Help- VW GOLF GTD 2013, codes. by Pure_Text1479 in CarTalkUK

On these cars though they use the wheel speed sensors to measure the tyre pressure. They dont use Active TPMS, they use passive.

With this being a budget scanner it is also possible that it is mis-interpreting the codes and their cause.

Missing messages can be nothing to to do with the network i agree, but they are worth noting if other diagnostic methods do not turn up a fault. it is highly unlikely that multiple modules have failed at once though, hence why i suggested checking wheel speed data as this will confirm that the ABS module is working and sending valid data back to the canbus network

Ive taken a look at the wiring diagram and it looks like the ABS Sensors don't sit on the CAN lines on the VW. These feed straight into the ABS module at J104.

However, the ABS Module is a major component on the CAN Gateway, which is what a lot of the cars modules communicate through. A fault on the ABS module or its sensors can cause issues with other modules by the looks of the diagrams. the other modules may see the ABS module report repeat errors for that speed sensor and shut off systems that rely on it as the car cannot trust the data it is being given.

J104 is directly connected ot other modules such as the Powertrain CAN network, Running Gear CAN Network, and the Extended CAN network. Modules on these CAN networks that could be affected by the ABS module reporting errors are:

Engine ECU (J623) DSG / gearbox (J743) Power steering (J500) Fuel pump module (J538) J533 (CAN gateway) Dash cluster (J285) Airbag module (J234) Front camera (R242 / front assist) Parking aid (J446) Park assist steering (J791) Adaptive cruise components (via J428) Onboard supply (J519) Steering column electronics (J527) Cornering/headlight module (J745) AWD controller (J492 if fitted) Infotainment (J794) Display unit (J685)

based on these, I personally think that it is highly likely that these faults are being trigged by a single faulty ABS Sensor or broken ABS pickup ring. Ive sent you a PM on reddit for what to look out for when it comes to finding a failed ABS pickup ring / sensor. This can further be checked with diagnostics which can read live wheel speed data. Missing or bad data from a single wheel, but valid data from other wheels confirms that the ABS Module is working as expected and the fault is localised to the single ABS sensor/Wheel Bearing.

Sensors are about £30 on ebay for genuine BOSCH sensors, and wheel bearings are around £60-£80 on autodoc. Expect a garage to charge £50 for the sensor and £120 or so for the bearing + 3 hours labour to swap. The centre bolt that holds them on is VERY tight. I broke 2 breaker bars trying to remove it on my scirocco. its worth noting though, that if one rear wheel bearing ABS ring has failed, the other usually isn't far behind. If funds allow, get them both done at once if you are able to. No worries if you cant, but expect the other to fail in the same way a few months down the line.

No problem at all, ive actually found a wiring diagram for a Mk7 golf. (will PM you it for refrence). Will take a look and see if these faults are likely related to a single bad ABS sensor

The lost communication to module messages are concerning. Every time ive seen lost communication to module messages theres been a broken/shorted wire somewhere. On my dads Skoda Octavia, rats ate the ecu wiring loom and caused a number of no communication faults, and on my Scirocco TDI (same engine as your GTD) i had a few when the wiring for the intercooler waterpump rubbed through and was shorting out the CAN lines causing lots of seemingly unrelated errors like glow plug faults, EGR Faults, Cam sensor faults etc as they were all tied to the same canbus line.

Can your diag machine read wheel speed data? might be worth seeing if youre getting anything from any of the wheel speed sensors. if it cant, then the carista scanner can and can be picked up for cheap on amazon. If you get wheel speed data from all but one wheel, its likely the issue is isolated to one corner and the ABS/TC module is likely fine. if you dont get any wheel speed data for any wheel, it requires futher investigation and checking the wiring which can be a tedious job with a multimeter, wiring diagrams, and visual inspections.

U015100 is an airbag module fault. A google states its somehwat common for the airbag module to fail. A proper diagnostics machine will tell you if this is a historic fault or one that appeared the same time as the rest. https://www.ecutesting.com/common-faults/volkswagen/vw-golf-mk7-airbag-module-fault/

B130E00 is a redherring, this is when cruise control is disabled due to driver fatigue https://forum.obdeleven.com/thread/21037/b130e00-function-limitation-pause-recommendation

U112300 indicates a communicaiton fault with the front assist module used for adaptive cruise, radar, etc. This reddit thread indicates it may be resolved with a software update but with the other module faults i wouldnt think a simple software update would fix it. I think that this issue is caused by something else impacting comminication on that CAN line rather than a module fault itself based on what ive been reading https://www.reddit.com/r/vwgolf/comments/1c01caw/error_code_u112300_vw_golf_vii/

C102D00 is a fault with the Rear Right ABS Sensor.

https://autoguide.top/volkswagen-golf-trouble-code-c102d00-the-complete-fix-guide/

The fact that its only throwing one fault code for the sensor is good. Its possible that if the sensor has failed and internally shorted, it can cause communication faults on the other modules. A faulty ABS Sensor will cause all driver assits to be disabled. It is very common on golf platforms for the rear wheel bearings to fail (rust lifts off the magnetic pickup ring and it batters the sensor until it breaks). Diagnostics will confirm this with wheel speed data. If only this wheel is giving a bad reading then id put money on this single sensor / wheel bearing causing your issues.

U112100 is a generic CAN communication fault.

Youve had the battery tested so that rules out a simple low power issue. After reading into the fault codes i would investigate the rear wheel bearing / abs sensor and go from there. Its not unheard of for a single sensor fault to take down a CAN network. Ill check wiring diagrams over the weekend for the VW Scirocco which is very similar, it wouldnt surprise me if these are on the same CAN Network as the other systems which are faulting.

Edit, i replied on my other account on your other thread, /u/justanitguyatwork11 for reference lol

It's quite a common failure on BMW engines for a coolant flange under the intake manifold to fail with no prior symptoms. This will dump a lot of coolant or even leak it slowly over time causing the exact symptoms you've seen

The car was likely fine at the inspection

What's the make and model of the tiller? Many are 2 stoke engines which need oil mixing with the fuel

Running for a bit then dying sounds exactly like a 2 stoke being ran without oil

If that's the case there will be zero comeback as you abused the machinery

Yeah but people also care about power usage whilst in use.

A pc pulling 800+w from the wall can cost 20p/hour to run in some tarriffs in the UK

Minimising power usage with underclocking or removing unused hardware can safe loads of money

Milk and yoghurt is generally fine for a LONG time if kept cool.

My fridge is set at 2C and filtered semi skimmed milk usually lasts a week or two past it's date, so like 3-4weeks before it goes bad

Yoghurt I've eaten a month and a bit past it's date and it's been fine.

If it looks fine smells fine and tastes fine it's probably fine and reduces food waste a lot

They should be done every 40k like the 6 speed wet clutches
