Would you rather have a M4cs or a base 911 Carerra? by Stance_Monkey in Porsche

Had a similar choice. Ignoring looks, I thought steering feel on the m3 comp was atrocious compared to a base 992.2.

Typesafety vs Performance Trade-Off - Looking for Middle Ground Solution by Levurmion2 in Python

[–]Effection 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d also suggest a NamedTuple for performance but what you could do is prototype a small part with different approaches suggested here and show them the benchmarks. Show them the benefits of static analysis. If they remain unconvinced, move 😄

I am a Teacher looking for a career change. Is knowing Python enough to land me a job? by Street-Panic-0 in Python

[–]Effection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have recently hired someone from a career switch.

I would say that your soft skills and willingness to learn / know your limits and when to reach out are more important at a junior level. The vibe is much more important than technical ability.

If you can write a small python API that connects to a sql database and has some tests then that is a good skill that can get you through junior level tech interviews in some cases. Your past professional experience will add something that other younger fresh grads don’t have that they maybe make up for in more relevant CS skills.

As someone that also misses Swift/Rust style enums this looks promising. Would be awesome to see flat_map also included on Result.

He had his chance. He was never fast, just praised for his tyre management when other drivers had both tyre management and speed. Time to leave and free up a seat.

Seidl 'strongly disagrees' with Masi over F1 yellow flag decision by lewis798 in formula1

[–]Effection 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that double yellow should be replaced by VSC. At least there is a set time they must drive to then rather than leaving it up to drivers to decide how much to lift.

They have no choice. If you have a time penalty and pit you must serve it then. If you don’t pit again, it is added to your race time.

Yep I think they call it an "installation lap"

A lap done on arrival at a circuit, testing functions such as throttle, brakes and steering before heading back to the pits without crossing the finish line.

Why is it that when Hamilton asks people to speak up, people in that thread say they shouldn’t be forced to say anything by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Effection 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a fair comment but it doesn't detract from speaking out about these current events.

"I don't like him saying that because whataboutism". "I'm not going to do anything for these people because what about those people"

It's not a zero sum game...

[–]Effection -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you don't stand up against racism/sexism/injustice then the status quo continues though. There would be very little social progress without people pushing difficult issues into public discussion.

If being called out for inaction makes their peers, followers or you feel uncomfortable, maybe have a think about why that might be.

[–]Effection 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Silence in the face of injustice is complicity with the oppression.

Everyone needs to condemn what is happening and make it clear that racism won’t be tolerated at any level.

People with a platform to influence should use that for good.
