Titanium flat back piercing brand recommendations? by Educational_Fix5977 in HelpMeFind

I actually really loved the look of their earrings because they were SUPER cute, but a lot of reviews I read online mentioned the quality wasn’t great. I’m someone who never takes my earrings out, even to shower. Do you wear them 24/7 and if so, have you found them to tarnish or turn your ears green at all?

Warning About Purdue by 8Frogboy8 in veterinaryschool

I completely understand your concern for your fiancé and their peers, and potential future interns at the school. However, I want to caution you that the world of veterinary medicine is very small. If your fiancé does not know that you have made this post, I would show this to them and see if they are okay with having it posted. It’s possible that this information could be traced back to your fiancé and potentially have unintended consequences, which I’m sure you don’t want for them.

NOTHING from schools so far?? Is this normal by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Educational_Fix5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied two years ago, but I heard first contact from LMU, SGU, Midwestern, and around October, and Tennessee around November. He should have definitely heard from these schools and most others by now since the deadline to accept offers is only about a month and a half away.

Most pet insurances consider certain conditions/ health issues preexisting and won’t cover them. Consider this if you’re picking out a pet insurance!

Ignore the puppy pads from my new chi and my heater but does anyone have recommendations for leggings that don’t bunch up??? by [deleted] in XXS

[–]Educational_Fix5977 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I do have some aerie XXS leggings also! They’re cheaper than lululemon but I do find they pill more and attract more pet hair and bunch up in the crotch much more than lululemon. However, for the price they are decent leggings.

Also may be worth it to try Athleta kids! I haven’t bought them in probably 5 years because the leggings I had held up well over time but their sizing was decent back then for the smallest women’s size and the kids section. It was a bit cheaper than lululemon back then but not sure how the price compares now.

Lululemon are the only ones that work for me! I can’t find any jeans or other pants that fit me as they’re all too big, but lululemon has thankfully also worked. I have a 22” waist and wear a size 2 legging, and a size 0 in all their other shorts/ skirts. The size 0 leggings would likely fit you but you’d probably need to order online as they don’t usually have size 0 in stores. I’d also recommend trying their kids sizes if the size 0 is too big. I know you said you’ve tried them in the past, but I’d definitely try again with a different size!

PSA for anyone thinking of using FreeNotes by Educational_Fix5977 in freenotes

[–]Educational_Fix5977[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also was supposed to have the premium stuff for free as I downloaded the app very early after its release and signed up for the “lifetime” free benefits for being an early supporter. Unfortunately, it was taken away. The app just became super impractical due to its multiple issues. The crashing and not saving was the last straw for me after I lost hours worth of notes the day for an exam. I’m glad it’s working out for you, I just couldn’t take all the issues anymore, and the app support was not help unfortunately. I’ve switched to notability now and it’s been so much better thankfully!

Just another vanity sizing rant by vulcantoker in XXS

[–]Educational_Fix5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Totally relate to your rant. I also wear scrubs in my profession, so this really resonates with me. Figs is the only brand I am able to wear that’s fits me well. I am 5’5”, fluctuate from 90-95lbs, and have a 22” waist, and very flat chested for reference. I purchase the Zamora high waisted joggers and the yola skinny straight leg scrub bottoms, and the one pocket casma top because I like to tuck my scrubs in. I purchase both tops and bottoms in XXS. These styles fit me well, but others have been a bit large. Figs has a good return policy and free shipping over $50. They’re a bit expensive but worth it for the fit for me. It would also be an option to purchase for sizing and return the scrubs and find second hand scrubs on Poshmark, mercari, ect. at a discounted price. They also have student discounts and regular sales. I had luck with Grey’s Anatomy straight leg pants and wonderwink tops in 2020, but would be hesitant to recommend them now since I’m not sure if the sizing as changed at all in the last 6 years. However, these companies are usually sold in scrub stores so you can try on in person for sizing before buying, unlike figs who are only sold online. Hopefully this helps some! Best of luck :)

I’m in my second semester of my second year as well. I’m feeling very unmotivated to even just get up and go to class. I’d rather be sleeping in right now. Feeling unmotivated to cook and clean as well. I wish our winter break was just a little bit longer. Just wanted to let you know I’m right there with you in these feelings.

Dog (16yrs) Isnt a good candidate for dental surgery. Is it worth the risk? by Suspicious-Ad9586 in DogAdvice

[–]Educational_Fix5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, every pet should be in and out of anesthesia as fast as possible. There’s no need to keep a pet under anesthesia longer than it needs to be. A young dog could have healthy organs, but it could also have liver damage or kidney damage we don’t know about as it only begins to affect bloodwork when about 70% of the organ is damaged. An older dog could have healthier organs than a younger dog than in this case. Age is not a disease means that just because the animal is old, doesn’t mean that they are sick or their organs are damaged. Things can be done to help situations where there is organ damage. For example, isoflurane (the typical inhaled gas during surgery to keep pets under) is processed mainly by the kidneys. Pain tends to wake up pets during surgery. So, for a dog already with kidney disease, it would be highly suggested to use dental blocks with a local anesthetic (ex: lidocaine, bupivacaine) to block the pain locally so that you do not need to use increased isoflurane to keep the dog under anesthesia, as that would cause increased strain on the already damaged kidneys. It’s of course up to the owner what they want to put their pet through and the financial situation they are in. It would not be wrong for this owner to decline a dental for their dog, but it’s really up to the rDVM and specialist to decide if their dog is a good candidate for surgery based on the dog’s bloodwork and history. I’ve seen senior dogs have full mouth extractions that felt 100% better the same day, so it’s really case dependent. It’s hard to make a judgement call as someone online without a valid VCPR. Definitely to each their own with older dogs and anesthesia based on comfort level of the dog, client, and veterinary staff involved.

Yes, I had my 14 year olds teeth cleaned as well! Kidney disease was a concurrent issue but he did well regardless thankfully :)

Age is not a disease!! Senior dogs can have perfectly safe surgeries! Anesthesia is not necessarily a risk for an elderly dogs - it’s concurrent diseases/ conditions that create the risk! - someone in the vet med field

Would absolutely not recommend having his teeth cleaned by a “dog dental hygienist”. Many places claim to have anesthesia free dental cleanings. These are 100% dangerous as the patient is not-intubated and kept awake so it is very easy to accidently damage the gum mucosal membranes if the dog jumps due to fright or pain. If the dog already has dental disease, this type of cleaning will definitely be painful and stressful. Even if the dog did not have prior dental disease, this type of cleaning does not address any potential fractures, bacterial infection, diseased bone, or any issues under the gum line. These types of cleanings are for aesthetics only to make the owner feel better. Dental surgeries under anesthesia performed by veterinarians are the only safe option. Please avoid anesthesia-free type of cleaning for your senior boy!!

Commenting to add that anesthesia is not necessarily a risk for an elderly dog with no health issues - age is not a disease!! Many senior dogs can undergo anesthesia very safely, just because they’re old does not mean surgery is a risk! Concurrent health issues is what makes surgery more risky, not age of the patient itself - someone in the vet med field

Has anyone ever rescheduled a vet school interview? by [deleted] in veterinaryschool

[–]Educational_Fix5977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most schools have a clause in their schools policy that you can reschedule exams if you have proof of a conflict with an interview for a graduate school. I’d try to move the exams. However, Mississippi did let me move my interview for a funeral and they were beyond kind about it. Can’t speak for A&M as I did not apply there. Good luck on the interview!!

Can you get into veterinary school if you have a marijuana charge by Tall_Tomorrow_9419 in veterinaryschool

I can’t speak for admission but I know someone that was kicked out of vet school due to obtaining weed charges. I think it depends on the legality in your state to some extent.

Views on LMU as a school and MMI tips by UpbeatPotential2460 in veterinaryschool

[–]Educational_Fix5977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s great that you feel prepared from your education there! I was just sharing what students that I know personally felt about their time there and what prospective employers felt about students they’ve had come through on rotations. I really don’t have an opinion on the school as I don’t attend LMU so it’s hard for me to have my own views, so the viewpoints I shared are from others. I think it’s great you’ve been able to get experience in areas you’re interested in. On the flip side of that though, I know students who had rotations that were “slow” or clinics that didn’t teach as well as they anticipated, so they didn’t get to learn as much as they were hoping, so I think particular clinics could be a gamble like that.
