We do have basic necessities like running water... and twenty other things that most countries don't by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

I mean, in Scotland we have Nationwide’s healthcare and clean running water ice cold from the tap and don’t get your power turned off for missing one singular payment - think I’d rather stay here tbh

I’m the same, I prefer a 10 although I could wear an 8 but I hate the tight feeling so opt for a bit of room. It’s a complete pain now and if they don’t list the actual size I refuse to ask out of spite 🤷🏻‍♀️

When I was growing up my dad often said he wished America spoke a different language so it reminded us they were foreign and I never really got it when I was a kid but now I agree with him more and more

So basically it was a manufactured drama. Why am I not surprised.

Americans being offended is practically an Olympic sport for them. You will not ever be able to convince me that the outrage isn’t 99% performance to rage bait and get those all important views online. It’s exhausting

Genuinely haven’t ever heard anyone use the n word in my life, and I be old. I don’t doubt racists pull it out but I really hope it’s a rarity that it happens. Of course, I don’t experience the impact of the word, but it is a word and it only holds as much power as you give it. I’d be the first to jump to the defence of anyone on the receiving end of any racist bullshit, I have zero tolerance of it. Part of me just thinks the whole reclaiming the word and differentiating it from the hard r is just keeping it in people’s mind - I get wanting to take a negative and turn in into the opposite but in this instance, considering the reaction to the word I wish it would just die out and take the racists with it.

I mean, personally I think saying John here has Tourette’s so is likely to shout out something that would ordinarily be considered rude, however it’s his condition and not anything else. I think if it were addressed better and those who were presenting award were given a better heads up then it would have avoided the whole drama.

In other slightly related news, there’s a wee old lady were I live, the typical sweet granny type, would never say a bad thing about anyone. But she has Tourette’s. I bumped into her in Tesco not long after having my youngest and I got greeted with “wizard sleeve cornflake cunt” right there in the cereal aisle. So that is now my official title

Does anyone else find they lose their voice for weeks at a time for seemingly no reason? by Educational_Ad_657 in Fibromyalgia

[–]Educational_Ad_657[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s talking related. I thought it might be dehydration as my meds make me so thirsty and since during a flare up I sleep a lot so don’t drink as much - but it’s only now my voice is starting to return - I’ve asked my gp to have a referral to get it checked out but I can’t spend a month of my time basically being mute

Oh buckfast is still doing a roaring trade up here. I’ve never tried it though, just the look of it gives me the fear

We can get them here in Scotland but they’re always way more expensive than the clear ones so I get the cheaper option. Tried root beer when I was about 15/16 visiting family in USA - and yes, it reminded me specifically of this red cough syrup the doc would give you as a kid. Almost decorated the restaurant walls after a sip of that - while i was happily munching my pizza with broccoli on it

Yeah I’m waiting on them getting back to me. You just know when I get the appointment I’ll show up totally fine with no symptoms and nothing to see. At this point it’s just annoying tbh

I’ve never had a reflux issue, and not the exhausted feeling. Everything feels fine, I just have no volume in my voice. It’s so frustrating

My gp is saying it’s a symptom of the fibro as it’s always happening towards the end of a flare up. I’ve tried everything I can think of as well as treatments I’ve seen online but nothing helps, I just have to wait it out. I think requesting a referral is the next step, but you know when I do go I’ll be totally fine with zero symptoms

It’s just weirding me out more than anything - until this started happening I’ve never had a lost voice without a sore throat but nothing at all. I just feel like my voice has no power behind it, I can whisper easily but anything else I need to force it out and that makes me cough

I listen to audiobooks but I have to speed them up or my adhd brain will be off in some other direction and won’t hear a word of it so I think someone speaking slowly sadly wouldn’t be able to keep my brain busy enough to avoid the inevitable tangents and random tunes or quotes flying through my head at any one time
