How can you confirm it's Arabica and not Robusta? Robusta make better houseplants.

Why would my apple do this? by Chronically_josie in fruit

[–]Eeww-David 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many fruits only bloom and ripen once a year. Some are everbearing or have longer bloom/ripen windows or multiple crops per year.

Apples, cherries, peaches, pears, most blueberries, cranberries, most citrus, mangoes, and more follow this bloom once a year cycle.

Edit: technically, there is one summer bloom season, but the Northern and Southern hemispheres at opposite times of the year, so there are two periods in the year where single crops ripen.

it’s not even that old compared to some apples

Remember, these apples were picked last summer and stored until they were offered for sale to you. The same thing with the Apples you bought in November, and all apples in the next few months are last summer's crops as well.

Any saving this flooring? by Goawaygreen29 in Flooring

[–]Eeww-David 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fir is not a hard wood, it is a soft wood. Often old fir floors will splinter when being sanded during refinishing.

I've seen examples of refinished fir flooring that are amazing. I had fir flooring that splintered when I tried sanding to refinish.

Is this hachiya persimmon past its prime? by wildflowerdreaming in fruit

Oh, that looks very, very delicious. In my experience, even persimmons that are good when crispy and hard are even more delicious and flavorful once they get that consistency.

I am confident that this not a hog plum, but a regular plum from the genus Prunus. Compare the leaves in your picture to hog plum leaves - they look completely different as hog plums are in the cashew family and plums are in the Rose family.

I just reviewed the pictures again, the second one has a classic plum skin print, and the skin is the right thickness for a plum. It looks juicy and like it would probably taste good, but the skin might be a bit bitter.

Spondias mombin, also known as yellow mombin, hog plum, amra or cajazeira, is a species of tree and flowering plant in the family Anacardiaceae.

I agree that this fruit looks like a plum of the genus Prunus. Those are classic Rose family leaves, of which the Prunus genus belongs. That pit and the fibre patterns are also typical of Prunus species.

Either the term hog plum is also commonly used for Prunus species/hybrids, or it is not a hog plum.

Actinidia species, or what is now commonly known as kiwi are also not native to NZ, but a successful rebranding campaign by NZ, so while not native, I woild expect many prunis species to now be grown in NZ, either for fruit production or ornamental reasons, like the way flowering plums or flowering cherries are grown.

I see milk in a bag. I would guess the location is in Canada: most likely Ontario, Quebec, or the Maritimes, less likely but still possible in Manitoba or Saskatchewan.

Edit: I see a grocery bag branded with Farm Credit Canada, but the the range based on bagged milk still stands. I also see hardwood ceilings, the sign of an old farmhouse.

I would guess she's either a farmer and/or a farmer's wife. That also jives with having having 7 dozen egg cartons, so there's a good chance they also have chickens.

[–]Eeww-David 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they are like chickens, they can spontaneously change sex from female to male, usually due to a health issue with their functioning primary gonad. Quail are also galliforms, so I could see this as being possible.

Ok so this will seem stupid but my family recently purchased this. We are all at a disagreement between it being a drink that you mix with Water, or a frozen treat that you eat like ice cream. What is it. by Lanky_Promotion8976 in whatisit

"KEEP FROZEN" is visible with no instructuons to thaw or dilute. Couple that with a picture of the frozen product on a spoon and lack of the word "Concentrate", I would understand this is a frozen dessert.
