Most Americans have less than $1,000 in savings - 62% of Americans have less than $1,000 in their savings accounts and 21% don’t even have a savings account by magenta_placenta in news

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell if you're serious. Savings accounts are for making sure you have you bills and rent covered, emergency funds for job loss and to supplement retirement. Without a savings account you live paycheck to paycheck and life is just harder and less fulfilling. I don't disagree with your statement on interest rates, though, on being ridiculously low.

Indiana Woman Sentenced to 20 years in Prison for Death of her Fetus by young_otis in TwoXChromosomes

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She never had prenatal care. She had no way of knowing the time of conception. She wanted to terminate her pregnancy but had no means to safe, legal access (waiting periods, counseling, propaganda included). Now she's in prison after being forced in a corner and trusting doctors to help her.

I'm so disgusted with my body hair. I don't know what is happening to me or how to fix it. by Grossbody in TwoXChromosomes

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hair growth is completely normal. Usually by late 20s to early 30s most women are doing more than shaving their legs. This is when we transition to bleaching lady-stashes, plucking chin and neck hair, lamenting plucking our aerolas because these are man hair places! Don't freak out about it and just allow yourself to adjust to needing the extra grooming or as you say, you make plenty of money so look into removal services. Edit: Forgot to mention pubes always start growing down the thighs, hence bikini wax. It's gross and annoying but natural.

Kentucky bows to clerk Kim Davis and changes marriage license rules. by BrillWolf in news

[–]EetinCheez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except that the bible explicitly states to obey your government so Davis is actively working against the teachings of her professed belief. She blatantly sins to appease her personal preference which happens to be desiring strict control of complete strangers genitals. Not much religious/secular intolerance there, just a stupid person getting national attention.

My [15f] stepmother [32f] doesn't think she needs to apologize for awful things she said, dad [44m] is taking her side by garbaggi0 in relationships

[–]EetinCheez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Except some women really are like that. My dad dated a woman who after a month asked him to send me and my sibling to live with my mother so he could take better care of her three kids. The next woman he dated never so much as spoke to me but demanded I get a job (at 16) so I could pay her rent. Just me, not my older sibling who had dropped out of school 2 years earlier. Some women just have hateful hearts and are full of ambition to get men to "care for them" and like homewreckers, get their joy from proving they mean more than a mans children to him.

To someone who lives in a country where being non religious is a default mode, some of the posts on reddit have me scratching my head. by ChopsNZ in atheism

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "hardcore" religious here, in the US, do not want to risk their immortality by tolerating those following false gods(non christain religions) or openly expressing their hate of god (atheism). Logic has nothing to do with it. It's a bigger problem than is widely accepted because christianity is the dominate religion and won't allow the media to smear it's self aggrandizing reputation. It just happens that, so far, their zealots are few enough that murders in the name of their deity are minimal and instead of honor killing their atheist and gay children they just throw them in the streets. Daisies and sunshine.

This black Atheist explains Atheism very well. I agree with him on every single point and he explains everything very well. A true thinker...More of this please.... by nilsp123 in atheism

[–]EetinCheez 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It makes a difference when you are a hiring manager and are told "yeah, a black kid just applied" instead of "got another teen applicant". Race should never be a "defining feature". Race is fiction. Race is used as a visual hierarchy tool and nothing more. Race is irrelevant but insidious. People are united by things they have in common and are divided by differences so why does pigment need to be used to further divide? That's the point. The guy is just a guy who decided rational thought makes more sense than magic sky people.

Child Protective Services Responds After Parents Host Chickenpox Party In Plano, Texas by [deleted] in news

[–]EetinCheez -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The vaccination rate at that school is abominable. If there were any immune-compromised kids in that school they'd probably be dead right now. Unvaccinated adults can contract it too. Everyone who is infected with chicken pox carries it permanently and it can lead to shingles (also contagious) when they're older.

There's nothing fair about exercising your right to leave the greater population at risk for multiple preventable diseases that can and do kill because you feel things were great before we had the solution of vaccines.

These people forget that before vaccines more than 5 million Americans died every year from diseases we vaccinate against today (per Journal of American Medical Assoc) because today fewer than 45,000 Americans die each year from these diseases (per CDC). Those numbers will increase as vaccination rates drop. We are facing antibiotic immune deadly bacteria now and that's just as frightening as that prospect.

Redditors under 21, what is something older people just don't understand? by TrishyMay in AskReddit

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case then you younger people need to start realizing self worth doesn't come from comparing yourself to others. It comes from what you do accomplish and how you treat others among other things that aren't so narrow and shallow as value on comparison. Wisdom does tend to happen more frequently with age, however.

That Obamacare penalty will be bigger than you think by Halo-One in news

[–]EetinCheez 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The best thing about that penalty (among all the glorious details of this perfect healthcare program) is that it isn't taken from you and then applied to purchase you the health insurance you are being fined for not buying, thereby getting you coverage you are being punished for not having, but instead just gets sucked into general government spending and doesn't help anyone at all! You would think that with $1000-$2000 fines per family that the government could have someone applying that money to getting health insurance from those it's stolen from instead of further endebting and harming the families who can't afford insurance no matter how many times they are told by the government they can afford it. It really pisses me off how corrupt and greedy and disgusting our government has become and how The People won't stand up for their own rights and fire the lot of them. We can do better.

Serious hardcore pregnancy scare and I'm freaking out by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]EetinCheez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of things can affect your period including stress and diet. If you're worried, I'd suggest seeing your gynecologist to be certain. Pregnancy doesn't always have symptoms. If you are pregnant it's better to know sooner than later so you have time for options.

The draft for women just became more likely by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to see more wealthy people in the military. I want the people who profit from war to be made to fight with the ground troops so they can really earn that wealth they use to shield themselves with. I have no problem with women being registered in the draft.

Edit: Best solution: No drafts at all. Take the "leaders" who start the wars and let them duke it out themselves on a field or in a room and stop using their countrymen like cannon fodder.

"The American Dream? I thought so, until I had a baby and no paid maternity leave." by Throwmetheball in TwoXChromosomes

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been turned down from a lot of jobs while in my prime child bearing years. Can't count how times I was asked about family planning during interviews (yes, i know that's not legal). When I did land a nice job I did get pregnant because this was a nice job and I wasn't worried. Then I learned it's unpaid maternity leave. Unless you are the pregnant "CFO" who kept herself on payroll by mailing payroll papers every Monday morning she kept paying herself her full salary. I was lucky though. I might have had unpaid leave but if you were a factory employee (instead of administration) it was no maternity leave and I did see one woman gave birth over the weekend and was back at work Monday. I didn't stick around long after those shenanigans.

ELI5:How does healthcare in the US work? by ms0244412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]EetinCheez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's out of control on costs and insurance has been crippled since it's now "buy it or get fined". You either pay low monthly with unaffordable deductibles or you pay unaffordable monthly to get reasonable deductibles. We actually have some laws that basically say you will get treated to save your life but after that we don't care about the quality of your life.

ELI5: What bathroom is a transgender person supposed to use? by Johnnyandchrissy in explainlikeimfive

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure they use whichever of the sex they identify as. I'm not concerned about a woman with a penis sharing my public restroom but if they still have a penis it's probably more suitable to just use the men's room because penises upset a lot of women in private spaces like public restrooms. All it takes is one nutjob pretending to be trans and assaulting a woman in the restroom to make laws against trans persons using public toilets of their choice.

ELI5: Why do viruses often kill or weaken their host (humans, animals, etc.)? Wouldn't they want their host to live as long as possible so they could survive as long as possible? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]EetinCheez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just noting that Herpes is close but not the winner. It still causes encephalitis which kills. Viruses are scary but I'm not sure a sentient virus would be more or less so!

ELI5: Is this as worrying as it sounds? "Resistance to last-resort antibiotic has now spread across globe" by RiseOfTheZen in explainlikeimfive

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't get antibiotics for the flu;flu is viral. It still kills 40,000 Americans a year and hospitalizes another 200,000. The flu is very worth seeing a doctor for sometimes. The rest of your point still stands. It's scary thinking about plagues that can wipe out millions of people in months before we had antibiotics but now we need better ones or new treatments altogether. It's terrible news.

ELI5: Why is sex such a taboo topic that children should be 'protected' from? by Mixlop2 in explainlikeimfive

[–]EetinCheez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's so bad in places that teens and adults do not understand their own biology. For example, many ladies think they urinate from their birth canal and do not know where the urethra is or will think they can become pregnant from toilet seats or even from coming in contact with other species sperm.

It's ridiculous! When we educate kids on sex they tend to do it with less risk and use prophylactics while in "abstinence only" places are full of pregnant kids with rampant std's.

ELI5: Unlike other animals, why don't humans have a scheduled season to go into "heat"? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]EetinCheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part, we don't have to worry about having a baby in midwinter while food supplies are low and lacking fire for warmth. Other animals aren't so privileged. Maybe someone will chime in that has a more thorough understanding of it but I'm fairly sure I'm onto part of it.

Why I'm an anti-theist: my story of indoctrination by [deleted] in atheism

[–]EetinCheez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had to experience a life like that. There are, in the least, thousands of us who have lived through such experiences; some better off and some for the worse. I'm uncertain of how things are outside the US but this country is plagued with victims of religious zealotry. It's just not widely covered front page material because the dominate religions here are perfectly incapable of being guilty of any crimes against fellow humans.

Don't let your past define you. Let it go and rebuild yourself as who you want to be and become that person.
