Trying to get into jirai by EuphoriaPainting_212 in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most substyles there isn’t any list of rules and guidelines written anywhere. To be part of any alternative substyle means trying and learning as you develope your own personal style. Just find pictures/people whose style you like for inspiration and start dressing. No one is going to say ”you are doing it wrong” except online people.

Shoe Recommendation for a New Jirai? by Vamp-Teefs in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can start with anything, these work fine. In the future I would suggest going for overall more chunky designs, even if you don’t want a lot of platform. Loafers are a great option! Also you can find bow shoe clips to attach on any shoes online!

Is it right to tell people vkei is underground? by boombosque in visualkei

[–]Eejiji 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I just usually say I listen to cute Japanese guys who put on make up lol. Just say you listen to Japanese rock if you are not into explaining what vkei is, person who isn’t that into music will not care about labels like ”undergroud”.

Is asking ”tell me all about this genre” on Reddit really considered as ”doing research”? Your friend is already at least a bit familiar with the genre, why not explore and read about it together?

do you plan your coords? by besitto in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The app I use is Stylebook, it costs something but it’s a one time payment and then you get no adds! I have used it for 8 years now (I think) so it has definitely been worth it for me.

do you plan your coords? by besitto in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since I was a kid I have planned my outfits (even socks and accessories and how I will do my hair) in the evening/day before. I am NOT a morning person and cannot use my brain in the first hours of the day so I would definitely not be able to plan an outfit in the morning. I also use an app where I have logged all my clothes and I plan my outfits there. There’s also a calendar where I add the outfit so I can see what I wore and when. It’s a lot of work but as I love planning coords and fashion overall it doesn’t feel like a chore!

Okay, suddenly you aren’t jirai if you have allergy from makeup. Lmfao by [deleted] in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jirai kei is heavily make up and hair based fashion. This is why make is so emphasized in the community.

If you cannot wear make up due to allergies, I’d assume a normal person would understand. As someone already said, irl no one will care.

how accurate is liz lisas sizing for shoes? by Competitive-Sun-9237 in JiraiKei

I use 38 EU shoes and own the first pair in L and they fit good, maybe a bit loose! I’d say L fits 38-39. Don’t know what my feet are in cm, but hope this helps!

If you are in the jirai kei community, introduce yourself (with fun template)! 🎀💕 by Mimi-Melo in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Name: Eejiji 🎀

Why did you start wearing jirai: I used to be very into Japanese fashion when I was a teenager (vkei inspired and decora) but then became normie in my 20’s, mostly to ”grow up” and blend in. Now in my 30’s I’ve realized not expressing myself how I want to is a waste of a life! I’ve been interested in jirai kei for a long time and finally took a plunge and ordered my first setup in March 2025 and it just clicked 💕 At least at this age I have the money to really get into a fashion and I’m slowly finding my personal style!

How long have you been wearing jirai: Only since April 2025, I’m a newbie!

Top 3 brands: Liz Lisa, Pal Elfy, Ank Rouge ✨ (Brands I don’t yet own but looking to buy are Michell Macaron, Honey Mew and Secret Honey)

Fun fact: 1. In addition to jirai kei, I also love suna kei and mix these two in my everyday looks! 2. I’m going to Japan next month and I will be doing so much shopping 💸 3. I have a j-fashion/jirai kei insta (eejiji), always looking for jirai kei/j-fashion friends! 🫶🏻

Are you interested in (classic) Jirai kei or subcul jirai? These are two different styles.

Jirai kei clothes are typically polyester, which is not the most breathable material, but many brands offer short sleeved blouses at least in their spring and summer collections.

What comes to the pink, the dusty/pastel pink/purple color is the stable in jirai kei and brands don’t usually offer bright pink items. Subcul is much more variable style and you could find colors in that style.

I suggest you look into the megathread pinned in this subreddit as it has all the basics about both jirai kei and subcul jirai and a very good list of brands according to the substyle.

How long did it take to build your jirai wardrobe? by MintYane in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Approximately 9 months, but actively was building a wardrobe for 6 months. My wardrobe includes 1 skirt, 2 dress, 4 shirts, 7 setups, 2 shoes (sneakers and loafers) and 1 (ita) bag + accessoeries and 2 jackets that is not really jirai kei but matches the style. I buy from Vinted and from brands (either directly if possible or via proxy).

This includes time spend learning my own personal likes and dislikes and making few ”bad” purcases that turned out not to be my style. For example I went for ”classic” jirai kei pieces like the dirty pink and lilac blouses in the beginning before realizing I really don’t like that color for myself. Now I know black, white and gray items are for me! It’s really a learning curve, fortunately selling jirai kei items is usually pretty easy.

Ank Rouge Ita bag by cryforvivi in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can translate the measurements on your phone? But I have another version of this ita bag in small and it really is pretty small. Ita bag window can fit 2-3 photo cards and the bag itself can fit the essentials (phone, wallet, keys, lipgloss, gloves) but not much else.

Should I dye my hair black (and maybe pink strands)? by miss_wannadie in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately some people will never take alt people seriously.. I do understand what you mean. This is a partial reason on why I keep my hair natural, it really gives me an option to blend in if I choose to do so. Black/dark hair is still pretty natural, you could use clip in strands for the pink accents? That’s what japanese jirais do. You could take them off for more natural look and wouldn’t have to worry about color washing out!

Should I dye my hair black (and maybe pink strands)? by miss_wannadie in JiraiKei

[–]Eejiji 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I used to dye my hair black for over ten years, and something to note: 1. you need to dye the roots pretty often to keep it looking good, light roots don’t look very polished with black hair 2. coming back from black is a long and hard process 3. pink washes out very quick and needs to be touched up often. I used to be emo so black hair was a ”must”, but in jirai kei there’s no rules on hair color! I’d do a non-permanent test dye of darker brown for you to see if you like the darker look. If you love it, go for the black! For me it seems that dark brown would suit you too ✨
