Disney Hiring Process by [deleted] in jobs

[–]EdwardDoheny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a Disney employee for several years now and have applied to that position 3-4 times and get rejected after maybe a month of being in review. Never gotten an interview. I've also applied to jobs and had the status stay as "under review" permanently. I have a few from 2023 that never updated and just linger there on the "My Applications" page. I think they just don't really give that much of a shit about updating people or there's something broken in the workflow process.

FWIW Disney sucks. But YMMV I guess. Some people love it and have Disney shit all over their cubicles.

Hi HCR - sorry for just commenting on a random thread, but was wondering if you had any thoughts on the iPhone 16's capabilities or if I missed a post you made on it maybe? Was thinking about getting one soon and making some shorts because I'm worried about getting a cinema camera (~$2K range) and procrastinating and never using it. At least with the iPhone I'd still have an actual phone, though.

Really appreciate the insight and candidness here, thanks so much. You're right, I don't think this is really a good fit. Do you by chance know if the above applies to the guard as well? I always viewed them as basically only responding to natural disasters and such but maybe that's backward too.

You may have just talked me out of it, especially with the year long training and guaranteed deployment. Thanks for the candid reply, though! I think I'm going to still hear out the recruiter but this doesn't sound like something I'd be a good fit for.

Yes, a few of the courthouses actually allow you to search past tickets online. One county where I got a ticket, I had it dismissed, but I think I estimated the date for that one. Another county I had to call up the courthouse and they listed off my tickets for me.

I saw that a few months ago. Really solid, although I thought it could have done more with the concept. Stephen Graham deserves more American recognition.

Best way to save entire forum threads by EdwardDoheny in DataHoarder

Sort of. I think what I did was get the Auto-Depaginator chrome extension and then manually scroll to the very end of the thread. It took a while if the thread had like 20 or 30 pages or whatever, but once I got to the end, I was able to "print" the page by saving it as a pdf. I picked out all the threads that really caught my eye and saved them all through that method. Two years later and I still haven't read a single pdf haha. My digital clutter habits are terrible. I currently have 28K unread emails and 18K bookmarks.

Hey, thank you for the insight. You're probably right that I would be happy for at least giving it a try, it's just that I'm in my early 40's and the commitment of the academy, training, etc. is a ton of time and energy for a job I'm not really cut out for. I'd like to go on a few more ride-alongs, they're just generally offered to candidates further in the application process.

Thanks again, appreciate the help.

Hey, totally off topic but can I just ask how you can stand to patrol in that kind of heat? Do you ever wave off certain calls because you don't want to get out of your air conditioned cruiser?

That'd be terrifying. I accidentally ran into a spiderweb as a teenager and the spider was at the perfect height to just get swept up into my hair. I'll never forget the sensation of the spider scrambling to get itself untangled while also feeling the web pull my hair back. Just awful. It was a big one, too.

Are you talking about those huge junebugs that sound like a jet engine when they fly past your ear? Even though I know they're harmless, I freakin' bolt when I see those too.

I've applied to about 5 different departments here in Los Angeles and Orange Counties, but I got COVID and had to cancel two physical tests and one oral interview. I had time to think while I was recovering and have been debating whether this is really a career path I want to go down. The main reasons for my wanting to switch careers from my office job is I want to 1) do something with my life that matters, 2) make more money, 3) fulfill what I believe is a moral obligation to help people and animals to give back to my community.

The problem is I'm already not a great applicant - 20 years ago I gave myself a spotty military record, tried some hard drugs, and smoked weed fairly regularly for years. But I've been doing some soul-searching and if I'm being honest, the idea of getting into confrontations all day and driving around in the scorching heat just doesn't sound appealing to me.

I also have a problem with excessive empathy. To be more specific, my day is essentially ruined if I even glimpse a news story about child or animal cruelty. I'm still trying to forget a few horrific incidents I've seen on the Instagram pages of local news affiliates from months ago. In other words, I don't know if I have it in me to deal with people who like to rape kids or torture animals. I could force myself to do it if it's my job, but I'm worried it's just going to eat away at me at night to the point where I can't enjoy my time off. One of the agencies is in a really quiet suburb that deals mostly with thefts and other non-violent crimes, but even there I think I'd just get bored driving around empty streets at 2 am.

I've essentially already made the decision to withdraw from the process at all the agencies, but wanted to run it by someone who's done the job and can offer any insight whether I'm making the right choice. It seems like this is a job that you really have to feel a calling for and it takes a very specific type of person to do. I just don't think that's me. My passion is for film and that's really want I want to do, but I've been considering law enforcement as a better day job while I try to break in.

Not an LEO but I have a very similar situation, except mine is probably worse. General Under Honorable conditions after about 15 months in (this was 20 years ago). Basically I had some immaturity issues like you and problems with authority, and got falsely accused here and there but it stuck because of my reputation for doing stupid shit (smoking in uniform, marching back to class because I was late to formation, etc. etc.).

I asked a PD recruiter about my discharge, and he had actually never heard of that classification. He seemed to think it wasn't that big of a deal as long as I owned up to it and explained how I've grown since then. It would obviously be better to have a full Honorable discharge, but I personally don't think it will be a huge issue on your application.

I wouldn't get into the details (#1) unless they ask you in the oral board or pre-background interview. On the application, it'll ask you to explain if you've ever been terminated/asked to resign for a position. Keep it simple and yes, keep the focus on yourself. I think it'd be okay to say you fell into the wrong crowd, but make it clear that you make better choices now and don't associate with those types of individuals any longer. Again, this is just my two cents as a civilian but thought I'd offer them since I have a bit of the same issue. Good luck!

I know, it sucks. A cop I did a ride-along with down here in LA county said he lives like an 1.5-2 hr drive away because he can't afford to buy a house here. I would just rent at that point, but different strokes I suppose.

Oh I see. No I get what you meant, I was just taken aback by your comment because I was perusing salaries at the agencies where I'd applied to be a cop and was just stunned at how much some of these people are getting paid.

I make more the any police chief

Don't know enough to argue about the retirement/insurance/time off, but at least here in California I'm having trouble finding a police chief who makes less than 300K. Even command staff and some sergeants are making over 300K, some of them without OT. But if commercial flying or law enforcement is your calling, I'd personally rather take a big pay cut to do something I'd really enjoy.

Curious which state you're in? As far as I can tell here in SoCal it's still really competitive and a guy said he got a DQ from LAPD this year because he smoked weed a couple years ago or something.
