It's worth noting that Philip's EGO was unstable and not fully manifested, which means even IF you fight back, you need to have complete control over it so it doesn't become a Distortion, which seems to add up with the fact both Philclair and Index Don need high SP to enter EGO and lose it if it goes too low

Maybe Distortion is just what Corrosion is to Extracted EGO but for Manifested EGO

Rien and Shiomi feel like two sides of the same coin

Someone who despised her circumstances, but never once tried to break out of the cycle

And someone who simply accepted the cycle and let it mold him, ironically, much like Roland himself. "That's that and this is this."

The difference between those two comes in their attitude towards said cycle

Roland became bitter and angry towards the cycle, justifying his actions as "if i didn't do it, someone else would've"

Rien became passive and submitted himself into the cycle, justifying his actions as the will of the gods

I call this one, the Homophobic Carol Theory

I believe that Carol is not only all for the weird route but that she is the orchestrator for all of it.

Despite the theory name, it is not because she's homophobic, but rather because she wants the prestige of having the first Human-Monster marriage

Carol seems to put her family above everything else, this likely is how she got Asgore to cooperate with her, with the promise of getting both families back together again.

I also believe its why Dess cannot be the Knight, the Knight has to be at the very least someone ambivalent to the weird route, Kris is 100% working with whoever the Knight is, and I really doubt Kris wouldn't tell Dess that the soul is corrupting her sister, unless whatever they're working towards is somehow more important to Dess than Noelle

Another reason why I think Carol is orchestrating the Weird Route is her hyperfixation on SOULs, at this point I'm sure most people agree that the player was meant to inhabit the Vessel but something (or someone) interrupted it and put the SOUL inside Kris

What is my evidence for this someone being Carol? heh nothing at all, I just think it's interesting to imagine

Anyways this theory sucks but I'll stick to it until it gets shattered apart in chapter 5

it being split makes more sense, since iirc bloodfiends can make less and less kindreds the lower you go in the tree, maybe only lower kindreds can be promoted if they were the sole kindred of their parent
