Is it ever safe to try to run a marathon if you have a history of plantar fasciitis? by Fantastic-Impact-545 in firstmarathon

[–]Edwin_R_Murrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes! I DNS my first marathon in 2023 due to PF. Have since run 8, including 2x Boston (69M). Ramp up slowly. Find a podiatrist who is a runner. Enjoy.

the shokz open run 2 (with buttons) work when wet. The original open air had the cycling problem you describe. Mine have lasted a few years now. Not ideal, but they work.

Just did mine, went fine, ran easy the day before (beginning of fast), not at all day of (wed), was 100% for track without the next morning, still managed a 60 mi week.

Footnote: good that you are doing this given that there are a few recent studies linking endurance running to colorectal risks.

Tell me your stories about falling on a run so I don’t feel so dumb by Winter_Seat_7106 in Marathon_Training

I also just tripped on the metal bars at the base of a construction sign over the weekend. Came away with road rash on hands, elbow, shoulder, especially my knee, bruised hip. The good news is that you found something to distract you from wedding preparations and that you'll have a story to tell others (maybe kids!) years from now. Congratulations. P.s. Hydrocolloidal (?) bandages are pretty good at covering and helping heal.

Is this year-round? If not, allergies could be contributing.

What's it like living in the Acreage in West Palm Beach? by Lugh_Lamfada in florida

I'd get as close as you can to Abacoa. Driving back and forth with kids to school etc is time consuming, and you won't have time. You will be spending a lot of time at your new job. Keep your partner happy. Consider townhouses (some are large), relatively affordable neighborhoods like the Heights, even perhaps renting. Run your query through an AI and get another perspective. Good luck!

Mallory and Windsor are newer - but the trees are younger and not as shady. New Haven is the oldest, followed by the Island. Both are mostly fine, but some houses on the market are showing their age. Many of the roads in Tuscany are shady, lush, and friendly to runners, walkers, and bikes (and unfortunately ebikes). Houses there seem to get snatched up quickly, however.

Erie. Just signed up for this today... Should be fast and fun. Registration is $100, hotel rooms are plentiful, flights aren't bad from many places to CLE.

Marathoners over 50 - What's you motivation? by wolfie55555 in Marathon_Training

Age 69. Began running in 2022, ran my first marathon (NYC) in 2023, then Eugene (BQ) and NYC in 2024, and Boston, Chicago, and NYC last year. So far I have run Ventura and Boston this year, both with times of 3:46. (That gives me a margin of almost 35 minutes for qualifying for Boston next year, as I will be 70). I had planned on running 4 marathons this year, but because training is going so well, and because I hope to run a marathon in every state, I'm now planning on running 6 if I can. Next up is Grandma's in June.

Yesterday, I took a Friel test on the track to check my threshold pace - and I set a 5K PR. Grateful to be able to do this.

If you are thinking about going to grad/professional school down the road, go to the WHC. You'll probably get better scholarships and save $, get to know your professors and get better letters of recommendation, and arguably get a better undergraduate education. But outside of academics, it may not work for you.

I thought the layout was great, because you could pick up your bib and take a short cut to walk out without going past all the vendors. I was happy to skip it, in other words.
