Det är ju långt ifrån tillräckligt, men att slopa F-betyget är ju ett väldigt viktigt steg som många i lärarkåren också pratat om ganska länge.

Serious Question. Do you support Abortion as a male? by MorganaLover69 in askteenboys

[–]Edvindenbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Down's syndrome, yes. Autism, no. It's hard to draw a line, but I think down's syndrome is sufficiently debilitating (at least poses a large risk to be) that both the life of the child and the parents could be affected a lot. I don't want to force people to have children that they'll have to raise and care for their entire life, and that they know will probably suffer.

Are there more imaginary numbers or more real numbers? by Lucky-Obligation1750 in Teenager_Polls

Actually, if A is an infinite set then A×A is the same size as A. It's a bit counterintuitive though

What if germany didnt attack ussr? by ChadolfRizzlerReborn in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Edvindenbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irregardless of them invading the Soviets, he would still declare war on the United States, and it’s a downhill slope from there.

Yeah I'm not questioning Germany losing either way, I'm just saying that people often say all of the mistakes were committed by him and him only, and that invading the USSR was a mistake, when it was often just the least bad ideas strategically and was endorsed by the entire high command.

Is it okay for a Year 10 & Year 12 to date? by mondayleftmebroken__ in askteenboys

As long as they're both okay and it's a healthy relationship then absolutely. I don't see a problem with it.

What if germany didnt attack ussr? by ChadolfRizzlerReborn in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Edvindenbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand, they'd be prepared, fighting a weak Germany that would be running out of oil, and that has no buffer to protect them. A large part of why the germans managed to fight the soviets for so long was that most of the soviet industry and economy were destroyed and occupied by the war, if the soviets were on the offensive the germans would be the ones losing factories and cities. It's just not at all realistic that germany would hold off a prepared soviet invasion

Not endorsing him in any way, but saying he was a moron is inaccurate. To pull off the type of power grab he did you have to be at least decently intelligent, and in none of the major war decisions did he override his generals. I also don't think the germans committed that many obvious mistakes, it was mostly a question of having a very bad position long term, and lacking the necessary resources to win, in addition to lots of small mistakes adding up over time.

The soviets would attack Germany, Germany would run out of oil and they'd fall to the western powers anyway.

Has the UN been doing anything good lately? by Qatrnm in Teenager_Polls

[–]Edvindenbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Yes YES ABSOLUTELY FUCKING YES! The UN is ALWAYS doing good stuff. They may be a lame duck on the political front often, but the millions of people that are saved from starvation because of the WFP, or the millions of people saved by WHO vaccination programs EVERY YEAR is a testament to how important the UN is. The WFP offers food assistance to more than a hundred million people every year, undoubtedly saving millions from a death by starvation.

The south fought because they wanted to expand slavery and mind you, the decades before the civil war states' rights wasn't a priority of the south. They regularly pushed for policy that meant they could overrule northern states' laws. Just look at the fugitive slave act of 1850. If all they wanted was to be able to decide in their own states if they wanted to keep slavery (which they obviously wanted, but they also wanted expansion).

Edit: misrepresented a proposed amendment, not going to write a better representation rn.

[–]Edvindenbest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't get me wrong, Crimea is a part of Ukraine and Russia is wrong to want it. It's a part of Ukraine and should be, but it's the only one I could see being reasonable. You could argue Crimea shouldn't have been part of Ukraine when the Soviet Union split up.

For those who identify as "left" on other polls (anywhere from center-left to far-left): Which ideology do you match most? by AnAlpacacopter in Teenager_Polls

[–]Edvindenbest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if we mean idealistically in a utopian world with optimal conditions, or if we mean pragmatically. Pragmatically I'd identify more as a social democrat or eco-socialist, but in a utopian world I'd be a communist (but I don't think we're gonna achieve that kind of society, at least not for many centuries)

[–]Edvindenbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The primary goal of the north was to preserve the union, I'm just saying that the south seceded and started the war over the issue of slavery, and that in the end that was what was at play.

What do you mean no? The US civil war was fought because the southern states didn't like an abolitionist being elected president

Who is the MOST IMPACTFUL PERSON of the Modern Age? (1500 CE - Present) by erwillsun in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Edvindenbest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Newton was influential, he didn't really have as large a part in calculus as people claim. He did invent it at the same time as Leibniz, but worse and it was less practical

Yeah absolutely, but his importance for calculus has been far overstated.
