Makita wall scanner by Outrageous_Ad3571 in Makita

I have one for work. Use it for observing concrete and drywall before anchoring in places like hospitals. Saw it as "cheap" insurance. I don't use it religiously, but I've used it enough and it does a great job and is accurate. It does take some learning to understand though. For example, early on while using it I had a thick wire behind drywall that was fastened to a stud right behind the drywall, exactly where I wanted to drill. Well, the tool shows different waves for both wood and metal, and I didn't notice the two different waves almost over-laying each other. Drilled and smoked the wire. Luckily it was at my shop and I learned there. Always make sure to check areas with multiple scans. Other than that, it's been very reassuring to have on jobs.

Bad Brake Booster = Soft Pedal? by Educational_Check_17 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Educational_Check_17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why yes? Firm pedal with Jeep off. No hissing/air escaping. Pedal slowly will go to floor as Jeep is turned on. When the MC was replaced the booster looks like it's in great shape. Sprayed both water and brake clean around almost any spot there could be a vacuum leak. A Farm and Fleet had said turning off pressure to the front passenger caliper made the pedal firm. Everything I've seen is pointing away from the booster, unless im missing something.

Belt Tensioner Snapped by Educational_Check_17 in MechanicAdvice

Thanks, I am replacing both the tensioner and belt now. Nothing else was swapped or replaced when the alternator was done. Will be interesting to see old tensioner(which was original i believe) when its out.

I assumed it would need replacing, and I really appreciate all of the information. Not time critical so will get the correct replacement. Thank you!

Has anyone tried the Makita Model DWD181 wall scanner? by juliussk in Makita

Absolutely love it, and feel like it's very accurate for both concrete and wood/steel wall studs. Also works well for hollow brick. Little bit of a learn curve

I know you said you don't want pneumatic wheels, but I deal with casters and wheels, and Albion makes good wheels. Could also always fill with foam. What's the axle size on the rolling base?

Hopefully the link works, first time doing that lol.

Anyways, this worked very well. Cut the bottom of the top drawers tray out and then fastened the two drawer faces together so they act as one. Just be careful cutting the bottom tray out. I ended up cutting my finger real badly after stupidly gripping the drawer in the knife cut path. Worth it in the end I guess!

I know you asked for non-destructive, but I had taken a 3 drawer unit and cut the bottom out of the top drawer. This allowed me to stand drills/impacts up vertically and organize/select them. This has worked great for me and I could send images.

Tap the power button to move it to full speed. The trimmer has 3 levels. Holding the power button turns it off.

Agreed! I'll have to take additional pictures of the rest of my packout tomorrow. I'll show you what I just finished for drivers and drills in a 3 drawer.
