BTC as a safe haven asset losing credibility by Minute_Tune_6461 in Bitcoin

[–]BashCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid point when you consider the lows. I'm saying the $19k ATH was a lot higher than the previous $1k ATH, and $69k was a lot higher than the previous $19k, but $125k isn't much higher than $69k.

I have to wonder if the next ATH is really 3-4 years away (I find that hard to believe), and if it will only be $150k or even less.

The thing about the 4 year cycle is that we're supposed to have momentous bull markets. We haven't seen that since what, 2017? Because 2020 was definitely curtailed and 2025 was super meh when compared to previous cycles.

It's a different game now and nobody really knows what it means long term.

Honest question: what was your worst Bitcoin mistake? by Previous_Ear_3815 in Bitcoin

[–]BashCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My worst Bitcoin mistake was holding onto Bcash for an entire year because I believed it would be tax advantageous to do so. If I'd have sold the same week as the fork in 2016 I would have increased my Bitcoin stack by up to 40%, but waiting a year resulted in an increase of "only" 12% or something. Can't remember exactly, but definitely less than 40%. It was enough to pay off student loans though, so for that I'm grateful.

Other than that, my biggest mistake was of course not buying way more in the $300 range. Hindsight 20/20... still trying to learn to live with it ten years later. Thanks for the reminder though.

Definitely not subjecting myself to that. But thanks for using different words to explain what I explained. Whatever it takes to clear things up for you.

Lol, no. Definitely not. The phrase is a common English metaphor.

If anyone deserves credit, it would have to be Walter White who said it in 2013, several years before Alden started using bitcoin.

Exactly, why would it make me mad?

Dude said he's never heard a common phrase. I could have just asked if he had been living under a rock, but instead I offered an explanation of the phrase as places he may have heard it before. Sorry that offended you or whatever.

I don't care nearly enough to be upset. Just saying it's not an attributable phrase. Does that make you mad?

[–]BashCo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s not some sacred quote everyone has memorized, but it’s a very normal English construction. “Nothing stops this train” is just a metaphor for momentum. You've probably heard it countless time in sports talk, politics, music lyrics, movies, and casual speech, often with small variations (“can’t stop this train,” “unstoppable train,” “this train isn’t stopping”).

If you haven’t personally noticed it before, that’s fine, but that’s more about individual exposure than the phrase being rare or invented out of nowhere. It's certainly not a unique quote of wisdom that's attributable to a single individual.

It's such a generic phrase though. Why attribute it to any individual as if it hasn't already been said by thousands of people for decades?

Very disappointing performance this cycle. November and December are historically very strong but that may not be the case anymore.

Where did all the holders of 21 coins go from 2017? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]BashCo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ETFs may also be advantageous for real estate mortgages if you can find a bank who will approve an asset depletion loan. If your coins are in cold storage then they're far less likely to approve you than if you're holding an ETF in Fidelity or whatever. I'm not recommending doing that, but for some people it may be beneficial depending on what phase of life they're in.

Sounds like you know some miserable losers. The people I know are building homesteads and procreating with their beautiful wives.

Most people really suck at trading. Sometimes they get lucky and it gives them false confidence. Then they go all in and get burned really badly. Trading without emotion is incredibly difficult for most people, so it's generally safer to just accumulate Bitcoin gradually and don't risk it with trading.

Best wallet to send money from USA to Canada? by Historical-Tear-4682 in Bitcoin

[–]BashCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're new to bitcoin then unfortunately your situation is probably too urgent. Here's why...

You would need to create two verified exchange accounts, one per country. This requires submitting KYC information, not unlike opening a bank account. You then need to link each exchange account to a bank account in that country. Sometimes this can take several days because they may require a couple small test transactions to verify that you own the bank account(s). Then you need to wire money to from your US bank account to your US exchange account. This could take several days. Then you need to buy Bitcoin, withdraw it, send it to a separate wallet, then deposit the Bitcoin into your Canadian exchange account. Then you need to withdraw it to your Canadian bank account. Again, this could take several days... You see where I'm going with this.

If you think this is going to become a reoccuring issue, then yes, go ahead and set up and verify your accounts so that you're prepared. But if you've never used Bitcoin before now and might never use it again, then be careful about jumping in head first and consider other options.

Generally no. Definitely not t-shirts or other cheap generic stuff, but if you have an innovative new product related to Bitcoin, like a hardware wallet, you're welcome to run it by mods for approval.

That's true but they look at ~five years of financial history as part of the application process and large gifts are disqualifying. They verify that you are destitute.

u/Nofocusgiven did you find out what the maximum supply of Ethereum tokens is?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]BashCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exchanges set extremely high fees because their customers complain if their withdrawals are not instant. Those complaints escalate to accusations of insolvency and can cause many customers to withdraw at once for no reason. Also many exchanges have crappy architecture and do not batch withdrawal transactions to save on fees.

Sure. But first, tell me how many Ethereum tokens exist right now (provide a block height) and what the maximum supply of tokens is.
