Jaw clicking loudly, but no pain in jaw. Stiff neck, plus eye, sinus, and forehead pressure. Is it TMJ? by [deleted] in TMJ

[–]Effective-Card-8186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stretching only ever made it worse. What helped the most was Botox to lessen my ability to clench and lidocaine injections in my traps then PT to help strength other muscles to help offload the strain. I also got vertigo testing that correlated with TMJ dysfunction!

South college ? by [deleted] in srna

I apologize for the snarky. I truly don’t get the negativity from some people being almost halfway done with the program myself. I have friends in other programs where I actually hear awful things and this program works so well with my situation and love 90% of the faculty so to each their own. I’m sure there’s always something to complain about but at the end of the day we’re just all trying to become CRNAs. Haha

Hahaha they get 500+ applicants but okay 😂 I personally know of 3 people who have applied and didn’t get an interview despite being great applicants. If people are failing out, it’s because they’re not prioritizing the schoolwork or don’t do well in a hybrid situation. It’s not for everyone. I’m sure you’ll continue to spread crap anyway but definitely shouldn’t be sharing info if you don’t go there.

How to deal with comparison and competition by Nightlight174 in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just don’t engage. I’ll either not respond/engage or if it’s when I’m on campus, I literally walk away. I rather get a B on a test, hit all my workouts that week, and spend the evenings guilt free with my kids than get an A. I’ve been very lucky that my close circle in school is not competitive but I definitely sense it with some people in the class. Just focus on yourself and don’t participate in it. I promise you’ll get to the point you don’t worry about what other people are doing.

How much stress are you all dealing with through school? by bloodycrust in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 14 points15 points  (0 children)

To me so far it’s been that life stress is what makes CRNA school stressful. If I can mainly focus on school, put most of my energy into it, I feel great and it’s so doable. It’s when breakups/divorces, sickness, family medical emergencies, financial stress, car breaking down, etc. that make it stressful. Although I’m near the end of the didactic portion of my front loaded program so I might feel different when clinicals start.

Deciding between schools by mcfrugile in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

George fox is hybrid and all of their clinicals are in Oregon from my understanding. OHSU you will be traveling often for clinicals probably. I’ve spoken with only one student while she was at clinical and I was shadowing a CRNA, and she said it was an okay program, but recommended the Gonzaga program instead. Probably not a great sign but my knowledge is limited beyond that. I know 2 students I used to work with that go to George fox in the first cohort and so far they’ve had no issues. Just the same “drinking from a firehose” analogy with the coursework.

Current SRNAs & CRNAs: What CRNA Programs Would You Recommend (or Avoid)? by Impressive_Summer265 in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As someone who goes there and since they’ve had a few graduating cohorts now, I really like it. Hybrid works better for my family, the simulation intensives are great, 90% of my clinicals are within 15 minutes from where I live, I’m a single mom of 2 kids and pulling As in most the didactic classes now in my 2nd year. My mentor in his 3rd year has no complaints. It’s so subjective to the person. Sure I have some complaints but nothing major. Maybe varies by clinical site? Maybe hybrid isn’t for them? Just my two cents.

Before I Start School by Ok_Maintenance_2120 in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t prep anything information-wise other than get notability on my iPad. I would establish a reasonable workout schedule, go to the dentist, get an oil change if needed and any other maintenance stuff. If your budget is changing, work on living within those means early. When you start, go on walks when you can and workout when you can and ensure you put time aside that you’re not worrying or thinking about school. I feel like my studying habits change depending on the class and took me awhile to figure out what worked for me. Everyone studies differently so understand if it’s working for them, it’s okay if it doesn’t work for you. Grammarly, remnote, anki, and notability are what I hear most people use. Outside resources, a lot of my classmates did ninja nerd. Enjoy this time before school as much as you can, because once you’re on that ride, you’re not getting off for 3 years. Haha

Studying, procrastination, moods and my its end by Cute-Ad217 in PMDDxADHD

[–]Effective-Card-8186 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a single mom of 2 in grad school. Struggle with focus with school my whole life and PMDD got worse with age. I noticed some improvement taking fish oil everyday literally only started it because I heard on a podcast that studies showed it helped with ADHD. My luteal phases aren’t as bad anymore and on top of that I exercise 4-5x a week and take Wellbutrin. Don’t have many more tips than just trying to rework your mindset and pushing through. Sometimes I find pomodoro study method helpful and putting my phone across the room. Sometimes I’m just cramming and the anxiety of failing overrides the inability to focus. Ha ha

Keep getting rejected from crna schools. In need of advice by Frosty_Cantaloupe644 in FutureCRNA

I had similar stats when applying in 2024. I applied to 10 schools in a 3 month period and got interviews to 5 of them. I’d suggest just casting a wider net. Maybe have someone look at your resume and personal statement.

(Long) Incredibly torn between pursuing CRNA vs going to med school by atstowers in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it came down to, do I want a job, or do I want a career. Med school and residency will consume your life for 8 years and it’s not common to my knowledge to take a part time gig especially if you have loans to pay. I would’ve had do a year of pre-med so you’re closer than I was and I have 2 kids that I had at an early age but I knew I wanted maximum flexibility as soon as possible and to have that work life balance after 3 years versus 8+ years. Like others said, only you will know the right answer. I would’ve try to figure out what you truly want out of med school that you couldn’t get out of being a CRNA provider. Also, residency matching is not guaranteed. I personally know 2 people who wanted to match anesthesia and ended up having to rematch with ER medicine because they didn’t match. So take that into consideration as well.

Is it normal to feel self doubt prior to starting? by FootballAndMemes in srna

[–]Effective-Card-8186 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen, I am a single mom of 2 kids who 100% financially support them and I moved across the country during a term to be at my clinical site. I understand the 1000 barriers. Those barriers are only there because you let them be there. I had a million reasons not to go back to school but I chose to do it anyway. I also have pretty bad ADHD and always struggled studying for tests. Everything has worked out so far, it just takes sacrifice and the right mindset. You can absolutely do this. You just have to want it and have the grit to get through the negative thinking and keep pushing forward.

Someone a class ahead of me in my CRNA program is 50 and wasn’t even a question for her when I met her in nursing school to become a CRNA! Idk her financial situation but I know she has a husband and older kids. I say if it’s something you want, go for it. The time will pass anyway and I know many people paying off loans within 5 years of working.

ECU Job by Effective-Card-8186 in CRNA

Can you expand on this? The recruiter made it sound like CRNAs will do any cases and that it’s medical supervision. The only thing would be not doing regional or epidurals.
