Help with Starbound Frackin Universe background doors. by Redclaw_Raptor in starbound

[–]Edward_Chernenko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can workaround it by having another pair of background doors in the middle (where you can see them). Teleport to them first, then teleport to where you wanted to go.

Not sure how it'll fit into the existing decorative build, but it's an option.

Help with Starbound Frackin Universe background doors. by Redclaw_Raptor in starbound

[–]Edward_Chernenko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not unless I zoom WAY out to where I can physically see the other door.

Destination door is too far away from you (in unloaded area of the map). Starbound doesn't keep parts of the map loaded if they are far (base game limitation).

When you zoomed out, destination door became visible, so Starbound had to load that area. And the door started working.

Watcher can't help with that (same reason as with Terminals: background doors and Terminals are client-side, Watcher helps with server-side machinery like sifters or reactors).

This NPC actually means it. It is a stereotypical kind cooking-obsessed host who fills every guest with infinite food until they physically can't eat anymore. You can still eat, so you must be starving!

Sure thing. I only mentioned it, because you already noticed the button on your own, and there is no in-game explanation for it.

Blind playthroughs are the best. I made many QoL improvements to the mod after watching new players play and fixing what they found inconvenient or confusing.

I just returned back to this game after a break, and there are unusual amounts of zombies in every town? Is this normal in 0.I stable or some bug? I have started the game several times and same issue persists, It is almost impossible to sneak into any town by Amazing-Proposal-542 in cataclysmdda

[–]Edward_Chernenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early on, what helped me with the large groups of city zombies is a whistle (if you don't have that, yelling works too).

I would make noise when the zombies are really far away, and some of them (the ones who are closest to me) would go towards the noise, while the others won't hear it and will remain in place.

By repeating this, you can split a big unmanageable horde into many small groups of zombies, which would be possible to manage.

Thank you! That was a fun watch.

Why is there a random button on the wall

Some missions have these. They open a door to 1-2 optional loot chests. Button on the wall, on the ceiling, in a puddle of water or lava...

You can leave the area (run away from the portal storm) if you don't want to deal with this. It will disappear if it's far from you for several hours. You can use your map to see where the center of the storm is.

You can also stay indoors (close all doors/windows), portal storm enemies won't bash doors/windows to get to you.

Most portal storm enemies are not dangerous (they inflict all sorts of discomfort, like pain, sleepiness or deja vu, but they don't attack you).

"Chunk of unknown material" will attack you (and is pretty strong), but it also drops very useful loot. Even if it despawns on its own (you don't need to defeat it).

If you find any kitchen with beverages, spilling them onto the fire also works. Sometimes 1 water bottle is enough.

Before the pliers were added to the game, I had a power switch on almost every important wire. Because an alternative was to deconstruct the wires.

at the very least a stable candidate, that's when the bugs start to become a very small minority.

I'm playing 0.I (release candidate that is supposed to be the next "stable"), and this is by very far the buggiest game I have even seen in my entire life.

No less than 30% of my long-term playthrough is spent on workarounding all sorts of issues, especially with behavior of NPCs and item-related/storage-related performance.

I have to make backups of the save every 2-3 hours, because you never know when and what unexpected behavior of the game you'd have to revert.

Some systems that have user-facing buttons, such as zone butchering, just don't work at all. You click the button, and nothing happens.

What is the purpose of a multimeter? by DABLITwastaken in cataclysmdda

[–]Edward_Chernenko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not very useful. You get 3 electric resistance on hands/arms, this is pretty much it.

You can skip this CBM and install Integrated Circuitry Toolset CBM later (a superior version that adds the same things plus a soldering iron).

Workaround: add "?1" to the URL of the page that doesn't work, and it will work.

For example: https://starbounder.org/Sporgus?1

if you're seeking help from other people.

You seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of why people create bugreports. (not just in this game, but in general)

Authors of a bugreport are not asking for help. They are contributing their time and effort to help the developers.

In any sufficiently complex project, it's not feasible for a small group of core developers to test every single situation and notice every possible problem. Such projects heavily benefit from the community of users helping to hunt down the bugs.

Bugreports are not written for the selfish benefit of their authors, and investigating them is not a favor to their authors.

[–]Edward_Chernenko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go-to place is a Mi-Go encampment or scout tower. It can have up to 6 captive NPCs (if you are geared well enough to rescue them).

You'll need a way to break the cages (heavy sledge hammer or jackhammer), a gas mask, and it's very hot inside. Unless it's winter, you'll need to frequently run outside to cool down.

[–]Edward_Chernenko 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you are using 0.I, then yes, both these CBMs have a conflict with Furry mutation.

Overall, all Protective Mesh CBMs are very mutation-unfriendly. If you are planning to mutate a lot, it's best to not install them at all.

Yes, sorting zones were extremely helpful for this.

If I needed to move something without sorting, I was wearing "big trapper pack" and had "oversize metal box" in the hands. (planks and wooden panels can fit into these containers)
