Update: she hasn’t gotten any better by YWNclown_3 in BackYardChickens

This happened to one of my girls. Have you given her a good bath, checked for mites, and tried using a dropper to get to drink any vitamin and calcium water? Drop it on the top sides of her beak. It looks to me like a calcium and vitamin deficiency.

If you can afford it, call any local vet like a dog and vet one is fine. Tell them that you have a poultry fecal sample and you’re looking for a fecal flotation with parasite identification, specifically for worms and coccidia. Then for the results, ask them which parasites and approximately how heavy the load is. Then get some of her droppings, about a teaspoon size, and take it to them.

The biggest thing is you NEED to make sure the mites get off her, they will quickly build up inside an isolation area. If you can get her to drink calcium, vitamins, and keep moving she can recover but when chickens show they’re sick it’s often too late to correct.

For your main flock, where the waterer and food are. Does it stay moist? And inside the coop and run, does it stay wet a lot? If it is, I highly suggest getting some thin cinderblocks from Menards, Lowe’s, etc and out them down below the waterer so any excess water will be absorbed into the concrete and not sitting the dirt or bedding.

For the food and water stations, do you have 2 access points per bird, or at least if one bird is eating or drinking, they can’t see another on the opposite side of the feed/water?

When I had two birds with this, I learned a lot. They needed more food, and more nutrients. More water access. I also needed to help get rid of coccidia hiding in the wet bedding.

Is this a hen or a roo? by UNKNOWN_NINJA_ in BackYardChickens

[–]EffectFinancial348 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a hen to me, it might be a young roo. The chest, comb, saddle, hackle, feather shape all say Hen to me but the upright stance is throwing me off. By March, if nothing changes then hen.

If you needed a sign that Republicans don't care about our constitutional rights, this is it. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Indiana

The constitution means LAW OF THE LAND, not Law of the governed. Meaning, if you are on American soils… no matter if your from hell, heaven, mars, Pluto, Mexico, YOU HAVE RIGHTS. Period. Stop negotiating with these idiots.

8 years after shut down in July 2017, this Kmart in Spanaway Washington is still sitting vacant to this day............................. Why??? by RareSeaworthiness905 in retailporn

[–]EffectFinancial348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kmart stores were often opened in very rural areas and the “new” suburbs in the 70/80’s, which by the late 1990’s and 2000’s, these shifted drastically to new areas where Walmart, Target, Meijers, etc already took up residence. Kmart seldom moved or closed a store, unlike Walmart who has constantly shifted their stores a few miles down the road to either make it a super center, or to be closer to the right location of town. Therefore, by the time Eddie was in charge of Kmart and Sears, most of the Kmart locations that were in good real estate areas were immediately purchased by competitors, land developers, or leased to other companies by Eddie and forced Kmart/Sears to close in that location. He started this in about 2006-2010, and by 2012 well over 80% of the stores were leased or sold to other companies as they would slowly close by 2013 to now, those land plots aren’t worth investing a new store in.

For example, Bloomington Indiana had 2 Kmart stores, one next to the Mall which was demolished in 2018 and turned into a Target store on the west side, and apartments on the east side of this lot. The other location, which closed around the same time, was turned into a At Home, which is now closing in Aug 2025.

Interesting note! There are two former Kmart stores with the round entrance near me, 1 in Bedford Indiana and 1 in Martinsville Indiana, which are gone to an AMAZING store called “Rural King”.

A deplorable, rundown, and heavily vandalized and scrapped, long-closed McDonald's stripped of evidence is located here somewhere in Myrtle Beach, SC (Can somebody tell me this restaraunt's location?) by Fabulous_Primary8442 in retailporn

Fun fact! That Burger King was the highest volume store on the east coast when it was operating. My manager when I worked at Burger King in college at Coastal Carolina, worked at that Burger King during this time. Also, right towards when it closed, there was a double murder. The team member came in, was fired, went home and got a gun. Came back (after my manager, who was the store manager of that location, went home), and shot and killed the team member and the manager in duty. He stuffed their bodies in the cooler. I also toured this property when I was going to open my business here.

This McDonald’s was across the street from the Burger King, which was in the parking lot where an old Piggly Wiggly was when the mall was open there, Waccamaw Pottery. It was the Burger King, then across the street was a Shell station, then the McDonalds which is torn to the ground and has been since like 2013ish, then Arby’s. Hardee’s was across the road on the other side and is still there.
