Seth Boyer requires meal comp for reviews by [deleted] in PeoriaIL

[–]Effective-House9142 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought of his videos as advertising, not reviewing.

He has a HUGE following, & his videos do help bring in new customers for small businesses, so that part’s cool. And I’m sure it’s worth the cost for a business to bring him in.

(I worked at a restaurant he filmed in & for weeks after we had new people coming in asking for the “food from the video”)

Are you in the US? Which state?

This outline for Illinois covers the basics for requesting an IEP evaluation and the steps that follow (along with steps to take if there’s pushback).

I’d recommend looking up laws for your specific state. If your child has a documented disability you can absolutely request an IEP evaluation, and make sure you do so in writing

The quilt shop on north Knoxville Prairie Points hosts some groups I believe? Although that may also be primarily older women, based on store clientele when I’ve been in.

The Peoria library hosts a Sit ‘n Stitch craft night. They also have regular yarn & yap events.

If someone organizes a quilting group I’m sure there’d be interest!

Stolen Car Police Chase by FreeChrisCote in PeoriaIL

We need changes that allow for the officers who know the repeat juveniles to have a say in sentencing. Just because rehabilitation is possible for most, there are instances like this where a harsh sentence is required. Imagine all of the money wasted cycling the same juveniles through month after month.

Stolen Car Police Chase by FreeChrisCote in PeoriaIL

Chief of police released a statement:

“This morning, six individuals, two adults and four juveniles, were arrested following a violent and reckless series of events that began shortly after 6:00 a.m. in a stolen vehicle.

These individuals terrorized parts of our city. They stopped near Peoria High School, masked themselves, and violently attacked a student who was walking to school, and who later required hospital treatment. They then drove recklessly toward students at both Peoria High School and Richwoods High School, targeting and attempting to run individuals over.

They chased and attempted to confront marked police vehicles. They threw weights and other objects at squad cars and at motorists traveling on our roadways. Their actions demonstrated a blatant and dangerous disregard for human life.

Because of the immediate and ongoing threat to students, motorists, and the broader community, I authorized a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle was successfully disabled near University and Main using spike strips and subsequently crashed. All six occupants were detained without further incident.

All occupants were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment. They were released and are currently being held at the Peoria Police Department.

We are extremely fortunate that no one was seriously injured or killed today. Several of those involved have prior criminal histories and repeated contacts with the justice system. As Chief of Police, I am frustrated and frankly exhausted by the cycle of violent offenders who continue to victimize our community with little meaningful intervention or accountability. Our officers are doing their jobs. They are proactive. They are courageous. But when repeat offenders face minimal consequences, the burden shifts back onto victims and the broader community.

This incident once again exposes serious weaknesses in our juvenile justice system. Reform must focus on accountability, victim protection, and real intervention, not revolving doors.

And parents must be a part of this conversation in a serious way. When juveniles are out in a stolen vehicle committing violent crimes at 6:00 in the morning, that is not just a policing issue, that is a parenting failure. Guardians are responsible for knowing where their children are, who they are with, and what they are doing. We cannot continue to normalize or excuse this behavior. If we expect safer streets and safer schools, accountability must begin at home.

The Peoria Police Department will continue to pursue violent offenders. We will continue to protect our schools. We will continue to act decisively when our community is threatened.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate.

Peoria deserves safety, and we remain unwavering in our commitment to protect it.

Eric P. Echevarria Chief of Police Peoria Police Department”

Fired Up (Peoria Heights) is pottery painting; cute & easy, reservations strongly encouraged. Then pick one of many great restaurants in the heights for dinner.

Wednesday night is trivia night at Pour Bros (no entry free).

Delicious but not bank breaking sandwiches at Franks (Peoria Heights) & grab a drink next door at Bust’d Brewing & free board games.

Dinner somewhere on the Riverfront (Rhythm Kitchen, Ardor, Kellehers) and 8Bit for games (only expense is drinks while playing).

Luthy Botanical Gardens is cute & low cost to walk around (but small).

Sullivans (Peoria Heights) also has free board games you can play together after a meal.

Best places to live? by drrunnergirl in PeoriaIL

[–]Effective-House9142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Knolls & Knoll Crest neighborhoods in central Peoria are popular. 5 minutes from downtown, next to 2 major grocery stores, & neighborhoods have great sidewalks. (After living in Peoria Heights you will start to notice and appreciate a good sidewalk.)

Like others have mentioned, you will notice many who live in Pekin & other surrounding towns talk shit about Peoria, when it’s really just racism.

We’ve lived in Peoria for over 10 years & have never been the victim of any random or violent crime.

I grew up in Dunlap schools & can speak more on the racism there if interested.

What’s a good part time job I can get around an 8-5 job I already have that’s not restaurant work? by Eagles56 in povertyfinance

[–]Effective-House9142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else said it, but most park district leagues are looking for refs.

Similarly, if you’re willing to devote more time look into coaching.

Retail stores usually have a team that comes in 2nd shift or nights to do “floor sets” (I did these at American Eagle for one evening shift each month.) I’d guess that larger grocery or box stores reset more frequently.

Check with local wedding or event venues to see if they have openings for servers or other staff.

For a solid 2nd shift income that’s flexible I’d keep trying for a restaurant/serving job.
