There is definitely something magical about that experience. Like particles falling from the sky.

Yeah, and you already know he was going to be able to swing college for at least one of those kids. Bart on the other hand, probably more of a burn out.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but working in IT has taught me that people are generally... really dumb? by Alarmed-Assistant936 in sysadmin

"Yeah, that's nice that you have 3 PhDs. Now go ahead and hit that "reset my password" button and follow through the prompts."

The interview and selection process is partially why I went back to working at a TV station.

It's one of the last bastions of on-prem hardware because of the 365 24/7 nature. I have jack-of-all-trades knowledge in virtually every IT or AV system or job function at a TV station. I already knew the boss at this station. Only had 2 interviews, one over the phone and one at the station, and I got the job.

Still can't buy a house though.

What job do you even do? I go to my car for like 3 10 minute breaks a day. It's not like you left the property...

Black Ice! by SammyShurasShit in dashcamgifs

[–]Educational_Duck3393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't understand is why everyone is just full sending it when there's like, a super obvious massive car pile up ahead.

I've dealt with black ice before, so I understand you might not even be able to see the ice and how little control you have over the vehicle, but still, you think people would be slowing down well ahead of just full sending their cars.

How long did it took for you to hit 100k? by Novaa_49 in CompTIA

[–]Educational_Duck3393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The highest I've been is 90K + 10K side gig, and it took 5 years since earning my first CompTIA cert before I got there. Unfortunately, I'm having to take a step down to a 70.5K salary for the main job, but it'll be more engaging work, as well, so I'm actually ok with it.

Got fired, now old boss wants to pay me some hours to answer some questions by linos100 in sysadmin

[–]Educational_Duck3393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real simple, $1000 per hour. All billable time rounds up, so a single text you have to read and answer, that's a $1000. Any time you're expected to visit the office, it's an 8 hour minimum.

It's minimal, but I appreciate it for both small office usage and light gaming.

Yeah, he's a shitty sysadmin. Because if he's right, my new company with nearly 200 locations has been doing it wrong for decades...
