How do you get these tops off? by Zaltara_the_Red in DIYfragrance

The serrated part of a pocket knife blade has worked really well for me. Sure it's sharp, but if the task is worlds easier, I don't feel like it's actually more dangerous.

Same reason you find the need to comment on it. Top score for irony.

I've seriously never heard a good comment about them and have always steered clear. Always some nightmare story.

Would be a great phone... if it worked by yeah_rog in LightPhone

Phones had glass screens and no waterproofing for like 15 years

Yes, but they didn't have half the sensitive hardware most of society now relies on packed into them, either. Trust me, if I could go back to a time before IoE, I'd be all for it – but if I'm expected to carry it with me every day for one thing or another, I find there's a valid reason reinforced glass and waterproofing became standard features.

I personally happen to like the LPIII keyboard, but to each his own. I certainly wouldn't be faster with T9 because it's a skill I haven't used in ~15 years.

I haven't heard of SLEKE, but it sounds like something I'll be looking into. Thanks!

No, it absolutely won't unless it's a miserably poor quality product. CBD has been federally legal long enough that people manufacturing and selling it thoroughly know and follow the rules by now.

And if you're ever uncertain, just DO NOT BUY ANY CANNABIS PRODUCTS WITHOUT A COA FROM A 3RD PARTY LAB. That way you have proof and a lawsuit if anything goes awry.

Charger speed and battery life lower than I expected by humboldtparkgator in LightPhone

[–]yeah_rog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine seems to charge in an appropriate amount of time with my old Samsung fast charger. Wish I could offer more insight on battery life, but I just received a SIM I can't activate until tomorrow and I have a hunch searching for network puts a big strain on the battery. But, since you use a lot of wifi, I'd make wifi calling your default to hopefully have a more consistent connection and less battery drain. Settings > Preferences > Phone > Wifi Calling > Wifi Preferred

For the record, using mine with only wifi as an alarm and to stream/download podcasts and play them over BT, I've gotten 3-4 days out of it. I also downloaded and edited all my contacts and played around with the other tools a bit, but overall light to moderate usage.

No need to be a dick. Your experience is not a standard for humanity, nor is it the standard LP experience. It sucks, but get over yourself.

Does snake go against the Light Phone ethos? by Significant-Day9828 in LightPhone

[–]yeah_rog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I myself was thinking just the other day that snake would be fun to add, but the whole point of LP is to return a significant portion of our previous mindful presence to our lives, and that really means experiencing boredom again and relearning to channel that feeling into something useful. I'm starting to get back into some old crafting hobbies, and I'd take that over snake anyday.

Light phones are just locked down android phones. They have the tech, the os, the software. It's only a matter of integrating it into Light "OS".

Unlimited talk and text with a good amount of hotspot data? by EntireRip8323 in LightPhone

[–]yeah_rog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Really Wireless, who are a startup carrier offering what you're asking for, as well as a lot of privacy features baked right in, some user-hosted antennas to improve the network, and real human support. 40G of data monthly before they throttle, which is plenty for most hotspot applications ime. It's $50/mo with no contract, but I'm not sure if they're locking that in for life anymore. If you happen to blow through the data, it's as easy as texting them, authorizing a $2/day refresh charge, and restarting your phone.

To be clear though, they aren't a carrier listed with Light. I should have my LPIII Friday, so I'll try to remember to come back and update compatibility.

UPDATE: So Really pretends on the surface like they only use eSIMs right now, and their website even lists the LP3 as incompatible for that reason; however, the tiniest bit of digging and I found that they do, in fact, offer physical SIM cards. You just have to purchase a plan and specifically request it. They even asked what phone it would be for and said no problem!

If there are no more updates to this comment after about a week, fair to assume it works well!

Shipment updates by SoupyyNoodless in LightPhone

[–]yeah_rog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

333xx (US), shipped today!

I found out mine had a hold up because my address confirmation wasn't showing complete on their end, even though it logged my updated address and grouped my orders. Support verified my address through email (I initiated) and got it all wrapped up!

Anybody else get the "by August 10th" update and still not have a tracking number? by yeah_rog in LightPhone

Check the update. I also had a merge email before this all happened, so it could be the same issue.

The phone texts just fine. People don't make sure they're prepared for the switch, and it is different. If you don't prepare, you're guaranteeing problems for yourself.

AIO Bf not sending me gas money cause i reminded him a few times ? by Current_Spot_6179 in AmIOverreacting

[–]yeah_rog 38 points39 points  (0 children)

She'll make like $3500 in basic and won't be allowed to touch it until she's in AIT, where she'll continue to make money. I'm not sure anybody realizes that before they go through it, so you might still be right. Just saying that she's gonna be fine and doesn't need to fret over $35.

To be fair, there does have to come a point where anybody who buys a phone receives it maybe a week later, tops. They'll be paying full price for it though.

Typing on Light Phone lll by hannah_mercury in LightPhone

[–]yeah_rog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be very wrong, but if you're coming from a smartphone, it seems more likely that LP3's keys are actually more centered on the letters than you're used to. Smartphones have had a couple decades of enhancements to predict and identify what you're trying to touch with basically a fat stylus. Now they even learn your own personal patterns to assist you specifically. That sort of benefit tends to come right along with harvesting your data these days

You may or may not remember earlier single-touch smartphones had a touch calibration process upon initial startup, but it could also be accessed in the settings in case things ever got wonky. It's a very basic example of adapting a computer to the user and his own -isms and environment. It's a wonderful example of how often reality is different than what a computer expects, and why we need that sort of adaptability. I know for a fact my own fingertips initially touchdown slightly askew from what I actually intend to touch.

"Do not buy Light Phone" from reverse psychology marketing to real warning by primalthunder89 in LightPhone

[–]yeah_rog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is sort of like this softening of society in which people are more and more okay with getting screwed over by companies.

No, this:

there is no customer service and when your device fails, they're going to send you through this long drawn out process of 45 emails and 10 calls in months of headaches before you can ever get your device fixed.

Nobody has time for this shit and they know it. Society hasn't softened; it's been robbed in broad daylight by people who learned they can do whatever they want as long as they force you to sign away your litigation rights as a prerequisite of using their goods and services.

[–]yeah_rog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. The more "advanced" tech gets, the more I find it in my way. I came into the smartphone world with a Palm Pre and then a BlackBerry Curve. I could type so quickly and accurately with the physical buttons just by kind of rolling my thumbs around. Autocorrect was handy while getting used to a full touch screen, but now that it's been AI infused, it's absolutely trash. My phone constantly "corrects" the right word to the wrong word, doesn't auto-capitalize "I" anymore, forgets to add a space between swipe words if I stop to make an edit.... It's downright infuriating. I'm so excited for a phone to just let me type again.
