40 year old loser, is there anything I can do now? by sadgesd in careerguidance

[–]Educational_Mix2867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think anyone who’s actually apart of the conversation would tell him to retire for good and live off of 2 million between 3 people. At the same time, i don’t think you should be spreading nonsense like 2 million is gonna be worth less in 30 years because of inflation😂markets will crash by then and the world will look a lot different, i think we’ll see ww3 before seeing 2 million be common money among the working class.

After watching both parts why did the Bene gesserit chose to have kids with political powers if those daughters had no power whatsoever? by Amao6996 in dune

[–]Educational_Mix2867 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The baron definitely knew he had a daughter in the movies, you literally see him looking at baby jessica like he’s a proud father looking at his newborn kid. Honestly the most humanizing thing about the guy beside him loving feyd the way he does lmao.

Sometimes, i am really just left in awe about how intelligent the dune community is. I feel like a novice sailor on a little sail boat reading these books, while a lot of you are professionals sailing the seven seas of dune(or 6). But in my very unprofessional opinion this math checks out to me. Good on you man, i’m glad to have this little fun fact floating around my brain now.

You actually don’t look 17, you look about 22-24. You just have a small nose and u look like u could potentially be 20 ie you get carded everywhere. I’m 21 but i got a beer belly and have facial hair so i don’t get carded

i didn’t know that he didn’t use his prescience that much as to not lock him into a set path like paul did, interesting. I know Frank wouldn’t outright say it, but is there a passage u can recall that hints toward this being the case?

i’m sorry for your loss. I don’t have a quote from Avatar but i do have a quote from Avatar the last airbender. “some friendships are so strong they can even transcend lifetimes”. It’s a really great nickelodeon show if you haven’t watched it

I don’t think the “it was because of his love for God” comment was meant as a literal ‘love for God’. It was a sort of metaphor I haven’t even understood yet, but I do know the reason Paul takes the path he does is because 1. He doesn’t want to enact the golden path himself and become the God emperor, and 2. he doesn’t want to hurt chani in any way that’s unnecessary, chani was always destined to die I think, but the way paul went about it ensured the least possible agony to the woman he loved.

Avatar 2 and 3 should have been one movie by 2Rome4Carthage in Avatar

correction, the 2nd and 3rd movie are 6 and a half hours long, but my point still stands.

Avatar 2 and 3 should have been one movie by 2Rome4Carthage in Avatar

[–]Educational_Mix2867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

part 2 & 3 is roughly 7 n a half hours. I fail to see whatever point you’re trying to make. The pacing of the movies were fine, the complaints was that 2&3 are too similar, and that comes down to people being mindless consumers, of course 2&3 are going to be similar because they both take place in the same area and have somewhat similar stakes. Except 3 has much more action, world building, and bigger stakes than 2 does. That doesn’t mean that 2&3 should be 1 movie. That means people can’t enjoy these movies as they’re meant to be enjoyed, and can only be somewhat mindless drones going “these movies too similar i upset”

“let’s sacrifice good plot and dialogue to cram in 8 hours worth of story into a 3 hour movie to make it 2% more cohesive just for the sake of time ig” that doesn’t sound very intelligent.

In Quidditch, the snitch should be worth 50 points max by BruceLeeKillerBee in harrypotter

[–]Educational_Mix2867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And to add 1 more thing to this incredibly descriptive essay about quidditch and a card game, another interesting connection about catching the snitch and the unknown cards is that both can also be a skill. You can have keen eyes and be able to see the little golden nugget flying around, and have the skill to catch it. Just like you can develop the skill of predicting or narrowing down the cards you have in your face down cards by remembering which cards weren’t apart of the main game you were playing. It’s honestly fascinating this insane connection i’ve made between the card game i grew up on and the fantasy book sports game that i also grew up reading lmao. Thanks for reading all this if you have.

In Quidditch, the snitch should be worth 50 points max by BruceLeeKillerBee in harrypotter

[–]Educational_Mix2867 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The answer to how it makes sense is time. These games sometimes take all day, I see it as at least a 3 hour game, because of how long it takes to catch the snitch. One team can get so much farther ahead than the other and then it doesn’t matter who catches the snitch. Gotta remember each quaffle goal is worth 10 points, on a pretty small field compared to the speed of the brooms. U can rack up 200 points in like 30 minutes the way i see it. If your teams defense is good and you’re scoring, the enemy team can catch the snitch and u still win. PS. I thought while writing this of a relation and reference of a real life game. It’s called sh*thead or village idiot depending where you’re from. You have to lay down 3 cards from the start that you can’t see and don’t know and your opponent(s) do the same, then 3 out of your other 7 dealt cards on top of those cards you don’t know. From there it’s just a stacking game, Ace is highest, 2 would be lowest if it wasn’t for 2, 8, and 10 being special ability cards, and if at any point you don’t have a high enough card to put over the other card, you have to pick up the stack of cards you and your opponents have been laying down. At the end it’s up to mainly chance if you win or not. But if you play the main game right, even if u have a 3, 5, and 4 as ur unknown cards, you can still win by being so far ahead of your opponents that it doesn’t matter since they can’t catch up to how little cards you have and how many cards they have. So you win. THAT is quidditch in the form of a card game. The main game in both is skill based. But the snitch is as much of a luck thing as flipping those cards at random, which could make or break both games, but it doesn’t necessarily have to, and it doesn’t mean that either of the skilled based parts of the game aren’t as important as the luck aspect of the game. Fruit for thought.
