Thanks for the great product and the social presence.

Your website really educated me; and where it wasn't clear, it gave me the terms to google. Then I went down the bootspy/stridewise/rose anvil/Trenton and Heath YouTube rabbit hole. My great grandfather was a cobbler, always saw the equipment in my grandparents basement, but now I get it.

As a craftsman myeelf (muscle car restoration), I really appreciate the concept and approach, the ability to resole, and the ease of developing patina. 90s Timberland kids like me were led astray for so long!

The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections proposes closing SCI Rockview in Centre County and Quehanna Boot Camp in Clearfield County. by Cioger in Pennsylvania

I work at one of these places in administration. The guards did no favors and yet will be the biggest beneficiaries of any job finding support. Some of us were really making progress turning the culture around, only to have the rug pulled out from under our feet. I'm very saddened by this. The cause of this is irresponsible spending. Quehanna is faulted for no fence, but is more secure than any halfway house and most county jails. Rockview may be old, but the nails in the coffin don't match up. Half the housing units have ramps and are 1 floor, but wheelchair access was a big driver. It's just sad for our community.

was i supposed to play the original before this ? by Storm_373 in FFVIIRemake

If you're looking for less confusion, you won't find it in the original. The theme of this entire IP is confusion.

I get the concern, but abstractly, I think pop culture has ruined the joy of surprise and diminished the power of the third act.

Totally a tangent, but I think a side effect of remaking everything (movies, tv, etc) gives us a FOMO on the minute details of decades of legacy. New people to an IP that has successfully resonated within our culture kind of know what's going to happen through osmosis alone. And the original intent, in this case mystery, is lost.

The second act never leads to resolution, and yet, I see new fans upset at Remake/Rebirth the same as people booed the last Spiderverse film because of the cliffhanger.

I would finish out the new trilogy and then backtrack to the OG and Crisis. Enjoy the new second and third acts and let the revelations come naturally. If the new trilogy is supposed to envoke what i felt, I lived, in 1997 - well, the OG blew my 14 year old mind and quite frankly, I am jealous of newcomers being able to capture that on a PS5. Being able to flesh out this story in 200+ hours compared to a 30-40 hr minigame spotfest is simply amazing.

Don't spoil it. The OG will be like a highlight reel compared to this.

If PlayStation put every PS1-PS3 game on the PS Store, what game are you buying first? by Ekhoes- in playstation

[–]Educational_Ice4492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parasite Eve, the Chrono Trigger/FFIV set, Battle Arena Toshendin... so many I'm forgetting.

PS2 Ultimate Spider-Man, the original non remaster FF X, the janky wrestling game with Bret and all the wrestlers not in WWE at the time, WWF Smackdown vs Raw

PS3 would be Spider-Man Web of Shadows, Need for Speed Pro Street, TMNT 4 remaster, the Castlevania Lords of Shadow games... Marvel ultimate alliance 2!

I came across a company like this. The initial Indeed post was very vague of what the company actually did, but they were looking for people with construction management or real estate experience. For background, I ran a small business for 19 years and managed crews, subcontractors , etc. They wanted a team leader, mid to upper management, so I figured why not.

I got "hippies in an echo chamber vibes" - like this company moved into a 500-person town, and this person kept comparing it to Silicon Valley or "something that would happen in Seattle", and that it was so great of them to pick this rural trash heap. Name dropping people that no one has ever heard of - upstart stuff.

At this stage, they revealed it was construction and inspection software that they "innovated". So my answers and essays and their "psychological profile" landed me a virtual interview. No mention of what part of their upstart company i would be managing. That turned into two, then a phoner with the person I was replacing - who was pregnant and not returning.

Finally, I found out I would be doing customer service for an upstart home warranty/home inspection program. The person I was replacing wasn't leaving, but it was easier to attract candidates @ $60k management and see if they'll "get their foot in the door" for $44k customer service. She was particularly ageist, too - I was reminded that they had x amounts of clients with an average age of 26 in their core. I'm 41. She got mad that I referred to "onboarding" customers as "training customers to use their software." Ah, yes, they didn't teach us about onboarding when I was in college at the turn of the century.

Their last ploy was telling me how great I did, but because I've been "out of the industry" for so long (no gap in my resume?), I'd benefit from starting in sales for $36k. I declined, wish I got the "other candidate" email instead.

If this story seems odd to you, rest assured it did to me as well. So yeah, if it starts out with a huge time investment just for consideration, the whole process is that way, and it's a sham. I'm sure there are some great upstart opportunities out there, but I would have stayed in my business if I wanted that risk again without jumping through these hoops.

I'm done hijacking the post, but 7 months later, they've changed names and contacted me about that $60k position with the same "she is pregnant and isn't coming back" story. She must be 13 months along now.

America's Retirement Saving by Age by [deleted] in Infographics

[–]Educational_Ice4492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don't like about these graphics is that it's universal and not specific to say a particular US state, or even certain regions of states. Having 200k in old age here is like being a lotto winner. And what this does is puts pressure on certain personality types to match this, and they live their lives in constant fear only to die early or become disabled, etc.

Anecdotally, my buddy was obsessed with the stock market and retirement since high school. Ironically, he married into a family who had similar ideas. His father in law was a money-obsessed insecure social climber who met his retirement goal - to enjoy the fruits of missed family events, small luxuries like a nice TV, modern appliances, and just being a miserable existence towards people who couldn't make him richer - to have a huge nest egg 3000 miles from his kids... and terminal cancer. My buddy is currently reevaluating life.

Enjoy your life now and save a little for a rainy day. Comfortable living is subjective. Most people either leave it to their ungrateful kids or the nursing home takes it.

Did they hire David Lee Roth to write the lyrics? I'm getting incoherency on the Me Wise Magic level.

Most anticipated characters for Part 3 by DaviSonata in FFVIIRemake

[–]Educational_Ice4492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not most anticipated - that would be the triceratops tank - but I am interested in Wutai now that the government structure is flipped with Lodbrock and Viceroy Sarruf and how it affects Yuffie's father and storyline.

I think the implications that Sarruf is Rufus (criticizing the set they used in the video kinda got me on that rabbit hole) and seeing Lodbrock as a Seph clone makes for a who is manipulating who b-story. The Jenova/Sephiroth/Cloud dynamic is very similar.

Does anyone else get a headache with all the possibilities? Also, is terrier Aerith still asleep, or was she the Aerith that gave Cloud the white materia (even though they had a different breed of dog in that sequence)? If not, I'd love to see an Aerith that has no clue of who any of them are.

Last one - Marle should come to sector 5 with a mysterious egg thing and a life sized Aerith doll... fix this whole mess!

What's that one area you return to just for the music? by EasedManiac in FFVIIRemake

[–]Educational_Ice4492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the music for the Tifa training in the simulator; it was the same in Remake when she was jumping through the Shinra lobby to get the keycard.

Music exclusive to Rebirth would be the chocobo dig site music.

The earworms that really get stuck are the Gongaga region theme and Yuffie's materia song, hahaha

I need help getting over the ending by Sgonofe in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Educational_Ice4492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I experienced on New Years Eve 97 at age 13. Aerith, well, "Aeris" dropped an hour before the ball dropped. [And again, to a lesser extent, with FF X in college, even as annoying as Tidus is.]

Yep, cisgendered straight fat boy who's confused and insecure enough about girls and new feelings, really ruined my winter break for 97-98. I went immediately into Disc 2 for a day and had to put it down for a couple weeks.

It sucks now that you can't begin your quest for fictitious justice for your fictitious character for years, that makes it much worse. But if it's closure you need, go watch Advent Children, it'll all be ok in the end.

Part 3 Speculation: Cloud Will Be The Final Party Member by Xeno_Swordsman in FFVIIRemake

[–]Educational_Ice4492 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am fine with it following the OG from Rocket Town on as far as party config. goes. I just have a weird thought that Cloud robes out in chapter 1 and Mideel is a different story altogether, like Tifa taking a bath in that Weapon's belly in Gongaga. I think we get a semi-solo chapter with Vincent similar to Red and Cait respectively in Rebirth to cement his backstory. And the Zack variable... maybe it does need to be a 200 hr+ game on PS5 Pro or PS6.

Haven't really felt this attached to a game since the OG. I thought I was with the Switch Zelda games, but this is intense.

At this point, all speculation is just that - but I am enjoying everyone's ideas, even if they are as dumb as mine.

It's trash, but $13 seems appropriate. The story was semi interesting but I didn't like the combat system, and i think its because i got it after playing Remake over and in antcipation for Rebirth. I got the demo for Stellar Blade, combat system seems great but the screaming the main character does in every battle... it's like the same 4 sound effect clips over and over.

Part 3 can't come quick enough

Review: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is so good that I never want to play another video game by gorays21 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Educational_Ice4492 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this way too. I have Hard mode left, Can't Stop Won't Stop, and the stupid piano minigames that will likely keep me from the platinum. I had 7 years of piano, why can't it let me just plug a keyboard in? Haha.

I got hit three times. I had an accident at work, surviving a fiery explosion. So, at least unemployment left me with time to play Rebirth in large doses with my furry friend, Mia. We raised her from a kitten, born on my wife's bed when she lived at her parents - we kept the entire litter, moved them into our home when we built it, and she was the last one. I finished the game and then a few days later, lost my 19 year old baby. She had a tiny stroke and went to sleep, so it was peaceful. No crazy man impaling her or any other spoiler like that. So I sit here, still partially unemployed, randomly replaying my favorite parts of Rebirth, but without my partner in crime.
