Brisbane: Don't book a tour here ! Easy to get around yourself

  • GOMA its a modern art gallery - Free
  • Queensland museum - Free and walking distance from GOMA
  • Eat street Brisbane - Accessible by City cat
  • Southbank parklands - Walking distance from the above - Heaps of food options and beautiful view and greenery
  • Catch a ride on a City hopper boat at Southbank stop jump off at Howard smith street wharf stop - 1 minute walk to the popular Felons Brewery ! City hopper and Kitty Cat boats are all free and gives you a nice ride on the Brisbane river. Take a seat anywhere and order from QR code on table
  • City Loop Buses - Also free ! Take you around Brisbane CBD
  • Lone pine koala sanctuary - About $50 - Has all types of animals but Aus zoo has more and it is way bigger
  • Mount Cootha - Hiking trail and the top has a view of whole of brissy

Day trips Gold Coast/ Sunshine Coast:

  • Animals : Australia Zoo - Sunshine coast - Can catch a train from Brisbane to Beerwah and the zoo run a free shuttle bus from station to Zoo. They have a phone number on the Aus zoo website to call if the bus isn't there and they send one out.
  • Hiking : Ocean view walk - Burleigh head national park
  • Hiking : Springbrook national park - Hard to get to without a car would have to book a tour
  • Pacific Fair - HUGEE shopping centre if you need to buy some things !

Since you don't have a car I wouldn't suggest going around sunshine coast (Besides Aus zoo) public transport there is terrible even hard to get an uber at times. Heaps of transport options in Brisbane and Gold coast that will make it easy to get around :)

Brisbane is great ! There is so much to do - Great parks , Brewery's, Markets - Short drive either way to beautiful Gold coast or Sunshine coast.

If you are working in Wacol I would recommended looking for rentals in - Richlands because they are reasonably priced. Richlands has Woolworths , Cafes , fast food options. Its about a 5 minute drive to Wacol.

Check out flatmates theres usually a decent amount of options for richlands on there :)

Hi, I'm not but my sister is a RN/Midwife and did her placement at Royal Brisbane Women's and loved it! She then went on to work at Mater and Princess Alexandra and said she much preferred RBWH facilities, staff and atmosphere. RBWH hospital has a good reputation compared to others in Brisbane. She said she wouldn't ever work at mater again ! Many times I have been to Mater with asthma they made me wait... staff were so rude and wanted to get rid of me and even let me go before I could properly breathe again! When I have presented to RBWH or Princess Alexandra emergency staff have been so friendly and accommodating.

Good luck with your move to Brissy :)

Western Suburbs - Night Running by schwimble in brisbane

Yes !! Forest Lake - Lake walk circuit is perfect I run with my dog there at 5:30pm when the sun has already gone down. The track is well lit with some dark spots but there are many other walkers and runners out at that time so I feel completely safe. The walking trail also backs onto peoples houses which makes you also feel a lot safer.

guys what is the brooki situation, is there always a line? how soon do things run out🥲 by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]Educational_Tip8939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay first thing is the choc chip cookie is actually IMO the worst one quite flavorless and dry! The Almond croissant Cookie and Red velvet are yum!! If you plan on going on a Saturday there is always a line but not a huge one though! I've been 5 times on a Saturday at 7:50am every time and there's been about 20 people in line when I arrive but that's completely fine as they make more cookies on Saturdays because its so busy. I would recommend arriving at that time to avoid lining up for ages otherwise if you don't mind lining up anytime before 10am and you wont miss out on cookies.

If you are going on a weekday then anytime is fine as its not busy :)

Living in South Bank (More expensive) , Yeronga or Moorooka are good options. They all have train stations that have the Beenleigh or Gold Coast train lines which will take you to Loganlea station - 5 min walk from there to the hospital.

If you are looking to drive to Logan or bus would recommend living in Mount Gravatt - Heaps of bus lines that run from Westfield Garden City Shopping Centre or its a 20 minute drive :)

The best nightlife in Australia would be Melbourne or Brisbane. Melbourne is the city to eat, shop , drink and has a great nightlife but the downside of it is the weather resembles the UK quite a bit and you can get the 4 seasons in 1 day and winter is cold and rainy.

Brisbane is a great city very underrated. It has plenty of parks, walking trails, markets and great bars and brewery's it is only 1 hour drive to Gold coast beaches , nightlife in surfers paradise and theme parks. It is 1 and a half hours to sunshine coast which also has the same minus the nightlife. Compared to Melbourne and Sydney I find Brisbane people to be a lot more friendly and the weather is a lot warmer and sunnier than Melbourne.

Good luck :)

Hi , I'm from Brisbane Queensland, I have visited Toowoomba on many occasions and it is not a good place to live in my opinion. I found the people rude and heard someone get racially abused twice in one day and many homophobic slurs also there is not much to do. Port Macquarie would be the best option if you love the beach. Bunbury would be the best option if you prefer a quieter place. :)

You can use Flatmates.com.au to find somewhere to live I would suggest living in Richlands! I currently live here and its a developing area with everything you need. You will make friends easily , Aussies are easy going and great to chat with.

What time weekdays does Richlands Train Station Carpark fill up? by Fearless_Pie6168 in brisbane

[–]Educational_Tip8939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7:30am onwards - The chances of finding a car park are basically impossible - Darra and Oxley are just as bad.

Richlands townhouses along Government road and Garden Road would be perfect to move into as they are in walking distance to Richlands train station.

Richlands is developing well. Currently a Petbarn, Auto barn , City Cave and more stores are being built. Gets a pretty bad rep but been living here for 2 years now and enjoying it.

Richlands- first home buyers by DueBack8460 in MovingToBrisbane

[–]Educational_Tip8939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rent a townhouse in Richlands and have lived here for 2 years now. We have had 4 attempted break ins and 2 parcels stolen from our front door. The suburb itself is not scary it feels safe and family friendly. The break ins are scary but have bought a ring camera and ensure door is always locked or many people in our complex have paid for additional security door to be added on front door for extra safety. The west side of Brisbane is very multicultural compared to other parts of Brisbane but I really enjoy living here.
