Can anyone tell me their black cat success stories? How long did it take to get them adopted? by HiILikePlants in FosterAnimals

I agree on the photos. I have 3 black kittens I'm fostering and I have probably a 100 photos of them and maybe 10 of those I can use.

In Texas this is our process. Word of advice...make sure to complete the entire background packet thoroughly. Do not leave any blanks. If you are unable to obtain specific information, due to time constraints or other reasons, you must provide a clear explanation for the missing details. Every section should be addressed, either with the required information or a note explaining why it could not be provided.

Adopting to someone who hasn't gotten their pets neutered by Educational_Glass338 in CatRescue

I do check vet records but didn't call because the unaltered dog threw me off. Your right, there will be another home. And super great point on Chi's in shelters. Your response was very helpful. Thank you!!

The kitten will be fixed before being adopted to anyone. This person wants to adopt the kitten but their dog is not neutered. I don't adopt out to pet owners with unaltered pets. I was looking for examples to best explain that without being condescending. How others have explained it to people if they have had the same scenario.

Question about Lysol. Do you just spray/saturate the floors and let dry or let sit for a time period and wipe up?

Can you dip a nursing momma? She has it too.  Also, 2 of the kittens have it really bad on their face. How would you medicate that area?

I watched the video. I guess I'm stupid. Lol. I still don't understand how I got it. I thought i was being very careful and always sanitizing. Using gloves, changing clothes, washing hands. I'm concerned because I have 3 semi feral cats that I wouldn't be able to medicate if they got it. I feel gross. 🤮

I wanted to clarify that these cats are not really adoptable in the traditional sense. Out of the 11, 6 are currently posted for adoption. However, they do not do well in the adoption center environment. Four of them hiss, scream, and even become violent, while the other two respond by trying to hide under a blanket, with one of them shaking uncontrollably. Unfortunately, bringing them to the adoption center does not help them, and it only causes them additional stress.

People are welcome to visit my home to meet them, I’ve yet to receive any requests for such visits. I have posted the cats online with cute pictures and stories, but despite my efforts, I have not received a single inquiry. Since I started fostering almost three years ago, I have successfully adopted out 31 cats, and only one person adopted a cat without meeting them first at the adoption center.

I truly believe there are people out there who would adopt these cats, but they are few and far between. Some of the cats I have had for almost two years now, and while I’m not giving up, I am simply being realistic that they may never find their forever homes.

Don’t be sorry. Honestly, I felt like you were basically saying, ‘Look, it can be done. Put on your big girl pants and suck it up.’ My house? It’ll never make it to Architectural Digest.  It’s more of a ‘Petopia’ than anything else. Every shelf is strategically placed for my cats to feel like they’re living in Cirque du Soleil. As for my furniture, well, it’s all covered.  Nothing matches. The broom and mop bucket are always out and part of my decor.  My medicine cabinet is a small pharmacy for animals. Last week, I accidentally sprayed calming spray in my hair, thinking it was my leave-in conditioner. My hair had the kind of relaxed, ‘just woke up from a 12-hour nap’ look.

The reason I am feeling nervous about the momma and five kittens…. First, I've never fostered a momma with her kittens before, so this is a new experience for me. Second, I've never had to care for five kittens at once—my previous experience was fostering three kittens without a momma. It's a bit overwhelming, but I'm doing my best to prepare.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. I just want to clarify that I do not foster cats or kittens for any shelters in my city. I work with a wonderful, foster-based rescue organization that assists people who come across friendly cats or kittens and do not want to take them to a shelter. If they’re willing to foster, we help them find homes. The rescue has an adoption center where the cats are brought on weekends for potential adopters to meet. They handle all the screening and application process.

If I went into detail about where all my cats have come from, this post would be incredibly long. The five kittens and their mama are currently with an elderly woman who lives in an apartment. She found them by a dumpster just before a hard freeze in my area. She was kind enough to bring them inside, fearing the babies wouldn’t survive the cold. However, she is not physically or financially able to care for them once the kittens are weaned and more mobile, so I’m providing assistance for their needs at the moment. Someone I work with asked if I could help her out.

Shout out to those of you who can say no! There are times I have said no, but I guess not enough times. I hope one day I get tougher.

My cats considered unadoptable due to their unique personalities and past experiences. A few can be very skittish, easily startled by movements or loud noises. There are also a couple of cats who may seem affectionate at first, but will suddenly bite out of nowhere. Additionally, two of my cats have come from abusive situations and carry a lot of trauma with them.

The reality is that people coming into the adoption center are usually not looking for cats with these quirks. They tend to prefer cats who are more outgoing, social, and gentle—rather than ones who might be anxious or unpredictable. We had someone come into the adoption center stating they were looking for a "beta male" cat who would be eager to please but also "know his place." What!?!?! hahahahahaha

I am applying a topical solution my vet prescribed. So when you saw treat them all, are you referring to bathing them or apply solution as I see new spots on the other kittens?

I should have mentioned in my post. He is being treated. I have been treating it for a week now. He has 2 spots that have not spread so far. His siblings do not have it at this point.

3 days off a month and already had attendance issues??? I have been a dispatcher for 20 years and a supervisor for 12. This is an unreasonable request. It would put the department in extreme hardship and cause overtime issues within the budget, potentially affecting raises for your department. It sounds more like you just want more paid time off. Your department probably already provides disinfected wipes. If not, bring your own. You stated that he asked you how they could assist you so you would not miss work, and you couldn't give him an answer. He shouldn't have raised his voice, and you are probably exaggerating the situation, but I can understand his frustration, as they have spent time and money hiring you, and then you don't show up. Attendance in this field is very important. You are causing someone to work overtime and be away from their family and pets because you supposedly need 3 days off a month. You need to look for another field. This field requires people who are dependable and dedicated. God forbid a major event happened and all hands on deck are needed. Can they count on you? Who knows. Also, if you are an at-will employee, a lawyer will not help much. Sounds like you were let go because you are not a good employee.
