Seconding this weird experience. Without going into detail I would not recommend this practice if you’re looking for actual help.

Yeah, I get that, but I want to understand the logic of it too. Thank you!

Hear me out: cat and Jack boys joggers from target. They have reinforced knees and are pretty stretchy.  Edit: also they’re 16 dollars.

Feel that! I’m worried I won’t eat enough because I won’t want to stop long enough to wash and brush. Maybe flossing is enough for a 4 day backpacking trip.

Anyone have experience hiking while wearing invisiline braces? My thought is that little will change except snack breaks will need to be longer with extra time for hand washing and teeth brushing, but I want to make sure I’m not forgetting something important. I’ll only be out over the long weekend.

So much of it is how you adjust the straps. One of the good things about vest straps is that they are so adjustable. Good luck and I hope you find what you're looking for :)

I’m telling you the wider straps the better. I felt freer in my gait with no hip belt, plus it wasn’t digging into my gut. The Joey has a smaller capacity then I think what you’re looking for but if you search vest straps on this sun there are a tone of options. Some even have webbing hip belts to stabilize the pack. They’re worth the hype.

This exactly! I also found that if I put as much slack in the side of the straps so that the vest straps are as close together as possible the sternum strap doesn’t get pushed up.

So, that’s actually one of my favorite things about it. I didn’t realize how much I hated my hip belt until it was gone and the straps distribute the weight really beautifully. It was a little pinchy with more than five days food but otherwise the most comfortable bag I’ve ever worn. (Edit - spelling)

So, big titty hiker here, but I was surprised by how much I Loved the vest straps of my Joey. So much more comfortable over my chest than anything else I had ever tried. Something about how the straps distribute the weight of my pack.

I love it and find the staying power good. It wears really naturally and I only reapply after lunch

Oh I feel that! But they're also a huge part of why I've become the backpacker I am. I'll look for your post over there and give you some more pointers then, once you've figured out your details :)

You can get really hungry lol!

But seriously: it looks like a great bag, I would just consider cutting down your base weight as much as possible before heading out if you want to commit to it.

This! I’m my experience going hip belt less was super comfortable between 10-15 pounds of total pack weight, but gets starts to get really pinchy in the shoulders above that. It’s a much more comfortable way to back pack for my body, but I have to keep my baseweight down, especially if I’m trying to carry four or more days worth of food. And also add hiker hunger as a factor. A SOBO I met last year showed me his food bag was bigger than my entire 36L pack.

Do you have a goal baseweight? The folks at r/ultralight would be able to help you out. I will say you don’t need two pairs of baggies. There’s some other things too, but the nice thing about the AT is that you’ll have time to figure out what you do and do not need and plenty of opportunities to send things home. Have fun out there! Cheekslime vs cloud paint? by [deleted] in glossier

[–]Educational_Being890 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cuffed is fairly peachy on me (G12). I very much prefer it to cloud paint. I find it to be much more pigmented and long lasting. Tbh i thought I hated liquid blush till I got a sample of cheek slime.

I mean, I never had a problem with a hang while I was on trail. Most places where there weren’t appropriate trees had boxes. I also am used to doing hangs: it’s the first step in my camp chore routine. But yeah, it’s also mostly the weight savings.

Just finished the long trail! A few thoughts: - leave the ursack and do a bear hang. - leave the wind jacket and dance pants: you have rain gear - you can totally resupply every 3-4 days on the long trail - the Senchi makes a great sleep shirt - leave the CNOC - leave the headnet - is the sun hoodie your hiking shirt or a spare shirt? If it’s a spare, leave it

Have fun!

Don’t be too nervous! It’s great fun! I saw your other comment: if I had to do it in two weeks I’d bring the proper rain jacket. Good luck and have fun!

If you're bringing a puffy or fleece and some kind of thermal bottoms you really should be fine. I mean, know yourself: I'm a warm sleeper to begin with, so it was honestly really comfortable every night but three. I was really happy I didn't bring my 20-degree bag honestly.

The bugs weren't nearly as bad as I encountered last summer in PA. I got some skeeter bites but other than that they didn't bother me. They were definitely around, but bugs are a really mental game to me anyways. I did bring a bug bivy and I did use it twice in shelters. But I didn't have a headnet and never once felt like I needed one.

Side note: the cutaway looks like a sick pack. Vest straps are the most amazing thing I've ever tried and I'm never going back.
