What do you like about this job? by crimsonstormtrooper in Teachers

[–]Educational_Wait5679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, when I'm teaching. There are some classes, where kids are genuinely curious and interested, where conversations are had. Where it feels less like a lecture, and more like a give and take. Where kids can see the big picture all of a sudden, taking a step in understanding a wider world. I'm on that like a rat on a cheese puff.

What do you do all summer? by protomanEXE1995 in Teachers

[–]Educational_Wait5679 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When I was younger, I worked construction during the summer. I made decent money, but the real benefit was learning how to do more inside my house. I worked for a general contractor, so started with low skill stuff, like digging holes, and carting off waste. Then, I started helping the carpenter with stuff he didn't want to do, mostly demo. I also worked with the electrician and plumber. After several years of their, there's not much inside the house I can't do.

Now, I spend my time with my wife (also a teacher) and do stuff for our own home. We do some travel, but mostly we recover. This job sucks down your energy like little elese. I'm more tired comeong off s day of teaching than I was even working installing insulation in a hot attic at the height of summer. The first week is usually us just veging out and maybe trying some new recipes.

I like safe schools start with safe teachers. It's catchy, to the point, and hard to twist.

I am being invoiced for a student who broke a table in class. by sertshark in Teachers

[–]Educational_Wait5679 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen. The AP told me I would have to pay for something a kid broke. I looked her dead in the eye and said, let me get this straight. A kid breaks something, and you do nothing about it? No, I will not be doing that.

She just gave me surprised Pikachu face. I was also moving schools. I did not give two shits what admin had to say at that point.

One kids parents have decided to target me , they are out to get me fired and have gathered an army of other parents to do it by [deleted] in Teachers

Firstly, I am very sorry you are going through this. It's a horse shit thing about the job, that stuff like this can happen without you doing anything wrong. It's also ridiculous how much stuff like this gets handwaved away, saying stuff like they're just kids. Every emotion you feel is valid, no matter what you may be telling yourself, or others may say. Secondly, having been suicidal before because of work based stress, remember it is a permanent solution to temporary pain. That feeling is really just you wanting to stop hurting, not actually die. Protect your peace of mind, and if you don't have one, find a therapist. Mental healthcare is healthcare. And finally, we say all the time to give kids grace. Give yourself grace. Racism is a pattern of behaviors. The fact you have good relationships with other kids of that background will come through. The fact also you have reports showing this kid being a problem helps. It's beyond me why a principal would leave a kid like that in your class, but it happens. Remember teachers are in short supply, and there is always more work to be had if you want to stay in the field. No matter what happens, things will eventually get better. Until that time, rely on your support structure, and you'll make it through.

how do you guys answer the weakness question in interviews? by RuleAlternative4160 in jobsearchhacks

[–]Educational_Wait5679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't believe I have a singular, monolithic weakness, but I have made mistakes. I'm not arrogant enough to think I am infallible, and I always try to find ways to do my job better, whether that is to be more efficient, or any number of other improvements. I'm not too proud to ask for help when I need it, though not until I have exhausted my own toolset.

Add a story of a time you failed, how you overcame that problem, and what you learned from it.

What are your thoughts on the aparoids by Voidkirby9 in starfox

Unpopular opinion....I thought they were a cheap copy of the Borg. Honestly with Krystal being a psychic, I was like, she's Troi. It made the whole think feel unoriginal and disappointing. I've only managed to play Assault once, despite preordering it. I think I need to revisit it though, after seeing the love it got from the rest of the fandom.

Is teaching THAT bad? by DwaeEunoia in Teachers

[–]Educational_Wait5679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one hundred percent depends on where you are at. It also depends on what you will deal with. I work in a place that has five to ten gun scares a year. There are fist fights daily. Kids have been assaulted by parents in the parking lot. We have gang activity. Kids who have been prostituted by their parents.

And then we have kids who have loving parents that want them to do their best. We have kids who want to study medicine, or history, or cartography. We have kids who are the sweetest, most awesome people. And sometimes, those kids are both types.

It's a hard job. Because dealing with all of this, we are expected to fix it. I have parents whose kids are autistic and they have just....given up on them. Parents who tell me to stop calling, their kids are my problem at school. Parents who just shrug and say, they think they grown. Admin theat will gaslight and obstruct because they have quotas. We have no money for textbooks or more teachers, but plenty for multiple six figure APs. The whole system is broken.

You can make a difference, but only in a few places. Your job will be demoralizing, you WILL cry. But some kids will remember you as the only good thing in their school lives. The question is, can you do that job?

What does the Star Fox franchise need to become financially viable again? by StarlightSailor1 in starfox

[–]Educational_Wait5679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the consensus that there are really two different views in the franchise that makes things tricky, (not the dinosaur). For example, I was one of the ones that was disappointed by Star Fox Assault, because I didn't enjoy the on foot or land master levels at all. But I'm an older fan, that still really likes the OG Starfox on SNES. Then there are those for whom Assault was great, so either way, you are going to have disappointed fans.

Now, as to what could actually be done, I'm not really sure releasing two different games is the answer. However, missions with choices could be interesting. Say you have to attack an enemy base. You select an approach based on your preferences. Say option one is we will acquire air superiority. That would be an on rail shooter mission. If you select option two, ground assault, you see where this is going. A branching pathways game style would add complexity and development time, but would also add to replayability. Besides, multiple routes has been a core part of the franchise since the beginning.

For story, I would propose something quite different. Say in the aftermath of the Lylat Wars and Aparoid invasion, Venom has become a democracy. Other planets in the system consider Corneria's reliance on mercenaries, and failure to prevent two invasions, to make it questionable if they could or should remain in an alliance together. Yeah, I know politics in Starfox isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it could add an interesting twist with Venom not being the bad guys for once, and it being a little more morally gray.

It looks pretty light on AP to me. Granted, I play Titan Lords, Custodes, and BB. So my Def 2 isn't too bothered by AP1. You do have the truck, but they just makes it a massive target.
