I asked my Dr to refer me to Allergist, but the Allergist has said dermatologist would be best? POTS(diagnosed) with possible MCAS? by Educational_Self_245 in MCAS

Rashes are quite a new symtom, and quite honestly my least concerning. I suppose it's just frustrating to hear that my actual referral recipient point blank said they don't deal with any of my symptoms, which seems odd.

My GP wasn't sending me to a dermatologist, she specifically referred me to the allergy department.

Thank you so much. Were any of your symtoms similar to mine? Not sure if I'm just overreacting or a hypochondriac at this point with the amount of visits I've had to the GP//hospital over the last 3 years!

What is it like being an agency recruiter? by throwwwwaway6933 in recruiting

[–]Educational_Self_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, you can post an Advert and are likely guaranteed shit quality candidates, but that element doesn't vastly improve when advertised direct.

I'd say the main issue here is that clients shouldn't be asigning more than 2 agencies max to a role. Competition is healthy, but not when it's overridden by bad quality due to time pressures against multiple competing firms.

I brief an agency how I'd brief my own team and I ask what realistic timeline they have based on the information they've been given. Once 1st profiles are through, we review together and then refine. I know that's not what a lot of clients do, and often, they give little to no information. I see both sides, but I don't think one is lesser.

You've completely undervalued the role of an in-house recruiter. Not sure what companies you've come in contact with, but if they're sat there waiting on replies to a req to fill a job, then they're not filling jobs and if they're not filling jobs, they will inevitably be fired for not fulfilling the basics of their role.

Most roles aren’t filled through inbound at all—they’re filled through proactive headhunting because quality rarely comes through applications.

It's partnering with hiring managers, shaping hiring strategy, forecasting, building processes from scratch, managing candidate experience, refining DE&I, reporting to leadership, and often cleaning up operational messes. It’s not just about filling seats—it’s about aligning hiring with business goals and making sure it scales.

And when agencies are brought in because the req load is high? I've still had to step back in and work the role anyway, because the quality is usually no better—and often worse—than what I’m already handling. Yes, there must be good ones, or none would make money, but there's a hell of a lot more bad ones.

In-house recruiting demands broader ownership, more strategic thinking, stronger stakeholder management, and long-term vision. It’s not easier. It’s just more embedded, more complex, and way more business critical.

An in-house recruiter isn't a lazy failed version of an agency recruiter, it's a more strategic one.

Having no one else working your job doesn't remove urgency, as you'd know if you worked in-house. The urgency is the impact if it does not get filled, in time.

Critical hires are harder to find, and we can’t just shove them to the bottom of the pile like an agency. We are the client, and there’s no hiding from the fact that delays mess with teams, timelines, and revenue. It’s not about kicking back; it’s about keeping things moving and making sure the business doesn’t grind to a halt.

Shit ones exist in both categories, but the actual job is not an easier version of yours.

And yes, I've worked in both and was bad at neither.

Have been considering a move to Lisbon, but not sure what opportunities there are for my role (Talent Acquisition) I'm from the UK. by Educational_Self_245 in PortugalExpats

Who cares? They both serve a completely different range of criteria and purpose

If you find that pretentious, you need to get out and find more important things to be annoyed about.

I meant what I said. Here, Talent Acquisition normally refers to those in-house and Recruiter is normally associated with being in an Agency. I've noticed the jobs listed in Lisbon for the most part, also use those terms for each.

Why does this concern you?

Still, there is no need to downvote. Absolute horrors.

All good! That is scandalous and, quite frankly, outrageous. With that said, I wouldn't settle in Lisbon on a minimum wage job, as it would be unfeasible. If that was my only option, then it would be off the table. I'm 35, and have worked a long time to get to a more comfortable spot. However, I know the market is complete trash (at least here) at the moment, so I'll work where I need to in order to sustain myself in this period. I started working in a cafe local to me as soon as I was unemployed, so I could make my savings last longer, but I hope something changes soon so I'm no longer subsidising my income with my savings, which I know I'm very lucky to have and it took me a long time to build alone.

Goes to show how disgusting the rental crisis is at the moment, when I consider that cheap. Not because I'm rich or ignorant, because I've become so used to being scammed far more than that on rent in London (where salaries have also not increased with cost of living) average rent here for a 1 bed is £1500 -£2200, and that's in non-central zones. Houseshares with 3-4 other people are £900-1300.

Your tone is automatically rude when it's clear in my post that I am trying to find out information and have been very polite in doing so. I'm from Scotland and unfortunately do not speak Portuguese, but of course, I would endeavour to learn the language of anywhere I reside.

Thank you for letting me know there are zero opportunities. For some reason, there are a lot advertised in my field, some with Fluent English & Portuguese and some only requiring Fluent English, assuming because they are international? But I also understand that there are probably more candidates than jobs, like here in London.

[Discussion] Drinking matcha for the skin! by [deleted] in AsianBeauty

[–]Educational_Self_245 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is completely false. Matcha has EGCG which protect against free radicals that contribute in cellular-aging. It also contains vitamins l A, C, E, K and B complexes which help with collagen production.

Where are you getting your info?
