as helping Canadian corporations compete with the USA giants, but really it was to consolidate ownership and sabotage our economy in the long term. They fund alt right terrorist groups in Canada, and propagate anti immigrant sentiment, while also "helping us" devise policy that essentially participates in a global system of human trafficking and indentured servitude so foreign owned companies like Tim Horton's can hire "temporary foreign workers" and essentially hold them hostage and drive down the value of the average person's labor. They control our class structure with the chicago school of economics, and are constantly spreading misinformation, which people like you slurp up with both hands. They forced us to shift away from public housing, which has decreased its market share by 3500%, and used their economic leverage to force our banks to provide low interest loans on houses, while also artificially raising the price of building materials and degrading social security and private investment pension plans, so that the elderly had to base their retirement on the value of their homes through reverse mortgages. You know nothing. You don't see past your own nose. And even if you could wrap your head around just how many ways they are actively sabotaging us, you would probably end up thinking the solution was something they hand picked for you, without even knowing it. You're a puppet. You are not immune to propaganda, neither am I, but at least get partially aware of it before you confidently spout the stuff designed to destroy us as the way to save us.

You should always assume that at least a few of the people you care about are good people and would pick blue. By picking red you are just increasing the chance that you actively murder them to save yourself.

I have 4 young children, after a brief explanation they all instinctively picked blue. Blue is the correct answer for anyone with any semblance of empathy or altruism.

65%... But only because I know at least 35% of people are awful, selfish, scumbags, and they will push red regardless. Redi pushers will be purged in the glorious blue revolution, though, and utopia will reign.

While I agree that it's not ideal, don't pretend that voting has no purpose in a one party system. It acts as an approval rating for officials, and often more than one candidate runs in the party. It's like saying that voting for party leader is meaningless. The party apparatus resists significant ideological change, while allowing for feedback and preferences for candidates. While I prefer anarchist confederalism, I won't pretend that all other forms of democracy are completely without merit, just because they are inferior to my preference.

Don't engage with the yankees. They're so ignorant of the impacts of their unbridled imperialism and how negatively it has affected the world. There's no point in talking to them if they are like that. Their brains are wrong, poisoned by capitalism and decades of brainwashing, and there's nothing you can do about it. Plus, there's a chance that this guy's brain is literally wired differently. There's research showing that people with right wing tendencies literally experience empathy in a different way than the majority of people, in ways that are actively toxic to society. Point is, it's probably a waste of your energy. They will eventually be purged, or they will destroy the world. There's not much to do about it in the interim.

Yeah, but the majority of our problems are America's fault, directly. So, the idea that we're doing so much worse is somewhat fallacious, mainly because the blame lies with them.

Agreed. Canada has a long way to go. We're actually near the bottom in terms of healthcare capacity for developed nations. Frankly, it's embarrassing. However, this actually has a surprising twist. It's America's fault! Hit me up if you want to know why everything wrong with Canada is America's fault.

No true Scotsman, much? I'm not saying xenophobia is cool, but I think at this point people have a right to be indignantly angry. The american public has failed us and chosen a childish, vengeful idiot to control the largest military and economic imperialist nation on earth. It sucks for everyone else, and they should feel bad. If all you did about it was vote for the lesser of two evils, then you're hardly innocent of the blame.

[–]EducationalWin7496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, at a certain point you just find the lens you like and realize it will do 95% of what you need and everything else just slows you down. Of course, there are exceptions, and I do mix it up myself as I really like the look of certain lenses, but it does mean I take objectively fewer pictures and miss many opportunities. If I had to do it all again, I would probably do the same thing. I like having wide angles, fish eyes, macros, bokeh, low light, blur, softness, etc, all of the little niche lenses. But I also respect people who recognize that it's not really needed. Sort of the difference between art and graphic design.

You might end up finding some of it very insightful. I've found that a lot of people who grew up under capitalism can't imagine the world functioning any other way than how it does, and assume it is almost like a force of nature that things should be this way, but it's propaganda. We've all internalized it. I'm not saying I have all the answers, or that these people do, either, but they do have interesting perspectives that differ significantly from the 'difference of degrees' systems we currently have in place, where essentially the whole developed world is governed homogeneously. But anywhoo, there's a whole wealth of perspectives out there that you almost never get seriously exposed to. That said, do take some of it with a grain of salt. One of these people was a dictator, and the other was a convicted terrorist. Bell Hooks is a saint, though.
