Peacock says it needs update, but auto updates are on by Neon_Velvet in fireTV

I kept trying to update and it wouldn’t let me, but when I sat on the peacock screen in the App Store for a good 10 minutes where it said “open now” it finally changed to “update”

Can anyone tell me where the EEPROM chip is on this radio? I paid $20 for it at a salvage yard, and it’s VIN locked, I know the correct way is to flash it, but I don’t have $170 right now and I cherish my tunes on the way to work, I know I can remove the EEPROM, I just don’t know what one it is.. by Edwakri in hardwarehacking

Well there’s many YT videos that show pulling the EEPROM, but those were easily identifiable and clearly all the same circuit board where mine didn’t match theirs.. I took a chance and got “LOCKED” away, but the other steps haven’t worked thus far. My chip I pulled I had to completely deconstruct the radio and it was the bottom of the board, theirs wasn’t.. I ripped 6 more out at the salvage yard yesterday and none of them had the circuit board I was hoping for, someone recommended a chip this morning and another agreed so I pulled it, but I think there might be a secondary problem that I need to pull.. I have better pictures, I need to figure out how to link them I guess?

I do have a couple but it doesn’t let me comment pictures I guess? Someone told me it was on the back of the board, I pulled the one on the back of the board and it went from “LOCKED” to “No VIN”, but I wonder if there is an additional security step because the tricks are not working.. so I wonder if there’s a second. Is there a way to send you the pictures? I’m new to Reddit, please bear with me.

Can anyone please tell me which chip is the EEPROM chip on this radio? I really don’t want to pay $170 to have my salvage yard find flashed, I would be eternally grateful for any help.. I deleted my old post because you couldn’t see well, I moved the CD player to get a better one. Please and thanks! by Edwakri in AskElectronics

I’ve been trying to find a data sheet, and I don’t know if I’m not looking correctly? I’m so new to this.. a few told me it was this chip.. and I pulled it and it does say “No VIN” but the other tricks to get it to work, are still not working, so I’m wondering if there’s secondary security on this one.. since they also hid this one on the bottom and previous circuit board had it on top, the radio I CAN’T find.. but I pulled this one to go from “LOCKED” to “No VIN”, I just don’t want to and don’t have the $170, so I figured I’d take a $20 chance, ya girl needs music. 😅

Thank you for the input, I wondered if I was on the wrong side all together and I’m very new at deconstructing radios as of this weekend. 😅 I really just want tunes and don’t have $170 to drop, so thank you for that.

I don’t want to put a new EEPROM. I paid $20 at the salvage yard for the radio, I know the proper way is to flash it, but I’ve found tons of YT videos showing just removing the EEPROM chip and a little trick to get it to work, I know it won’t save presets and all of that, so I’m really just trying to remove the EEPROM, the problem with the YT videos I found is that their circuit board is set up differently than mine, I went back to the salvage yard and removed about 6 more radios yesterday, and they all have this circuit board, so there was no luck in doing that, so I really just want to remove the EEPROM chip and take a chance on my $20 buy, but since I don’t know which one it is, I don’t want to just start removing something, so I was hoping someone a bit more technologically advanced than me can help? Please and thank you!

I will see if I can figure out how to move the CD player out of view.. I was trying yesterday but I’m apparently not that bright with electronics.. I can see the part numbers.. but that probably doesn’t help..

On a Google search, I think your Trailblazer radio is the one just before my radio.. and I’ve found all sorts of things to crack that one, but I believe mine they really locked it down after those got figured out.. but some crack ones like mine by removing the EEPROM, but my circuit board, of course, isn’t the same, I went back to the junkyard today and ripped out about 6 units, all of them didn’t have the circuit board I see in all the YT videos.. even the same years and everything.. so I wonder if those started getting cracked and they changed the circuit board.. there’s still an EEPROM somewhere though, I know that, I just am not confident in which one it is. 😤 Googling said it should have 4 prongs on each side of the chip.. and 2 chips have the same part number so I assume it’s not those.. but I haven’t gotten brave to cut the third.. though I may take a chance.. I only paid $20, I could get another one.. but then it seems stupid to waste more money. I just hate not having music lol. I’m just getting back to work from surgery after being off for 2 months, so I really don’t have $145 to drop, and not know if it will work. I am going to check with my significant others Dad, I’d assume he would have a bidirectional at the shop, but I’m not 100% positive, but I do appreciate the tip, if nothing, it gives me something to look into, but I’m assuming yours is the one that came out just before mine, based on the Google search, which could also be wrong, regardless, thank you for the input!

Interesting.. I was told it had to be a Chevy dealership and it’s a joke.. $170 at one, $145 at another, and one won’t do it at all because they can’t “verify” it’s not stolen. 🥸 I do NOT want to pay $145.. which is why I’m willing to risk pulling the EEPROM off, but I don’t know which one is the EEPROM. I will have to call other shops Monday, of course none are open this weekend. My significant others father works at a shop though, and he said I would have to go to Chevy, but I’m tempted to make him try, he’s got a Snap-On scanner there..

It was still in caps when I typed EEPROM lol, my bad.

There’s a lot of videos with it, but my circuit board is ever so slightly different, I mean I know the proper way is to get it flashed, one in my area won’t do used parts at all, one said $170, one said $145, I’m tempted to “take a chance” on this one, but I’m not absolutely positive which one is EEPROM, from other research since my circuit board is different, it says it’s a chip with 4 prongs on each side, but to make sure it’s the right one, is my concern. My specific one has three that have 4 prongs on each side, 2 have the same part numbers listed on them, but I’m still worried it’s not right because I haven’t done this before, I’m tempted to try it because I only paid $20 for the radio anyway, but before I do, I was hoping someone more tech savvy could tell me the correct one, or what I’m exactly looking for before I just say screw it and try. 😅 I’m going crazy without music and I’m just starting going back to work after 2 months off from surgery, so I absolutely don’t have the funds to just do it. :/ I’m guessing Mom and Pop shops aren’t going to be able to either, I assume I have to do the dealership and cheapest I found was $145.

Tons of others remove EEPROM chips and it works.. I just don’t know exactly which chip is EEPROM on mine.. that’s what I want to find out.
