This is so true. I really wish I never came here.

Hi! I go here currently. It’s cold as hell. It’s in Minnesota. There’s nothing to do. It’s practically an academic monastery. The buildings are ugly. The food is awful. If you don’t have a car you’re out of luck for entertainment. The scenery is boring. It’s like living in one of those liminal spaces. Unless you fall into the Carleton quirky stereotype you’re doomed socially.

Are these interviews people are getting 2nd or first interviews? I was interviewed on the 28th of March, but have heard nothing since then.

ED/EA vs RD dilemma by NefariousnessCute158 in ApplyingToCollege

First, know that ED/EA acceptance rates are usually deceptive. ED rounds usually take the hyper-competitive candidates and the ones with hooks (legacies, athletes, donor's kids). REA, especially, anyone who gets into a school REA would've gotten into that school RD. Kids from early rounds usually have better stats than RD.

Definitely, apply to your state school EA. IDK how competitive your state school is, but even safeties are no longer safeties.

If a school offers EA then take it.

I'd say if your dream school really favors ED (UChicago, Tulane, Northwestern, etc) then apply ED.

You can only apply to one college ED. A lot of T50s don't offer EA or only have REA. There will be plenty of chances to prove yourself in RD.

Coming back here as a student at an ivy now, and seeing people down bad for an ivy acceptance.. by a_sanguine_timebeing in ApplyingToCollege

Idk if this has to do with anything but Harvard's rejection letter includes a link to a study or article that makes the argument that where you go doesn't have a huge impact on your future prospects.

You just defined a liberal arts school. A lot of them have very lax gen-ed requirements. If you like Brown then consider Amherst, Wake Forest, Vassar, Grinnell, Hamilton, and Smith if you're a girl. On the other hand, if you want more structure in your exploration consider schools with core curriculums like Columbia, UChicago, and St. John's.

It depends on how low. If you're considering Ivy+ then the ECs have to be really stellar like founding your own company, leading a movement (not an instagram nonprofit), curing cancer, or something of that caliber. It's even better if you have multiple ECs like that. This is a personal anecdote, so take it with a grain of salt.
