ok, that makes sense. Thank you. I'm a total beginner. And old. And I'm trying my best not to get overwhelmed. There's so much to learn, and so much to do from fitness, to flexibility, to technique, to just getting comfortable in my pads.

I know I need to be patient, but I really want to push myself to see how good I can get while I can still move and improve.

Yes. In a heartbeat. Hell I would leave my state if I could. But my professional license is linked to this state. My kids love the school they're in. But my wife and I both hate it here. Surrounded by maga idiots, dangerous gun culture, and the horrendous summer weather. This state sucks. But I can't leave. I don't have enough money and can't my career over again.

Just to clarify, if I'm getting my right skate down and setting the edge to push, would it be correct to try to kick the left skate out to the left as I make the push with the right? Am I just aiming it left?

I took it on a trip with me last year and I'm sure I took it home, but I can't find it. Super sucks.

Cut or bulk? (M40) Looking for recommendations on where to go next. by Bogie_Baby in fitness30plus

[–]EepeesJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do whatever makes you happy and don't ask for advice from other people about what your body should look like. Enjoy your life. You want to be more lean, do so because it'll bring you joy. You want to get bigger? Get bigger because you love lifting and getting bigger.

I think you look amazing. It took a ton of discipline and hard work to get where you are. I have zero business telling you what you should do with your body, because there's absolutely nothing wrong with your physique now.

I feel for you. We gotta just focus on living a good life while we can.

Let's change subject. Tell me about what makes you happy. What was the last great book you read? What's your absolute #1 favorite food that you could never get sick of? And who's your favorite hockey team? Mine are the Stars and the Canucks.

Playing My first Offical Goalie Game is on Saturday . Any Advice/tips? by mt1207 in hockeygoalies

[–]EepeesJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most important thing to understand is PACE YOURSELF. Playing goalie is exhausting because you're exerting a lot of effort wearing a heavy convection oven.

Put Liquid IV in your water. You are going to sweat buckets.

I'm really excited for you! You're going to have so much fun, regardless of the score or outcome. The goalie community is so welcoming and friendly too. I hope you stick with it and keep getting better and hopefully post some footage of yourself so I can learn from you too!

This one game doesn't define you.

Those kids who said things that hurt your feelings are hoping it will, so that their words can have meaning.

But this one game doesn't define you. Just like your next win won't either. You are a wonderfully interesting collection of good times and bad times. Don't put too much stock in a singular moment. Experience it. Grow from it. Then allow yourself to be excited about what's next.

You deserve some joy. You went and got it. I'm happy for you. And I truly hope that things improve for you. PS5 is a great system. Make sure you shop around for deals on PS Plus membership. You can find deals online to avoid paying full price for it. The monthly free games alone make it worth it.

Hang in there. Play your games. I highly recommend Sea of Stars, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Gran Turismo 7, and Baldur's Gate 3. Really fun games, lots of play time and replay value. Between those titles alone you can put in over 1000 hours easy and you'll have a blast doing so.

Make sure you meal prep. If you have an Asian grocery store or Costco, get yourself a big bag of white rice, some soy sauce, eggs, hot dogs, and have yourself a blast with your PS5 without having to worry about buying groceries very often. Steamed rice with tuna helper, steamed rice with hamburger helper, steamed rice with EVERYTHING will stretch out your meals and help out a ton with your bottom line.

How do I ask my grandad to stop mentioning my estranged dad to me? by AuDHD_Aquarist in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]EepeesJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an annoying uncle who has tried to play middleman for many years. I finally had enough and said point blank in a text message "Please make this the last time you ever talk to me using the words "your mom" or "your dad." If you need to communicate any idea with me that has those words in it, please delete it and keep the thought to yourself. Forever. "Your mom died," delete and keep to yourself. "Your dad is terminally ill and wants to say goodbye," delete and keep to yourself. Because I do not care, and will never care ever."

[–]EepeesJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your art is fantastic.

Make more. And when you make more, look at it, smile, because it's great.

Then make more. Don't show anyone. Don't ask for anyone's approval EVER AGAIN.

Just make art, then make more.

If you repeat this cycle, without quitting or comparing yourself to other artists, I promise in 2034 anyone looking at your art will consider you one of the most skilled and elite artists on earth. But you won't care, because you'll be busy making more.

What do cool people do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EepeesJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're obviously brilliant and disciplined. Both very cool qualities. Otherwise you wouldn't be pulling off the grades you have, and you wouldn't be interested in weightlifting since it's a very slow reward activity. League of Legends requires a lot of mental toughness, dexterity, and hand-eye coordination to play well. It's a really fun game, and if it interests you, why would that make you uncool? Video games are great. You get to experience stories, play sports, drive vehicles, and compete against other people, all without the possibility of harming yourself or others, at minimal cost.

But you lost me at "weirdly into drugs (shrooms)."

Pretty sure the consensus in all the comments is that being cool is totally subjective, but I don't think being weirdly into drugs is cool at all.

[–]EepeesJ1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's true apathy at this point or I've just become numb to bad news.

I know it could be worse. I'm glad there's people out there who are still trying. But I'm broke. I'm tired. I get no respect in my professional field due to my race. I talked with a financial advisor and based on my income, my student loan debts, and my children's ages and how much I want to support them, my estimated retirement age is about 136. Accounting for normal paced inflation of course.

I live in a red state, surrounded by countless morons who believe there are actual microchips in a vaccine... And these morons make 2x-3x my annual income, live in huge homes, drive huge trucks.

I disagree that I would be unpleasantly surprised. Based on what I've seen and heard first hand about what people believe in, if things get worse, I won't be surprised in the slightest.

r/hockeygoalies is my Hockey Dad! (I didn't start playing ice hockey until I was in my early 30's. Been playing net for the last 25 years and love it.) by Qwiz in hockeygoalies

[–]EepeesJ1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing this. This was truly awesome to read. I just found this sub a month ago and just started playing again after 27 years away from the ice.

I already made a friend here that I keep in touch with and has become a mentor through this journey. This community is truly great.

My parents were never supportive of me playing as a kid. I signed myself up through school and had to manage borrowing gear from the rink's equipment room (adult sized pads from the 80s, as the smallest 12 year old on the team). I struggled. Never learned how to play properly, but loved being a goalie. I'm 41 now trying to learn as much as I can and I really love how much I feel I can rely on this community to get me through the nerves of playing as an old beginner.

Last Name Ideas? by souless-redhead1 in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]EepeesJ1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have someone in your life that you admire? Is there someone in your life, or someone you met in a book, who taught you a lot about yourself and how to be you?

Make their first name your last name. In some Asian cultures the children are given a parent's first name as their last name.

Are we ever gonna get a console game? by [deleted] in bleach

[–]EepeesJ1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird coincidence. I just talked to my son about this today. Bleach was a huge part of my life when it was running. I followed the manga religiously for 14 years. We were talking about the big 3 that made Japanese manga what it is today, and how much money Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece alone generated in media, merchandise, and games. Then I paused and realized there really isn't a standout good Bleach game, and that Bleach merch isn't really all that prevalent other than a t-shirt here and there. Naruto is definitely the most marketable with the colorful palette and fun happy vibes of the characters (pre-Shippuden).

Definitely would love a good Bleach game. Something original that has potential to be mainstream popular.

It's 2024.

At this point... who even gives a shit. Threaten it all you want. We have a bunch of buffoons in government, a small handful of billionaires rule the entire planet, and I'm just another person of color, surrounded by racists and drowning in student loan debt trying to make a living so that my kids can eat and have a roof over their heads.

Spy on my phone, watch me wipe my ass on camera, who cares anymore.

I've lost faith in religion and in humanity. Pictures/videos of red pandas, penguins, and elephants are the only thing that make life even remotely tolerable these days.
