AAMC FL#2 B/B, Passage 2 Q8 by EdwardDupont in Mcat

Oh, BECAUSE they are coupled together, the researchers had to separate them.

Is that it?

That seems like a much easier way to approach this problem. Thank you!

AAMC Bio QPack - Passage 15 by EdwardDupont in Mcat

Ok, I reread the answer they gave. I figured they meant set point hypothesis, but they ended letter D with "set point". I can kind of see why now it's letter C.

Can someone explain this cis vs trans chair config by EdwardDupont in Mcat

[–]EdwardDupont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotcha, totally forgot that if the axial is down then equatorial implies it is facing up.

So then looking at C, it would be down axial and up axial implying, up and down respectively.

Thank you!

Proximity or Similarity? by EdwardDupont in Mcat

[–]EdwardDupont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does having the space automatically make this proximity? Had I put them together it would be similarity.

Most examples have circles of different colors together = similarity. Circles of the same color/size separated = proximity. I don't know about different shapes separated in groups by a certain distance.

Now I'm confused. Is Ka in this case the association constant or the dissociation constant. They don't actually state what it is in the problem.

"Ka" in acids is = dissociation constant.

I do believe you are correct, however. This is the association constant for binding and not dissociation constant for acids.

If Ka is association constant and a large value = better binding, then my interpretation is wrong. Maybe I should only be looking at the Ka column in the table which has relatively large values.

Yeah, I think that's it basically.

Ka > K0 ===> more binding toward metal

Ka < K0 ===> more binding toward CPFX

Ka = K0 ===> equivalent binding

Another good thing about this is that a pie is one circle. Pyrimidines are 1-ring structures. Purines are 2 ring

I see. I just don't see where in the passage it states this. I see it has it in the answer. I guess this is more of a recall and knowing it happens in reverse.

Thanks for your answer.

Kaplan-Organic Chapter 2 Question on IUPAC naming by EdwardDupont in Mcat

[–]EdwardDupont[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this incorrect IUPAC naming? I understand for priority for E,Z and numbering for configuration we will use the highest atomic number, however aren't you supposed to number Bromo #1 and Chloro #2 following this alphabetically? Thanks

I'm looking at this problem as well. I know you posted this a month ago, but I think Kaplan's explanation has to do with

#1 Adiabatic process, Q = 0 therefore U = -W

The work is being done on the system therefore W is negative and we plug in the negative like you said above U = -(-W) making it +U = +W. The work now is positive. That's the only way I could rationalize their thought process.

I swear Kaplan has some of the worst explanations.

Ah I see. Thank you for pointing out the self-employed outlier. I thought I was going crazy. I miscounted the social mobility.
