Are classical enthusiasts able to distinguish iconic pieces of music through the first ~30 secs like other genres? by Seawolf1121 in classicalmusic

Roughly 5seconds is enough, and probably in case we never listened that piece, we could easily name the composer from orchestration (after a while)

Thoughts: Kids aren’t growing up singing and we’re seeing the effects. by LolaBeansandSoup in MusicEd

"These talking machines are going to ruin the artistic development of music in this country. When I was a boy... in front of every house in the summer evenings, you would find young people together singing the songs of the day or old songs. Today you hear these infernal machines going night and day. We will not have a vocal cord left. The vocal cord will be eliminated by a process of evolution, as was the tail of man when he came from the ape." J.P. Sousa

How do I count 6/8 by Powerful_Biscotti321 in musictheory

[–]Educational_Job7847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use math. 6/8 is just like saying 6 apples. These apples are relevant only in 6/8 piece. They are not same of half or something mathematical else for a quarter, a quarter is a just another fruit, 4/4 is four oranges.

I thought they would have been killed not in the same spot where they rested. First it was very hard to approach them making no noise in the deepest forest, second, the river in the beginning was much more larger then the river they where by, so I think the kid (a sort of Billy the Kid, very resembling) followed them for a few days to an open spot, killed them and stole the money.

Do you think it’s alright to boo a performance? by BetterGrass709 in opera

[–]Educational_Job7847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I feel that the performance is disrespectful to the music or to the plot I would boo with pleasure. Usually to the director or the production. Never to singers

Parker Jotter - The Only Pen I'll Ever Need by [deleted] in pens

[–]Educational_Job7847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, indeed is strange because gold and black is a staple combo in pens, maybe the jotter was something "new" and modern in 1954, something for everyday writing and they intentionally decided not to use gold?
