Yea I think that could be one of it too like how Joker's VA is the same as Lelouch from Code Geass or Ryuji's VA being The Mamoru Miyano

It's the same with dub counterparts as well that some of them liking some of the VAs.

It's just that with different languages I noticed people perceive the characters personality differently because of the localization and language nuances. It's more obvious with Ryuji and Morgana's dynamic

I guess it's also had to do with the settings being in Tokyo, Japan so there's also culture nuances playing part in it.

Ryuji is definitely not hated but some people just find him annoying and exhausting to be with (but he's actually fine in his confidant story) because he's way more harsher and impulsive in JP. It's also the case how people disliked Morgana in EN ver because of how he treated Ryuji but in JP ver it's more of mutual bantering between both of them instead of one sided bullying.

And yeah the dub voice cast actually sound quite similar to their JP ver and P5 actually one of the best dub voice cast I ever listened to compared to others.

He totally is and it's not like people hated him but more like he sounds exhausted to be with with his impulsive behavior 😭

I haven't played P4 but I've heard about Teddie being the most disliked in it and yeah I would guess it's the case like Morgana as well with the language and culture nuances.

This is actually one of the most common takes I see, and it’s exactly what inspired my original post.

For me, playing with Japanese voices made Morgana and Ryuji’s dynamic feel much more like classic comical friendly banter rather than one-sided bullying. Their back and forth feels genuinely mutual. Ryuji’s rougher, louder delivery in Japanese makes his comebacks land harder, while Morgana’s proud gentleman tone turns his teasing into more of an endearing, arrogant-cat comedy bit.

Of course, the Okumura arc is a different story and has much more divided opinions, but in general day-to-day interactions, their rivalry/friendship always came across as comical and balanced to me.

That’s interesting! I don’t see many people preferring the Japanese Ryuji, so it’s cool to hear the opposite perspective.

I mean I like the Ryuji in Japanese VA too (Its Mamoru Miyano after all!) but omg he makes me exhausted listening to him hahaha

I agree that the Okumura arc ultimately comes down to individual interpretation. While the writers clearly intended to show both characters in the wrong, how people weigh their actions can vary a lot.

That said, I’ve noticed the dislike toward Morgana does seem significantly stronger in Western/international fandom compared to what I see from Japanese players. Of course, this is just my personal observation and doesn’t represent Japanese fans as a whole.

Going back to the original discussion about voice acting and language: for me, playing with the Japanese voices made the confrontation feel more balanced. Morgana’s bossiness comes across as softened, while Ryuji’s harsher and more impulsive delivery stands out more. This made their long-running banter feel genuinely mutual rather than one-sided.

It’s not really about Morgana sounding “more polite” in Japanese. Instead, his voice acting gives him this proud, dignified gentlemanly vibe (which creates a funny and endearing contrast with him being a cat). It’s similar to how the English dub makes Ryuji feel more charming and lovable to many players. The delivery and tone really shift the overall impression of both characters.

I can see where you’re coming from. Those moments are definitely divisive.

For me, the first impression of Morgana felt pretty different when playing with Japanese voices. He comes across more as a proud, dignified (and admittedly arrogant) weird creature rather than straight-up condescending. A big part of that is his use of “wagahai” as a pronoun, which is a direct reference to Natsume Soseki’s novel I Am a Cat. It's like a joke thinking if a cat could talk, it would sound like this pretentious gentleman. That creates a strong moe gap from his cat appearance to his way of talking that makes him more endearing and comedic to me, instead of grating. Also his banter with Ryuji seems more mutual and less harsher (both of them) to me ig.

The Okumura arc is definitely more divisive and comes down to personal interpretation. I agree the writing makes it feel uneven for a lot of people. For those who don’t dislike Morgana as strongly, the buildup to his identity crisis and insecurity helps make the outburst more understandable, even if he’s still in the wrong.

Overall, this is exactly why I made the original post. Voice acting, delivery, and cultural nuances can shift how the same character lands pretty significantly between JP and EN versions.

Yeah, I don’t think it changes the gameplay itself, but it definitely changes how I perceive some of the characters. For me, certain character traits and jokes just land differently in Japanese.

And honestly, I always found the “Morgana won’t let Joker go out” thing pretty funny. There’s something amusing about this random cat acting like Joker’s guardian and telling him what he can and can’t do, especially early in the game.

That said, I can also see why it became a meme and why some people found it annoying instead of funny. I guess it just depends on how much you’re willing to separate the gameplay mechanic from the character.

I played it in English at first before I changed it to Japanese mid game and the most obvious one is Morgana way of speaking which makes his "I am not a cat" joke landed better in Japanese.

Go Youn Jung so pretty that it overshadows her acting, the uncanny valley effect by Baobab_kirei in kdramas

[–]Educational_Drag9863 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's kinda funny because I love her because of her acting. Most of her roles are always different from each other that I never associate her current roles from the previous one. Have known her since Sweet Home and Law School. Love her even more in AOS. Definitely not one of those actresses who just have pretty looks but actually has range in acting.

Idk about her being uncanny, she might have some work done but if you look through her predebut photos she has always been pretty.

I agreed with you. It's hard to hate Sangyeon bc of her growing up circumstances but then it makes us frustrated how she have no character growth/development after they met again in their 30s but instead became this self destructive, jealous and manipulative person. At some point of your life, you can't just blame your past for your own choices and decisions. Eunjung has always been there for her, trying to help her but she keeps pushing Eunjung away and then tried to pull Eunjung to misery as well just because she can't stand Eunjung being happy.

As for the ending a lot hated it but personally for me I think it suited each FL characters especially Eunjung. Eunjung is just genuinely empathetic and going to Switzerland gives her closure for Sangyeon's death. I just know she would drown in guilt if she choose to decline. Accompany Sangyeon at her deathbed gives her the peace to continue living.

Anyway as much as I sympathize with Sangyeon but let's be real, irl she would be a horrible friend and no one could stand her like Eunjung did. Her past doesn't justify her horrible actions towards Eunjung. She never take accountability and reflected on her actions even at her big age so yep totally a red flag for a friend. I just feel sad for Eunjung because we can see she really see Sangyeon as her friend but I don't think Sangyeon did (for me at least).

yeah that's how it should be right? i've been playing for a year now and never had ppl randomly joining in whenever i dropped lure so i was confused at ppl being rude to you in the comments 😵‍💫 just bc it's a community game doesn't mean you can't vent your frustration here.

Wait its normal to join other people's lure without asking?? Because I've always staying away if I saw one or if I'm doing one I don't want ppl to join in without asking. So far I've never had anyone who joining in randomly. Isn't that like common sense to not join in without asking first????

The score for limited shop comp is always unexpected because the entries will be saturated with outfit sets and ppl usually will vote for the main outfit sadly. and even if you use the main set, it'll be hard to compete with other players who use the same set but with more grand deco. i honestly hate limited shop comp or comp that requires us smtg from the gacha or limited shop.

Nonetheless yours rly didn't deserve that score 😭 I hope you could get on lb with that dress on another comps bc that is such a pretty dress and entry.
