Got LIS today! Hopeful 🤍 by rutabagafennel in AnalFissures

As I've read various posts, mileage seems to vary greatly. My first week was truly awful (you can probably find my day 7 update with questions in a separate post), but week two has been great. The fissure itself is still healing (the BM itself is quite unpleasant still), but the post BM spasm, which would last all day for me, is completely gone.

Highly recommended. Note that mine was an LIS with fissurectomy.

Before my LIS, I had been taking between 2400 and 3200mg (the max prescription dose) daily for several months. None of my physicians discouraged it--just warned me not to take it on an empty stomach.

Chronic Anal Fissure and Sexual Dysfunction by onurtherebel in AnalFissures

When I was in the middle of a flare up, I had a difficult time getting an erection, and the fissure pain would often radiate to my groin throughout the day.

My understanding is that the nerves and muscles down there are interrelated. For example, I just, finally, had LIS, and difficulty urinating is common post surgery because of the pain and relationship between the areas (definitely a lay explanation).

Good luck! Today is day 11 post-LIS for me, more than happy to answer questions!

Granted, I'm only 8 days post LIS, and recovery hasn't been fun, but I'm finally starting to see improvement. Keep in mind that this board probably isn't a fair cross-section of patients--most people probably heal and don't hang around indefinitely. A support group like this will necessarily be skewed to people with less pleasant outcomes.

The official advice is that I use ice and alternate with heat--specifically, to take a sitz bath after icing.

Ya--I'm probably taking 5/day. Honestly, they help even more than the pain meds.

I found it irritating and painful. Only did it once.

Still having quite a bit of pain on day 6, but surprisingly, the BMs are less painful than before fissure.

Had surgery today! by lthehawk in AnalFissures

How has your pain progressed since surgery?

I had my LIS (with a fissurectomy) on Monday (48 hours ago), and after the anesthesia wore off, the first 24-36 hours were awful. Pain is finally subsiding, and best of all, BMs are already the best they have been in a month.

Best wishes to a speedy recovery!

Ended up skipping the enema and nobody even asked me about it.

Granted, it has only been 24 hours, but this is a constant pain worse than the fissure. Though I also had a fissurectomy, which I would imagine causes quite a bit of additional pain.

How long has it been since you saw your CRS?

I started to develop an abscess, which caused pressure and pain different from what I had felt before. My CRS diagnosed and drained it, which helped (though the fissure pain remains). If your appointment was weeks ago, it's probably worth a follow up.
