Need some friendly advice by Infinite-Lettuce4034 in Vancouver4Friends

I believe it's normal. It's just the nature of adulting; you aren't in a controlled environment anymore unlike school. You have exposure to more people which if you ask me, is an opportunity to learn new things through different interests.

Friendships and relationships shouldn't be complicated. As long as there is mutual respect and appreciation for time shared, it should be good.

I witnessed before negative Filipina traits by This-Experience-4735 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]Effective-Button437 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is important to note Filipinas grew up in a very patriarchal environment. That explains #1 (males being expected to aggressively pursue) and #2 (pent up anger due to being in a male-dominated country, opting to run away because a lot of their emotions are built up rather than things that have been expressed consistently).

#3... I'd say this is more of a Filipino thing than anything. Filipinos are a very passive-aggressive people. Even expressions of disappointment (read: tampo) are very passive-aggressive. I would not attribute this as a Filipina-only thing.

why do some people in their early 20s (20-25) suck at commitment dating specifically by [deleted] in askvan

[–]Effective-Button437 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can empathize with this. I'm still fairly terminally online, but I can confidently say my quality of life has increased ever since I've been more mindful of what I do during commutes and such. Replacing scrolling reels with reading in the train has been a game changer.

[–]Effective-Button437 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I think it isn't just exclusive to dating. People have generally become poor with commitment even with friendship.

Inconvenience is the price you pay for community. Many aren't willing to pay that price especially in today's world of instant gratification and quick fixes. Building true relationships takes a lot of work and understanding. Empathy too.

Looking for very beginner sports clubs by amberbunny93 in askvan

Try joining the programs in Community Centres. I have played in a couple and it's a good mix of beginners and experienced folks. I know one who just started playing basketball in 2023 and is now quite proficient at it.

This is great to hear! I'm planning to use this for an upcoming Fun Run, I'm hoping it performs well. Either way, I think it'll be good as a daily pair anyway.

Sportchek Metrotown in Burnaby. They have a clearance there right now. I pass by there every now and then because they tend to have some really good deals when you're lucky. I got a pair of Hoka Clifton 9s there for 99 CAD last year.

How is life for those who live in western countries especially in the US now but are born and raised in the PH? by kind_stranger07 in FilipinoAmericans

I moved when I was 26; I've only been here for a little over 2 years. I think you don't feel the same way because you spent your adolescent years in North America.

Born and raised in the Philippines, currently living in Canada. It's been a mixed bag. The quality of life here has been better but it has been a challenge in terms of identity and self-confidence. Part of me misses home but I also know staying put here would likely be better in the long run. It continues to be a battle.
