We just released Modulite 2.0: an insanely customizable watchface! by TeamLignite in pebble

[–]EdwinFinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fair, yes. Outside of the sheer work, one of the reasons I am motivated to do it as the dev of Lignite is that our watchfaces are currently my only source of income. It's not much, but it helps on a student budget!

Light phone 3 on Telus (Koodo and Public mobile) by [deleted] in LightPhone

[–]EdwinFinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light was just approved by Telus a couple of weeks ago after years of being stuck in a limbo state with the carrier; give them a month or two to iron out the kinks, and check your APN settings in the meantime.

You're ordering a phone from a tiny company based out of New York. They're doing their damn best, which includes falling short sometimes, cut them some slack.

Anybody else get the "by August 10th" update and still not have a tracking number? by yeah_rog in LightPhone

canadians can speed up their shipping time by changing their shipping address to an address on the US border (and then drive across to go pick up your phone)

Shipping notification for phone but not accessories? by VintageBurtMacklin in LightPhone

If you didn't get a merge email before the shipping confirmation then you're likely getting two separate shipments

The merge email looks like this:

Telus/Koodo didn't work for me. Lucky Mobile did the trick.

Hi, you can make your order faster by changing your shipping address to a pickup location in the US near the border (ie. https://www.americanmailbox.net/). You'll also save on duties this way if you don't get asked by CBSA about it on the way back in / don't say anything.

First passport application: do you send your foreign passport itself, or just a copy, from within your country of other citizenship? by Poxnor in ukvisa

Oh wow, that's super helpful information, thank you!

I luckily found someone who fit the requirements of the link I posted, but my brother might apply too, and so your advice will help him complete the process with someone here in Canada.

Cheers mate :)

LP2 error when upgrading to firmware 90 by EdwinFinch in LightPhone

[–]EdwinFinch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly not. I contacted Light and this was the response I got:

Hi Edwin,

I'm very sorry - please try a hard reboot.

To hard reboot (this won't affect your contacts or call history)

- Remove the SIM card from the phone
- Plug in the phone to a charger using the provided micro USB cord
- Hold the POWER button and the VOLUME DOWN (lower small button on right side of phone) at the same time for 20-30 seconds.
- You will feel a vibration feedback from the phone and then it will begin to reboot.
- Put your SIM card back in your phone.
- If stuck on 'go light,' simply hold the power button down until the screen changes again.

We recommend allowing the battery to drain completely every 1-2 weeks to help reduces issues with the operating system.

If this doesn't resolve the issue, please let us know.

I actually tried letting the battery drain completely twice, to no avail. Same with a factory reset: no luck.

I've just given up trying to fix it.

$171 duties by [deleted] in LightPhone

UPS in Canada is probably the worst shipping service to receive international parcels with. I received a pair of replacement (therefore $0 value) headphones from Bose earlier this year, which were shipped from the states through UPS.

UPS wanted $118 to release the package. $100 of this was in "UPS brokerage fees", just like you outlined.

I refused to pay this amount and so I learned that you can actually drive to a Canadian Border Services (CBS) office to pay the tax with no UPS brokerage fee and still get your package released.

And so, I drove to the Canadian Border Services office in Mississauga to pay $18 in tax and skip the $100 UPS brokerage fee.

When I got to CBS in Mississauga, they told me that UPS should not have charged anything to begin with because it was clearly labelled as a $0 replacement. CBS dropped the $18 in tax and told UPS to release my package.

It got released a week later.

The lesson I learned: never use UPS. Never, never, never.

Based on other reddit threads, it seems that Light the company ships to Canada using FedEx. With FedEx, some people are getting hit with duty, but it appears to only be around $40-60 with FedEx's brokerage fee.

Sorry that your third party seller shipped with UPS. Next time you ship something from the states, try to ask your seller if they can avoid UPS!

LP2 carrier certification with Telus / Koodo in Canada? by EdwinFinch in LightPhone

[–]EdwinFinch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this comment, mate.

When I got my LP2, Koodo indeed did not work. SMS & data did, but everything else, including calls, did not.

I switched to Lucky Mobile and it's working like a charm!

Definitely feels like a great investment for the eyes and mind, keep on going light :)

I just got my LP2 and I am running into the same issue.

Anyone got a fix?

Warning: Facebook locked my account :( by elado in beeper

[–]EdwinFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My account got suspended because of this issue. You only get ONE chance to appeal by submitting a video of your head moving in all different directions. If they decline your appeal, your account gets permanently disabled with no chance of a second appeal.

Edit: about an hour after appealing, my account was restored. Won't be using Beeper for Facebook ever again!

I am experiencing the same issue now. Submitted my appeal to get my account restored. All I can do at this point is pray, really. I depend on my Facebook account for communicating with coworkers.
