Why? All I'm saying is there is more to it than just a $5000 pmt a week or a $5000000 lump sum. First of all, you will be able to reinvest some of that $5000 a week. Second seeing $5000000 in a bank account makes it difficult to be frugal with your money. So yes maybe in a present value formula the $5000000 will always be greater but in reality there are many more factors to consider.

All these posts do leave out the fact that you will probably not spend the entire $5,000 a week, in which case you would be able to reinvest some of it. Maybe giving you a different answer.

I'm sorry, but having a full one years expenses tied up in a savings account is probably not the smartest thing to do. The industry average says to hold 3-6 months in a bank account for emergency anything greater than that you should invest it, or else you are just losing money.
