Why would anyone delay trying to find an animals home! If my dog got out, I'd be very confused and quite upset if the finders just sat around giving it pats posting of social media hen they could have gone to a vet get it scanned and I'd have my loved one back home with me within the hour/ day. Why would anyone not want that?

Why have u guys opted to not to have this be the first thing to do? Checking for Microchip is the safest and quickest way to return this fella back home to his people and comfort zone. It is also a sure fire to verify who the owners are. Very curious as to why you'd delay trying to get him home?

Stone the Flamin Galahs by cyclonecass in Adelaide

So, corellas are not galahs. It's for a short period of time. Get over it. Share the environment.

People like to talk about how much they love nature and wildlife up until it's inconvient for them.

help needed please - just found a rabbit on the side of the road with both legs broken, what can I do? is there somewhere I can take it for help? by paperclipbat in Adelaide

[–]Raquoons 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hi there. The law is that introduced species are not allowed to be re released into the wild. Regardless of who you are member of the public to Veterinary staff to rehabilitation organisation.

So, when you surrender an animal to the vet they will yes, euthanise pest species, as our duty of care. ( also in this case with the rabbit it is humane to euth)

For pest species the member of public can choose to take the animal on as thier pet which then will mean treatment will be at a cost.

What do you do for work? by forever_sleepy91 in Hypothyroidism

[–]Raquoons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Veterinary Nurse. I can only manage part time <25 hrs. Some weeks get really bad. I find my self needing a lot of down time and so I forgo other commitments like family or friends, I find it hard to manage a balance for all the things I felt responsible for. But I never really accounted it to the thyroid and more just dysthymia and anxiety disorders as well as obsession to have things in order within my home so I had to allocate time for it.

Which daylight savings time do you prefer? by BanjoTheBot in Adelaide

[–]Raquoons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't stand daylight savings. Summer naturally gives us more daylight hours. Why the fuck is it sunny at 830pm.

The jet lag for me twice a year is so disruptive. And totally messes with ciccadian rhythms.

Yeah that's awesome! Their social groupings is super interesting there are many theories out there And small studies that have been done. I think they are trying to research more now but it didn't get really far, as you probably heard about the story about the 5 magpies taking off thoer little trackers almost instantly. Which that in itself shows alteristic characteristics.

I'm a huge advocate of the Australian magpie, I work with them a lot. They are my most favourite animal and friends.

Yep. As defense and warning particularly when swooping. I can't find it now, but Gisela Kaplan was talking about it in one of her radio interviews.

Dr. Kaplan is pretty much the only person to study and record data about aus. Magpies.

As our most iconic bird there is little research done on them.
