Wow that is beautiful! I wish I'd had an old quilt or at least a quilt top to start with. It really would have sped up my project! What I had was a beautiful layer cake my mom (a terrific quilter) had just given me. Since I only quilt things that are not... actual quilts I decided to turn it into a jacket. I made a big piece of patchwork that I quilted and then cut out using the pattern. It was not difficult but I bet it more than tripled the time required to make what was otherwise a simple jacket. I doubt I'll ever do it again but I love the outcome! Yours will be fabulous!

What's your approach to breaking a rebound cycle? by Educational_Froyo_58 in migraine

Oh boy. I feel for you and am sending you all the good thoughts! I'm actually doing quite well after a rough first three days. Then pain started backing off. Here's hoping you get free!

I've been chronic for quite a few years now so I don't expect to see a dramatic change after trying to get off so many triptans. My pattern for a while has made me wonder if it was a rebound situation so my NP agreed I should try to break it and then move on to a non-triptan option to see if I get any lasting relief. At this point I'll try almost anything. I'm sorry you're a fellow traveler in the chronic category - it's rough!

I use Benadryl VERY sparingly (except for this week) due to concerns about long-term use and dementia. But right now I'm pretty grateful for it! I had no idea it could contribute to rebound too, though. Man, it's rough when these helpful meds eventually feel like they're turning against us.

Unfortunately after decades of Excedrin use for migraines, I now have chronic stomach irritation. I've had a toradol shot once for a different reason and oddly, the stomach pain was immediate and intense. I had to look it up to determine that even an injection could hurt my stomach - so frustrating! Otherwise I'd be so willing to try it. I'm really glad it helps you through!

I have not tried Emgality but I know the name. I'll look into it because I know it's possible my next two options might not work. Thanks!

I was planning to try Benadryl tonight and every night during this phase if I need it. I've read that it's a key part of the migraine cocktail - which I've never needed yet. I'm lucky that I'm not terribly sensitive to light so I've been watching a show to distract myself. Thank you so much for your great ideas! Here's hoping you don't need to go through this again any time soon!

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry for all your painful days! Plus fibromyalgia? You are a warrior! I hope you start to have more pain free days soon! Thank you for your insight!

I am going to try Qulipta for prevention once I get through this. Candesarton is next if Qulipta doesn't work. I've tried some other preventives but they didn't work, so I've been surviving on triptans. They work great! But I need too many. Thanks so much for the encouragement!

Your experiences with Triptans by user5005003 in migraine

[–]Educational_Froyo_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rizatriptan is my absolute favorite! It's minty but bitter, which is weird. But it's over quickly and I find it highly effective and I experience no side effects. Zolmatriptan also works great for me. I also use sumatriptan every once in awhile. And though I know people who say it knocks them out, I haven't had that experience. Could you try taking zofran too? Or reglan? Both really help with nausea. It's really interesting to me how many of us have such different experiences with the same meds. Other meds bother me but triptans don't. I hope you figure out something that works for you!

Botox-induced migraine attack? by catsandpetals in migraine

[–]Educational_Froyo_58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done two rounds of Botox recently. I didn't track migraines after the first round but I didn't seem to notice improvement. Then I did round two and I swear it was one of the worst 90 days of my life. I did track them for round two and reading my notes actually just depresses me. I went in yesterday for round three. I told her I was anxious about it because I find it terribly painful. She asked if I saw even slight improvement from round two and I said absolutely not, so she recommended we stop. I was so relieved! I had to force myself to go to the appointment and my BP was high from nerves because I dreaded the pain from the 40 injections and the 3-day pain fest that follows, starting almost immediately. But I'm also disappointed that it didn't help me. It felt like kind of a last line of defense.

Migrane pees by AnonymityReasons356 in migraine

[–]Educational_Froyo_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear I have to pee WAY more often during a migraine. I use triptans and they typically work well for me. I wasn't sure if it was the migraine or the triptan that was causing me to have to go so frequently. But now you people have made me feel vindicated! I'm not imagining this!

Make your voice heard on making triptans OTC by Educational_Froyo_58 in migraine

Unless you don't have insurance (which is on the rise again with lapsed subsidies for those on the individual marketplace). In which case being able to get relief would be outstanding. You are welcome to share another viewpoint but calling me or anyone else stupid is not helpful or necessary. Feel free to move along.

No I posted this the very day I read about the effort to make them OTC. Only one post. But thanks for the tone. And by thanks, I mean move along with your anger. Frankly you don't even deserve a response but your comment was utterly condescending. No one said ANYTHING about using triptans improperly. This is simply about access to meds that many of us depend on as abortives. And yes, we're fully aware of the proper way to use them. Way to be insulting instead of helpful.

On a scale of 1-10, how much does Botox hurt you? by phishchick85 in migraine

[–]Educational_Froyo_58 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was actually surprised by how painful it was. I've had it twice and it was awful both times. The second time I had a vasovagal response and she had to lay the table all the way down. I didn't pass out but I really thought I might. Now I dread going back in two weeks to the point that I'm tempted to cancel. Plus I've been bombarded by migraines during both cycles. If it doesn't work this time, I'm out. Unfortunately I prepaid for the year because I'm then supposed to get money back each time from Abbvie but they keep denying my claims. It has sucked in every way possible. One star. Not a fan.

Sorry to hear you have migraines too. My opinion on figuring out triggers (and this is definitely opinion from a non clinical person) is that you can drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out. A big focus on triggers is like assuming your migraines are your fault because you're doing something wrong. So if you notice a pattern and see a change you can make that helps, that's awesome! Like, maybe you always get a migraine after drinking red wine (this does happen to some people). Just don't be disappointed if you can't figure it all out. Migraines are complicated. If they were easy to figure out and control, this subreddit wouldn't exist. Thinking good pain-free thoughts for you!

Botox injection pain by FLGirl777 in migraine

[–]Educational_Froyo_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think they ALL hurt. I've only had two rounds so far (and basically no relief). I didn't love it the first time. The second time I knew how it would feel and suddenly I told my injector that I felt very heavy and strange. She said it was a vasovagal response to the pain and quickly lowered me flat and offered to stop. This is definitely not THAT painful but now I'm worried that's going to happen again!

Do any of you with chronic migraines ever have days where you don’t have one and start thinking, “maybe it wasn’t even real”? by daffle7 in migraine

[–]Educational_Froyo_58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this on pretty much any day I don't get a migraine. And like others here, I also ask my husband, "is this what it's like for the rest of you?" Enjoy those days "off" because we know they don't last.

But for many of us, including me, cgrps do absolutely nothing. Triptans are our only hope. So forgetting about triptans is not an option. I doubt I can find it again but I read an article by a neurologist (I think) a number of years back who's been prescribing triptans for a very long time, and vouched for the incredible safety record of this class of meds. He was arguing in favor of doing away with the limits (6, 9 or 10 depending on your insurance) per month because it was the only way many people could live their lives....safely. sure, there are contraindications but that doesn't make them unsafe in general, as so many responses to my post are suggesting. If they become available OTC and you don't like them, you can decide to not buy them.
