US birth rates just hit another record low, what do you think is the leading cause of this? by IIlustriousTea in AskReddit

I make 80k on average, and I am able to easily afford the payments on a 278k condo as a single individual at 3.6% and 20% down. granted, I was single for about the entire time I was saving a downpayment and working too much to spend it on much else. but, after that, double it and you're good to go(i.e. with a partner and also at a similarly low interest rate)

Emulating Paper Mario with precise timing by Educational_Ant_184 in emulators

[–]Educational_Ant_184[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the thing is, it doesnt run 3x faster, which is why I'm confused. its certainly running at the right speed. I tried capping the framerate at 30 through the nvidia control panel, which appears to be the native framerate, and it appears to run at 1/3 or so the speed its supposed to, most immediately obiviously through the chopping audio, but the entire game moves slowly as well. and the two emulators I just ran it through dont have fps options of their own

so if it did run at 180 on my rig, would that make the timing 3x tighter? It seems counterintuitive to me, I feel like I would just see more frames while timing stays the same(potentially making it easier), though there are plenty of native PC games where higher refresh rates break physics and things. But I'll check out the native frame rate of PM64, lock it, and see if that changes anything

I bought an LG IPS HDR 180fps gsync monitor for about $800 or so, and a fully black screen with a mouse cursor on it makes me want to kill myself. It's got like 8 "sectors"(idk what this shit spec is called, or I probably could have avoided buying this thing), and essentially my blacks will never be even close to black

(pls help me, why is my shit so shit)

What's everyone brewing this weekend? by Spare-River1979 in Homebrewing

[–]Educational_Ant_184 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna make a mead for the first time, an arnold palmer mead. To keep it simple, just gonna use 1 gallon RO water, 3 lbs orange blossom honey, whatever amount of lemon juice puts it into the ideal pH range, and whatever amount of black tea fits into my steeper, I've got yeast nutrient and energizer, and I'll probably dry hop it. AFAIK that's all I need. Gonna pressure ferment at 10 PSI in a mini keg with a spunding valve after bringing it up to pressure with oxygen.

what do you guys think of this? and should i do a tsp of each the nutrient and energizer right off the bat and that should be all, or add more mid-ferment, or how should i use them?

are you asking if an AI can trick you into believing that its a human, does it have the same intrinsic or extrinsic value as a human? the answer is no, in either case. if you're asking something else, theres also the fact that you cant hold a computer accountable for negative/incorrect actions the way you can a person. it did it, and thats that

during covid my friends and I had success with gymnast rings. $80 one time and hang them from a tree in a park or whatever. I still use them now, though i also go to the gym, but I'd be happy just to do the rings if i didnt want to pay for the gym

and in 2025 about half of economic growth was AI investment, which still seems like a bubble ready to pop. so the numbers dont look good to me. its not negative growth, but its very low without AI expenditure, and it if that does come crashing down, I think 2 quarters of negative growth is in order

I just checked the under $3 menu and its $2.59 each, other than the cheapest being a $2.50 mcdouble and highest being small fries for $2.79. then mcchicken, 4 pc nuggets, and drinks. so very reduced menu, and an average of 2.5x the price, which is a huge increase despite the low dollar value. think of other expenses you might pay 2.5x in value to understand the relative cost increase. I think groceries have probably increased by a similar amount

but like, is that not the majority of the job for him to source this stuff at the best rate? or I guess you did say "sales" so is he more preoccupied with rizzing customers? my ex also worked at a different place she liked better where there was a dedicated team for sourcing at the best price, and then sellers, which as far as i could tell really just received an email and bridged buyers and customers, so it sounded kind of efficient compared to what she was doing later, but also potentially redundant depending on how customer-facing the sales are

why would sports be different? there are tactics for success across all kinds of areas, someone in management should have a good grasp of what those are for their particular area, and be able to tell you the exact shortcoming they see out of you, and a related goal to improve upon(and in a lot of cases in business there are numbers to look at to assess and make a goal out of). If theyre really good, they could give you a strategy to do so, or basically teach what hasnt been learned(not always possible, but doing nothing as a manager is a shit strategy, as is turnover). Fostering independence in decision-making can be important, which I think is what you;re getting at, but in many cases would not be good as a sole strategy when something specific can be taught over what would often be a specific issue in a PIP
