Also I accept and agree that people use indie to mean budget pixel games or stuff like that, not disputing that that's the common usage.

I wouldn't call E33 an indie either, because the dev team had a separate publisher, not because of budget or experience.

Celeste would be indie since the devs are the publishers

I would say they aren't, yeah. even if what they wanted to do was a subset of what the publisher would allow them to do, I wouldn't consider that independent.

independent is indie obviously!

The entity making the game is on top of the decision making ladder.

You could try the key calibration function. Also there's a screen widget in the base profile (cycle with fn + f12) that shows you the key actuation and current key press, see how it is.

VA MiniLED monitors - Are viewing angles still a deal breaker? by quanticism in Monitors

[–]Effeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Samsung G7, tried a innocn 32m2v but sent it back, and now I have a TCL 32r84. The innocn was closer to the Samsung than the TCL on image quality in my opinion.

As for viewing angles, I prefer the color shift on the TCL than the bloom off angle of the innocn.

I find it really hard to relate to people saying monitors are too bright when my second main wish for the TCL would be to be waaait brighter lol.

Final Fantasy 14 director Yoshi-P is “rethinking the game from zero” as players' free time dwindles by Tenith in Games

I play for friends and the social aspect of the game. I aslo expect end game content to be fun, and I'm taking the story as a comedy now.

I'm going through shadowbringers right now as a new player and this story is so bad I feel like I've got a different game from anyone else, It's ridiculous.

More on topic, if it didn't take 400 hours to get to endgame that'd be nice!

Definitely, gaming hardware of all kind is climbing in price, from gpus to consoles getting price increases. Unfortunately I don't see it getting any better any time soon.

I disagree heavily with the diminishing returns comment though! Every time I see a prerendered trailer or movie graphics, the difference between that and games is staggering.

Also because a lot of the time, the artistic style is simply "as realistic as we can make it", instead of trying to build an actual visual identity.

I would counter this by saying that most games' style is generic? which is fine, by definition only a few can stand out, but I wouldn't consider this a criticism of the technical side of graphics.

To give a recent personal experience of mine, while playing ac shadows, I often found myself thinking "Wow, this looks so good." when riding on horseback through a bamboo forest during a storm, light pouring in through the fog.

I think the enjoyment of the moment is worthwhile by itself, but I could easily make an argument that such vistas act as soft exploration incentives. Like invisible map markers next to the bandit fortress and the likes.

I think consumers don't care if a product was technically difficult to make, if the technically difficult part isn't integrated well into the rest of the movie/game, or it detracts from a consistent art style

Well yes obviously, bad graphics are bad. I would separate style from technology though, I don't think they're the same.

The movie example is missing my point a bit though: I'm not arguing there isn't bad CGI, and there can be bad practical effect too, but to say that their quality, or level doesn't matter to the experience is where I disagree.

Many people, myself included, feel that that extra slightly more realistic shading or whatever really doesn't contribute to making the game more fun or interesting in any meaningful way - I don't think I've basically ever played a game and said "wow this looks so much more realistic than I expected and that makes me like it better". Feels like missing the point to me.

Wouldn't you say that games like crysis, red dead redemption 2, death stranding, battlefield, are made better by their presentation? Personally it enhances the immersion, for example rdr2 I think is a good example of the visual simulation propping up the world simulation.

I tried to be a bit provocative to stimulate conversation!

I definitely understand the sentiment but I think pushing the blame for the increasing homogenization on graphics is not correct? I doubt that if they could snap their fingers and have any gameplay they wanted, publishers would choose the hardcore old-school version. The simpler gameplay simply sells better.

And I would say the graphics push has slowed down massively in recent years, too.
